CALIBRATION
HMT provides tank calibration service,
commonly known as “Tank Strapping”
which is the procedure for measuring
storage tanks, barges, ships, or any liquid
bulk container to provide the necessary
dimensions for capacity table calculations.
HMT services are developed under the
guidance of applicable API Standards for
tank calibration.
HMT employs a written policy and
procedure manual to ensure all tank
calibration work is performed in a
uniform manner. All tank calibration
work is conducted in strict accordance
with engineering principals as well as
the latest American Petroleum Institute
(API) Manual of Petroleum Measurements
Standard and International Organization of
Standardization (ISO) Standards.
All Tank Calibration work, calculations and
chart production is performed in-house.
Calibration charts can be customized to
meet all customers’ needs, including:
innage or ullage, feet and inches, decimal
feet, or metric units. Our internal checks
and balance procedures ensure that all
measurements and computations are in
accordance with the noted standards.
HMT’s calibration department is well
known in the industry and is managed by
a team with over 50 years combined tank
calibration experience. HMT’s calibration
technicians are trained and approved to
perform calibration in accordance with
MPMS Chapter 2.2 “TANK CALIBRATION”.

• Underground storage tanks
• Spheres
• Horizontal tanks
• Tank trailers
• Ships
• Barges
• Bottom surveys
• Liquid calibration by positive displacement meter (for tank trailer and rail road car calibration
RECOMMENDATIONSCalibration of storage tanks should be performed if the tank is newly constructed, has had structural modifications, is in conjunction with API 653 Inspections or is during minimum 15 year intervals as recommended by API. Additionally re-computations of calibration charts may be required if there have been changes in products stored that have different gravities, change in floating roof weights or leg positions or if there is a reference gauge height variation.
