Azman has been trying very hard for the past one hour to explain a mathematical problem to his classmate, Xiaoming. However, Xiaoming cannot seem to understand Azman’s explanation.

Azman feels frustrated that he cannot seem to get his point across to Xiaoming, who also does not seem to be paying much attention.

“ Why are you not listening to me? I don’t want to waste my time anymore. You do it on your own!” Azman stood up, kicked his chair over and left.

Mei Ling comes from a well-to-do family and has always got what she wants.

Her friend has just got a new pair of roller blades for her birthday. Mei Ling wants a pair just like her friend’s. However, her father refuses to get her the roller blades. He explains to her that roller blading is too dangerous a sport for a young girl like her.

“ I will get my roller blades! I hate you! If you love me, you will buy me roller blades! You’re unfair - I’m not going to talk to you ever again!” Mei Ling screams and slammed her room door shut.

Siva has not been selected for the school’s football team. He has been practising very hard and thinks however, that he has a good chance of making the team.

Siva was leaving the school after the trials when he met Jian Zhi who greeted him cheerfully with a friendly smack on the back.

“ What do you think you’re doing?! And don’t smile at me like that!” Siva snapped and stomped away, leaving Jian Zhi puzzled at what he has done wrong.

The next time you get angry and feel like lashing out, pause and think.

You will be surprised at how that pause can make you think twice about saying words that you do not mean. At any given moment, there are many emotions in our minds. In any trying situation, we can choose our reaction: to remain unaffected or to be disturbed.

By taking time off to think through our actions, we can actually prevent many unhappy encounters.

So take a deep breath and RELAX….
