As I am on sabbatical, I wanted to share with you a prayer that sounds like it could be made by a pilgrim on the way of Jesus. It was

written by Glen E. Rainsley and is found in the UCC Book of Worship)

O God of Love, we are wayfarers in the world,

prone to erratic changes of course, losing sight of our goals,

to becoming so discouraged by the journey that we will hitch a ride on anything that comes along.

Help us on our way, O God.

If we change our course, let it be not in self-interest,

but in order to share the love of Christ with another sojourner.

If we lose sight of our goals, let our quest bring us as your curious people to honest searching of our

faith.

If we become weary and discouraged and forget that You are with us,

let it lead to recognition of our need for you.

As we travel in a world that seems a trackless, hostile wilderness, we ask that Your Spirit sustain, encourage, and enable us to go on.

In the name of Jesus Christ, who walked before us. Amen

Greetings and God bless you from our Skillet group and camp ministry! I want to start this edition by saying thank you to all who have made my first year a blast! There have been some challenges, but they have certainly been outweighed by the joys experienced through our youth program. With that being said it's time to look to the future and start thinking about what we can do to make our youth programming even better! One of the strongest points of feedback

that I've received had to do with the level of communications that exist within our youth program. I completely agree that we have to be better about working together and about communicating which is why what I'm about to say next is so incredibly important. This August I will be working to put together a youth ministry team!! My goal is to get more

people involved who can bring diverse and helpful gifts to our program. If you are interested in youth ministry, have the time to give in service, or you just want to be more involved in the life of our church this is a perfect opportunity because we need your help!! Right now I am tentatively planning a meeting to be held on August 19, 20, or 21 so mark your calendars and keep an eye on the bulletin and church calendar for the finalized date. I am excited about this

new effort and I think that having a ministry team surrounding our youth will only breathe even more life into what we already do!

Psalm 145:4-5 reads, "One generation will praise your works to the next one, proclaiming your mighty acts. They will talk about the glorious splendor of your majesty; I will contemplate your wondrous works.". The point here is that our young people will learn

their faith from their community and that means all of us. I hope that you will consider attending in August and I hope that you will consider giving of your time to support our youth ministry program. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, lay person, or anyone with a gift to offer to our young people you will be perfect. One of my primary goals for youth ministry at St. John's is to leave the youth program in a place where it has the foundations to succeed for years after I have been called somewhere else. Fortunately we have time until I will be called away, but this means empowering YOU and it means all of us working together for the future. If you have any questions, or if you're interested in participating in the meeting listed above,

please contact me at [email protected]. Thank you all for the help you've provided so far, I look forward to more incredible ministry to come!

Blessings and Peace,

Jeff Kardisco, Youth Director

Music Notes... Hello, and Happy Summertime to you all! I hope you're all enjoying those lazy afternoons when it's too hot out to work. As you have probably noticed, things are a little bit different here at St. John's this summer: Pastor Mark is on Sabbatical with Pastor Gloria McPherson "subbing" for him, and we've gone to a single 9:30 a.m. "blended" service. This is a good thing - both groups of worshippers, Contemporary and Traditional, singing and praying together, and lots of music! Goodness, it will be like having a Festival Service every Sunday! You will be seeing Choir members helping out the Praise Team, some guest musicians, some new songs (and some "oldies" too). On July 20th the Summer Singers will be singing their hearts out, and I will be taking advantage of the opportunity to visit my mother in Northern California one last time. In August I'll be bringing a dear friend and co-teacher, Katherine Seager, to provide special music. Kate received her BA in voice from WVU, and her MA in voice from Bowling Green University. She is a lyric soprano with a high C that can shatter glass - really! And most of the targeted exercises I use to warm up the choir I stole from her! If you attended the Pentecost Festival Service, you heard Guz playing CLASSICAL music with me - specifically, a bit of quiet, meditative music based on the Pachelbel Canon in D. We received so many complimentary comments on that, we decided to do it again for August 3rd's Communion Service. I'm thinking Bach... Musically Yours, Lani
