HOW ARE YOU PREPARING YOUR STUDENTS FOR THE CHALLENGING DEMANDS OF THE 21ST CENTURY?

While academic achievement is critical to competence, most university students are not prepared to meet the problems and opportunities they will face in the workplace. What employers really want are career-ready employees who are not only competent in their field but who have leadership qualities such as:

Taking initiative as individuals and within teams Focusing on key priorities and finding mutually beneficial outcomes Working in creative and collaborative ways to solve problems Having high integrity and work ethic

It is imperative that universities today prepare their students to become leaders who can succeed at work—and at home and in their community. To achieve this, they need to develop leadership, character and career-readiness.

LEADER FOR LIFE™

Leader for Life is a process that enables your students to become great leaders who are ready to make lifelong contributions in all areas of life. It is based on the leadership principles found in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and other works authored by Stephen R. Covey. The 7 Habits have transformed millions of people’s lives globally and have impacted thousands of organizations by creating effective leadership, and improving performance and results. Leader for Life provides a competitive advantage for your students and a unique distinction for your university. With Leader for Life, you can create a culture of leadership where students, faculty and staff engage in the world’s best in leadership development.

KEY LEADERSHIP OUTCOMES

The following table illustrates the key leadership and career/life skills that result from the Leader for Life model, based on the 7 Habits.

ABOUT LEADERSHIP FOUNDATIONS AND THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE

The Leader for Life™ process begins with an online Leadership Foundations experience, which is hosted on an engaging, social learning website called the Stephen Covey Community. In the first lesson video, students are challenged to view leadership in a new light and learn about becoming a Leader for Life. They also complete a Mission Exercise to discover their mission and purpose in life. Upon completing the Leadership Foundations, students are ready to start an online version of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This experience is accompanied by a workbook, exercises, and is enhanced by social learning that engages students in an online forum.

WHAT YOUR STUDENTS WILL LEARN AND KEY LEADERSHIP OUTCOMES

Leadership is a choice, not a position. One of the great responsibilities of any

university is to help their students discover the leader within—to communicate to students their worth and potential so clearly that they

are inspired to see it in themselves. Stephen R. Covey

ABOUT GREAT WORK, GREAT CAREER

The Leader for Life™ process includes an online course called Great Work, Great Career, which is based on Stephen R. Covey’s book by the same name and co-authored by Jennifer Colosimo. In this course, students learn from eight powerful video lessons (approximately 3.5 hours) and self-pace their learning. Because the course is set in the Stephen Covey Community, they have the added benefit of additional resources and social learning, which is proving to be one of the most valuable and practical ways to learn and connect with others. In Great Work, Great Career, students access the following resources:

Easy-to-use lessons that share proven principles and skills for finding a great career and lasting success at work and in life. Tools to help students: (1) apply new learning in their career preparation, and (2) set and achieve specific goals in their career-search. Videos that illustrate powerful stories that bring to life the process of creating career opportunities, making their unique contribution and managing change. A forum where they can network or build a village with others for support or to exchange ideas and share tips for finding new work or advancing their career opportunities.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN AND KEY LEADERSHIP OUTCOMES

As students go into the workforce, they need to deeply understand the needs or problems of a potential employer—and show how they can be a solution to that

problem. This is a powerful way to differentiate oneself and get a great career.

Timeless Training for the Teenage Years Life for teens today is no longer a playground.

It’s a jungle out there, with tough choices, peer

pressure, personal insecurities, and anxiety about

what others think. Then consider feelings of

depression, inferiority, and jealousy of others’

successes, plus self-destructive behaviors such as

pornography, vandalism, and gangs.

Introduction to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective

Teens® workshop from FranklinCovey, based on the

best-selling book of the same name by Sean Covey

and the No. 1 best-selling business book The 7 Habits

of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, gives

young people a set of proven tools to deal successfully

with real life. The training is a means for educators,

administrators, and superintendents to help improve

student performance; reduce conflicts, disciplinary

problems, and truancy; and to enhance cooperation

and teamwork among parents, teens, and teachers.

Characteristics of Happy, Successful TeensThe 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens are

essentially seven characteristics that happy and

successful teens the world over have in common.

Habits 1, 2, and 3 deal with self-mastery, called the

“private victory.” Habits 4, 5, and 6 deal with

relationships and teamwork, or the “public victory.”

The last habit, Habit 7, is the habit of renewal. It

feeds all the other six habits.

The training provides students with a step-by-step

framework for boosting self-image, building

friendships, resisting peer pressure, achieving goals,

improving communication and relationships with

parents, and much more. The habits build upon

each other and foster behavioral change and

improvement from the inside out.
