Week 6

11th November, 2015

Dear Members of the Nambucca Heads Public School Community,

Whooping Cough Alert NSW Health has advised us to alert parents to the high number of cases of Whooping Cough in our school. Children who have been immunised are presenting with a persistent cough particularly in the evening and at night despite having been vaccinated. We have been practicing good coughing hygiene at school - covering the mouth and nose with a tissue, putting the used tissue in the bin and washing hands with soap. NSW Health advice is that any student coughing should stay at home and see their doctor. If Whooping Cough is confirmed a 5 day course of antibiotics is prescribed. Students are able to return to school after these 5 days.

Remembrance Day Ceremony Our School Captains and Prefects attended the Nambucca Heads Remembrance Day Ceremony today as our school representatives. Students at school also paused at 11am to remember those who gave their lives to keep our country safe.

Leadership Roles Year 5 students are thinking about their roles and responsibilities as our oldest students next year. One of the leadership roles available to senior students is to be a Buddy for the new kindergarten students at the beginning of the school year. Teachers have also begun speaking to Year 5 students about the expectations our school has of our School Captains and Prefects. Keeping In Touch, Cheryl Banks, Principal

Local History Study Excursion Yesterday 1-2B went for a walk around Nambucca. We have been learning how our town has changed over time. We visited some places that have historical significance and learned about some of the interesting things that happened. We saw old logs that were part of the ship construction yards, we read signs that told us about the history of the timber industry - and we even managed to squeeze in some sketching and fish feeding. Everyone had a great time - even after they had to make the final trek up Bay Street and High Street!

2016 Stage 3 Excursion Notes are going home today. Please complete expression of interest and return ASAP. Note that no money is needed this year.

Stage 3 Big Banana Outing Stage 3 are visiting the Big Banana on 14th December. Payment and permission forms need to be returned by Monday, 16th November, please.

Book Club Book Club is being sent home today. Please have your orders back to school by Thursday, 19th November.
