NEW SPORTS UNIFORMS

Summer PSSA uniforms have been updated for Softball/T-Ball, Cricket and AFL. Examples shown below.

SOFTBALL/T-BALL CRICKET AFL

DISCO

Thank you to Mrs Malec, Mrs Irvine and all the other parent helpers who made our disco last Friday night such a

success. Thank you also to Mr England, Mrs Woodbury, Mrs Kemp, Mrs Parker, Mrs Rodgers-Falk, Mrs Vatalis,

Miss Holloway and Mrs Costi for assisting on the night.

Well done to all the students who attended and danced enthusiastically.

CYBER SAFETY

Snr Constable John Bollard presented Cybersafety sessions to our Stage 2 and 3 students on Tuesday, 2 July. Snr

Constable Bollard will be presenting a session for parents at 6:30pm on Monday, 5 August (before the P&C meet-

ing). It is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to get a unique perspective on Cybersafety. The session will

not be suitable for school aged children.

BUILDING/ROADWORKS UPDATE

The bus bay and footpath works currently underway should be completed this weekend. I anticipate the path, en-

trance and bus bay will be operational to start Term 3. Please be mindful of changes to signage on Junction Rd which

may occur.

STUDENT REPORTS AND INTERVIEWS

Student reports will be sent home at the start of next term and interviews will be organised for Weeks 2 and 3.

THE PACER PROGRAM

Stage 3 (Year 5 & 6) students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital.

Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s

history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Aus-

tralians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in

meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parlia-

ment and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate was already deducted from the cost of

the camp and was reimbursed to the school upon completion of the excursion.

ATSI NETWORK MEETING

On Wednesday, 26 June the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Team (ATSI), which is made up by the following

teachers: Mrs Vatalis, Ms Boulton, Mrs Gairns, Miss Khu, Miss Shelton, Mrs Kemp and Mrs Johncey held its first

ATSI Parent and Student Network meeting. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet our ATSI families and for the stu-

dents to voice their opinions regarding future directions for Schofields Public School and the ATSI community. We

look forward to many more opportunities to collaborate with our families and students.

NAIDOC DAY

Schofields Public School will be celebrating NAIDOC Day in Week 1 next Term on Wednesday, 24 July. We will

hold an assembly in the morning starting at 9:30am. We would like to invite all our SPS families to attend the assem-

bly and organised activities, which will include an opportunity to have a picnic at recess (approx. 11am) with your

family on the day. Please remember to bring your food and a picnic blanket with you on the day. The days activities

will conclude at approximately 1:10pm. The ATSI Team have been working extremely hard to organise this event

for our school community. We hope to see you all on Wednesday, 24 July.

STAGE 1 - TARONGA ZOO EXCURSION

On Wednesday, 26 June, over 200 lucky Stage One students made the journey to Taronga Zoo. Although it rained

when we first arrived, the sun came out and we had a fabulous day exploring and seeing the different animals on ex-

hibit. We all participated in a zoo educational talk where we got to touch snakes, lizards and even a ringtail possum.

Stage One students learnt how to create habitats for wildlife in their backyards and how to protect our native animals.

At the end of the day all of Stage One were lining up to head home on the buses, when a gentleman visiting the zoo with his young family came over to tell us that Schofields Public School was the best school that they had come across that day. This comment ended an already fabulous day with a bang. Congratulations Stage One for represent-ing the school with pride.
