Dear Parishioners, As Catholics, we are ambassadors for life, promoting what recent Popes have called a culture of life, as opposed to a culture of death so present in the world today. January 22nd is marked as a day of prayer for the legal protection of unborn children. It is a day of awareness, not only for all who suffer from participation in abortion, but also awareness of God’s loving forgiveness and the support mothers need before and after birth. Roe v. Wade is in the news again, with the recent promotion of the expansion of abortion ―rights‖. The Pro-Life Committee of Catholic U.S. bishops is sponsoring a na-tionwide novena, called 9 Days for Life. It begins on Monday, January 14th. You can participate by downloading a free mobile app (with daily reminders), or signing up for daily email or text messages. You can also print a version by visiting the website. The website is www.9daysforlife.com Another possibility is participating in the March for Life in Washington D.C. on January 18th. The text box below gives the details of local transportation. En este domingo celebramos la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor. Es oportuno recordar las exigencias de nuestro propio bautismo, a la luz del Bautismo de Cristo, que fue manifestación de su filiación divina, comienzo de su misión pública, proclamación de una nueva fidelidad, un nuevo amor y una nueva ley. Los bautizados debemos manifestar en toda circunstancia que somos hijos de Dios, ungidos con un espíritu nuevo, que vence toda cobardía y egoísmo. Porque estamos bautizados, tenemos que vencer el miedo a profesar una auténtica conciencia bautismal en todas las circunstancias básicas y a recobrar actitudes fundamentales que han podido abandonarse a lo largo del camino de la vida. Tareas específicas del bautizado son: vivir las obras de la luz en medio de las tinieblas, luchar contra las estructuras de la injus-ticia, enfrentarse al pecado del mundo, buscar afanosamente la fraternidad universal y construir el futuro de una historia nueva.

2. After 25 years of ministry at the Apostolic Nunciature (Vatican Embassy) in Washington, DC, Msgr. Maks will make the move back to our diocese in a month or so, reside at Cathedral Prep in Elmhurst, and continue to of-fer us his services. His weekend assistance has been a great blessing to our parish.

3. Confirmation will be celebrated here, together with Queen of Angels parish, on Friday, May 17th, at 5:00 pm. Bishop Ray-mond Chappetto will officiate.

4. This coming Wednesday, Janu-ary 16th, the 9 am liturgy will be a Communion Service, not a Mass.

5. Next Saturday’s (Jan. 19th) Confession period (4:00-4:45 pm) is suspended.
