We seek to inspire the larger Catholic community to a more committed faith life and to heed Christ’s call of sharing time, talent and treasure for the needs of others.

FROM THE PASTOR… Dear Parishioners,
Our Korean parishioners celebrate the Lunar (Asian) New Year this Sunday, with a special event in Brennan Hall to honor their ancestors—an intriguing connection with the marking of a new beginning. Our wish is that they spread joy and love and laughter in the upcoming months, and re-ceive the same blessings in return!
A word of welcome to Jacob Lopez, who just join our loyal band of Altar Servers at St. Raph-ael’s. Since Jacob is also in the Family Mass Choir, I wonder where he will be minister-ing” (sanctuary or choir area) on that monthly Sunday? Any girl or boy who has already received First Communion and is at least in the Third Grade is invited, with parental permission, to become a Server here. Let me know if interested.
Next Sunday is World Marriage Sunday. At the English and Spanish Masses that weekend, we encourage all married couples to renew their wedding vows during Mass. Since the 11 am and 12:30 Masses that Sunday are Family Masses, it will be a good for the children present to witness this rededication of commitment.
This coming Thursday morning, we welcome to St. Raphael’s a few grades from St. Stanis-laus Kostka Catholic Academy in Greenpoint, which is our affiliated Catholic School. This class trip will have the children get a tour of our church, meet the Queens Center for Progress volunteers who help us out on Thursdays, see our Food Pantry in operation, and be treated to lunch before being bussed back to their school just over the Greenpoint Avenue Bridge.
Since this seems to be the time of the year when many parents plan what school their children will attend after the summer, see the full page promo for St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy in this bulletin, and consider the encouraging facts about Catholic Schools detailed else-where in this bulletin.
Finally, since this Sunday is the traditional date for the feast of St. Blase, we will offer the individual Blessing of Throats at the end of this weekend’s English and Spanish Masses. -Father Jerry Jecewiz

Maks will make the move back to our diocese in a month or so, reside at Cathedral Prep in Elmhurst, and continue to offer us his services. His weekend assistance has been a great blessing to our parish.
2. Confirmation will be celebrated here, together with Queen of Angels parish, on Friday, May 17th, at 5:00 pm. Bishop Raymond Chappetto will officiate. Confirmation meeting (parents & candidates) Wed., Feb. 6, at 7:30 pm, in Brennan Hall.
3. The Vino Nuevo Apostolate of our Hispanic community has just formed a Ministry of Consolation for persons who have lost loved ones. This ministry extends to the Latino tradition of the novenario (9-day novena), rosaries and/or wake services, and anniversary-of-death (or birthday) remembrances for 3 years following the loss. In the Hispanic tradition, all ultimately serves the lifting or raising of the Holy Cross to enable those in grief to move forward in faith and trust. If you would like to contact this ministry, speak with one of our Pas-toral Ministers: Paul Casiano, Maria Casiano or Bogar Casiano. As always, they are at your service.
4. Confirmation candidates are reminded about the upcoming Confirma-tion meeting (parent plus candidate) on Wednesday, Feb. 6th, 7:30 pm, in Michael Brennan Hall. The Enrollment Ceremony will follow at the Family Mass on Sunday, February 10th, at 11 am.
