Throughout the year and beyond, we plan to have new images of Mary on the front cover. Our next image will be Our Lady of Fatima, as this year is the 100th anniversary of the children of Fatima; Jacinta, Francisco, and Lucia having received apparitions from Mary. There will be several gatherings planned in the coming months that center on this particular apparition, which invites us to pray, and especially her prayer of the Rosary. May we grow in our devotion to the Blessed Mother. You will be receiving shortly in the mail a schedule of all the liturgies that will take place during Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday and ending with Easter Sunday. The Mass times on those two Sundays will be 7:15, 9:00, 10:45, and 12:30. It is getting closer to that time of moving into the “Pastor’s Pad.” There are a few more details that need to be completed, and also finding the time to move my belongings over. The best time to consider doing this would be over the Easter Vacation. I am very grateful to all who have helped to makeover the vacant third floor of the parish office into an alive parish space that will be my living quarters, as well as a place to gather for meetings. – Fr. THE PRINCIPAL’S POST

As Holy Week draws nearer, the students at St. Mary School are continuing their observances with service, sacrifice and penance. The King Arthur Flour Company treated the older grades to a bread-making assembly and each was given four pounds of flour, yeast and the tools to make bread. Students made bread with their families, one for them and one to share with the community. They sold their loaves at the Fish Fry on Friday nights to help support the Grace Scholarship Fund. Those loaves not purchased were donated to the Faith Mission in Columbus. A Penance Service was held for grades three through eight. Students will wrap up their Lenten service by doing chores for change and donating that to the scholarship fund as well. On our last day of school before spring break we will Walk for Catholic Education.

All students have participated in Adoration during Lent. We are hoping to extend this tradition of spending quiet time with Christ into the Ordinary Time.

Many thanks to Lenore Taylor and Reilly Polletta for guiding the students in the school’s production of the Living Stations of the Cross. It is always a highlight of the Lenten season. Our young actors are so moving in their parts! Thank you for sharing the story of the Passion with us all!

May your Lenten journey continue to bring you closer to Christ.

Yours in Christ,Gina Stull, PrincipalSt. Mary School and Preschool

Prayer Life & Reflection

April 2, 2017 – Fifth Sunday of LentEz 37:12-14; Ps 130:1-8; Rom 8:8-11; Jn 11:1-45

Easter is two weeks away. There is an understandable and logical reason that we hear the Gospel Reading from St. John about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead on this Fifth Sunday of Lent. Jesus’ Resurrection is ever nearer for us. His miracle of raising Lazarus is the last recorded by John, but its timing is exactly what the Lord wished it to be.

In the Gospel, Jesus makes it all clear to us. The Lord says, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” That understanding and acceptance and rejoicing at the Resurrection is what Lent has been about and what our preparations in these final days of Lent should be about as well.

Phillips Brooks is probably best known as the author/composer of one of the most endearing Christmas Carols “O Little Town of Bethlehem.” However, Brooks also understood what faith is all about. He said, “Let every man and woman count himself and herself immortal. Let them catch the revelation of Jesus in His resurrection. Let each say not merely, ‘Christ is risen,’ but also ‘I shall rise’.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1002) says, “Christ will raise us up ‘on the last day’; but it is also true that, in a certain way, we have already risen with Christ. For, by virtue of the Holy Spirit, Christian life is already now on earth in participation in the death and Resurrection of Christ.” It is this truth, this hope, that we are to embrace as Easter approaches. (catholicsteward.com)

Spend Time with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration

Monday evening after the 5:30 p.m. Mass concluding with Benediction at 11:00 p.m.

This week’s Gospel shows us Jesus wants us to let Him into all those places that have been rendered dead by sin. He wants to weep with us in His humanity, but also to reveal His divinity and bring about a total healing. (FORMED.org/Opening The Word)
