A Letter from the Pastor, Fr. Tien-Tri Nguyen Dear parishioners,
May God’s abundant blessing be upon you and your family.
With great joy I want to introduce to you our first quarterly
newsletter. Many thanks to Mary for putting it together. The
purpose of this newsletter is to share with you more and
deeper information about our parish, not just an extended
Sunday bulletin. Hopefully it will be an instrument to help you
to know what is going on in our parish; our ministry, our pro-
jects present, past and future.
We want introduce and explain about different ministries. We
also want to let you know our financial situation; our dona-
tion and our expenses; our loan; our ACA and others. We
hope to make it interesting and informative. Please take
some time to read it and share it with others. If you have any
questions, please call the parish office.

The Parish Office receives hundreds
of phone calls every week, and doz-
ens of visits. The vast majority of
questions are about Sacraments.
Here is a quick guide that answers
some of the most frequently asked
questions.
How do I baptize my child? First—call the Parish Office (505-898
-0826) and make an appointment
with Deacon Bob Aragon or Deacon
Sal Mercado. They will guide you on
how to choose Godparents and will
set the date for the baptism. Please
bring a copy of your child’s birth
certificate to the meeting. Parents
and Godparents are required to
take a baptism preparation class
before the baptism. This class can
be taken before or after the meet-
ing with the deacon, and can be
taken at St. Jude or another parish.
At St. Jude, the baptism class is held
the 3rd Tuesday of every month at
7:00 PM, starting in the Church.
Classes in both English and Spanish
are offered. There is no need to reg-
ister and the class is free. It lasts
about an hour. A certificate of com-
pletion will be given after the class.
How do I get married in the Church? Call the office to make an appoint-
ment with the Pastor, Fr. Tri. Ideally
this should take place at least 6
months before the date of the wed-
ding. Dates fill up quickly at St. Jude!
Fr. Tri will guide the engaged couple
and communicate with them what
he will be needing for the marriage.
Couples are also asked to take a
marriage preparation class. There
are many classes offered through-
out the Archdiocese. St. Jude offers
Pre Cana classes to fill this require-
ment. Please see page #5 for details
on Pre Cana classes.
A loved one has passed, how do I schedule a funeral? It is recommended that families first
meet with a funeral home to start
preparations for the funeral. The
Parish Office will work with the fu-
neral director to set a time and date
for the funeral and rosary. The St.
Jude Bereavement Ministry will later
schedule a time convenient for the
family to meet and go over arrange-
ments. For more information on
the Bereavement Ministry, please
see page #6.
2
Deacon Bob and Deacon Sal
welcome questions regarding Baptisms.
Please call the Parish Office to schedule an
appointment during the week to meet with
one of them. They meet with families
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
between 10am and 6pm.

Pre Cana Classes
The Archdiocese of Santa Fe
requires that any couple
preparing for marriage fulfill
a marriage preparation
course prior to their wed-
ding day. Pre Cana is one of
the courses that a couple
may choose from.
About Pre Cana St. Jude Parish has been
hosting Pre Cana (marriage
preparation) for the Archdio-
cese of Santa Fe for several
years. Classes are held 4-5
times per year. An average
of 30 couples attend every
class. The classes are held
on weekday evenings except
for the last day which starts
with Mass on Saturday fol-
lowed by dinner at the par-
ish hall and then the final
class. The goal of the class is
to help couples prepare for
a Christ centered marriage
in the Catholic Church.
Please look for upcoming
classes and register online

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4 The Bereavement Ministry of St. Jude is dedicated to assist those who are in
need of consolation and direction as they prepare for the funeral Mass and
Rosary of their loved one. The Bereavement Ministers
meet with the family and through gentle instruction
help plan all the necessary details for the funeral
service, rosary and reception. The family fre-
quently needs the advice and counsel of the
Bereavement Minister because of the intense
emotion of loss. A helping hand at this time
is always appreciated.

It is a great honor to announce that Ms.
Morgan Bass has been awarded the
2018 Archdiocese of Santa Fe St. Francis
of Assisi Award for St. Jude Thaddeus
Parish. This award is given to one lay
member of every Catholic parish that is
actively involved in parish life.
Ms. Bass was an active member of the
St. Jude Youth Group for her four years
of high school, and upon graduation she
became a youth leader. She attended
Steubenville of the West with the St. Jude
Youth Group and also attended World
Youth Day in Krakow, Poland in 2016.
Ms. Bass then chose
to return to Poland in
the summer of 2018
as a young adult to
serve our Lord and
His people on a mis-
sion trip with other
young adults through
the Emmaus Journey
(A Ministry of
Catholic Evan-
gelization & Disci-
pleship).
Ms. Bass has also been the Choir Director
for the 5pm Youth Mass for many years,
and has also shared her gift of music as a
volunteer with the St. Jude Homeschool Co
-Op. She was also a very dedicated altar
server for many years. Ms. Bass has also
been a teacher for our Religious Education
program for many years, teaching our
Catholic traditions, and Catholic faith to
our children here at St. Jude.
This beautiful, young lady has touched
the lives of many of our children, youth,
and adults alike by living a life of service
for our Lord not only at St. Jude but
around the world.
Congratulations Ms. Morgan Bass on
receiving the 2018 St. Francis Award!

You might ask yourself, what are
Matachines? Matachines are a group of
people who express their gratitude to
God through a symbolic dance. The
dance has been a tradition dating back to
Spanish colonial times. Back then the in-
digenous tribes such as the Aztec, Mayas,
Incas etc., in Mexico used to conduct sac-
rifices, dances and different rituals to
worship their pagan gods. Tradition says
that after the appearance Our Lady of
Guadalupe on December 9, 1531 some of
those tribes dropped their old beliefs and
converted. The indigenous continue to
dance as a form of respect and reverence
to our lady, but also offered their dance
as a symbol of prayer. The Matachines
are a representation of that same tradi-
tion, carried for many years.
The St. Jude Thaddeus Matachines were
formed in our parish three weeks before
May 13, 2017, where they celebrated the
100th year of the appearance of Our
Lady of Fatima. With only three weeks to
prepare the Matachines managed to ac-
company the community in the proces-
sion ending with the mass. They are now
composed of about 20 members and are
now part of all the processions and big
celebrations at our parish.
Tito and Carmen Ortiz are in charge of
the Matachines group at St. Jude Thad-
deus church. The Matachines are a grow-
ing ministry and practice twice a week to
improve the routine. The Matachines
would like to extend a warm invitation to
anyone who would like to join their minis-
try by calling Tito at (915)875-7892.

A Place to Belong
Hi, I’m Hailea Montoya,
I joined the St. Jude Youth Group as
an eighth grader. Now, as a senior in
High School looking back I never re-
alized how blessed I have been; God
has placed an amazing community in
my life, with so many amazing
friends, along with amazing opportu-
nities to follow Him.
Growing up I never really felt that I
belonged anywhere. So I looked for
places to belong; and my parents,
like most parents, wanted me to be
in a sport, club, or something of that
sort. So I joined different things like:
soccer, photography, Karate, guitar,
gymnastics, track, and even sign lan-
guage at one point. I never felt com-
plete happiness or total fulfillment in
any of these things. If anything I felt
out of place, unaccepted, and some-
times judged.
One day I was in my catechism class
and Mrs. Lori Ortiz-Gallegos (our
rock star youth leader) told us about
youth group. I didn't think much of it,
but my friend suggested that we
should check it out. So that Friday
my friend and I went to youth group,
and I immediately knew where I be-
longed.
At youth group we have a lot of fun;
we play games, go on trips, make
friends, learn about our Catholic
faith, and most importantly grow
closer to God in all of it. I’m happy
that I found the youth
group when I did or I
imagine that I would be
lost and still be looking
for somewhere to be-
long.
The St. Jude Youth
Group has become a
big part of my life. I
have been able to
make lifelong friends
and memories, and put
my focus more on God
and less on the world.
If you are looking for
somewhere to belong I
hope that you belong
to God first, then to the
Saint Jude Youth
Group.
