    During Lent, Knights are encouraged to share what their councils are doing in response to Pope Francis’ callto grow in faith by performing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. With so many Knights of Columbus pro-grams and initiatives being expressions of the works of mercy — including 40 Cans for Lent , Coats for Kids , andFood for Families — Knights should lead their parishes in Lenten observances during the Holy Year of Mercy.

    Knights can start small, by simply hanging the printable Works of Mercy poster in their homes, councilmeeting spaces, and parishes, to be reminded daily to perform the works of mercy.

    Post your pictures and stories to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with the hashtag #KnightsKnowMercy, and you might be featured on one of the Supreme Council’s official social media accounts!

    PRAYER BEFORE A CRUCIFIXThe Friday Indulgence

    A plenary indulgence is gained every Friday in Lent by say-ing the following prayer before a Crucifix after receiving HolyCommunion. The usual requirements for a plenary indulgencealso apply.

    On any Friday during Lent a plenary indulgence is granted theChristian faithful who, after Communion, devoutly recite theabove prayer before an image of Jesus Christ crucified. On otherdays of the year the indulgence is a partial one.

    Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus,I cast myself upon my knees in Your sight,

    and with the most fervent desire of my soul I pray and beseech Youthat You would impress upon my heart lively sentiments of Faith,Hope, and Charity, with true repentance for my sins, and a firm

    purpose of amendment, while with deep affection and grief of soul Iponder within myself and mentally contemplate Your five most

    precious Wounds; having before my eyes the words which David inprophecy spoke concerning Yourself,

    O good Jesus:“They have pierced my hands and feet;

    they have numbered all my bones.”

    District Deputy’s Message

    Brothers and Sisters,

    Can it be March already? Before we know it St. Patrick’s Day will be here, thenPalm Sunday, and Easter. It all goes by so fast. On March 5th we will be holdingthe Suffolk County Free Throw in Deer Park.

    And on March 8th our District will be having a Second Degree at St. Jude Council in Rocky Point. The Degree will beginat 8:00 pm. All Brothers who are going to be taking this Degree must be there by 7:15. As the District Deputy, one of mymost cherished and important task is being entrusted with the Exemplification of the Second Degree. This is a responsibil-ity that I do not take lightly. We are fortunate to have the best Second Degree Team in all of Suffolk County here in our Dis-trict, from St. Jude. Keeping this in mind, and with respect for the Exemplification of the Second Degree, the Degree Teamand myself, I must insist that ALL who attend this Degree, both those taking and observing the Degree, wear a Jacket andtie (yes, pants and shirts and shoes too, for you wise guys out there, I know who you are!).

    I hope that you have had the opportunity to take the time to appreciate this Lenten season. I know that many peoplethink that Christmas is the most important day in the Catholic liturgical calendar, but from the earliest days of the Church,Easter has been considered the central Christian feast. As Saint Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:14, "If Christ has not beenraised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain." Without Easter—without the Resurrection of Christ—therewould be no Christian Faith. Through his death, Christ saved mankind from bondage to sin, and He destroyed the hold thatdeath has on all of us; but it is His Resurrection that gives us the promise of new life, both in this world and the next. Thatnew life begins on Easter Sunday. In the Our Father, we pray that "Thy Kingdom come, on earth as it is in Heaven." AndChrist told His disciples that some of them would not die until they saw the Kingdom of God "coming in power" (Mark 9:1).

    The early Christian Fathers saw Easter as the fulfillment of that promise. With the resurrection of Christ, God's Kingdom isestablished on earth, in the form of the Church.

    From my wife Jessica and myself, we wish a Happy and blessed Easter to you All!

    For He gave to all the greatest gift the world has ever known. May you find the beauty of Easter as this Holy Season nears.May your heart be full of laughter, your eyes be free from tears. May the love you give to others return to you ten - times - ten.And may our Heavenly father bless you over and over again!
