O ffice hours: Monday 1:30 to 5pm

Tuesday-Friday 9am to 12:30pm & 1:30 to 5pm

P ARISH REGISTRATION: We give a heartfelt welcome to all new parishioners. Registration forms

are available in the front vestibule and side entrances of the church and at the parish office during regular office hours In order that our priests better serve you, especially at the time of baptism, marriage, or a funeral, it is most helpful if you are registered and participating in our parish community.

B APTISM: If you are seeking baptism for your infant to 5 year old, we ask that at least one parent be

registered at St. Clare for six months prior to baptism. The parents are asked to attend a pre-baptism class. Please call the parish office to register for baptism and pre-baptism classes. BAUTIZOS: Pláticas son los dos últimos Miércoles del mes. Es necesario asistir a dos pláticas. No niños. Para información llama a Lupita & Luis Caceres (661) 360-8537.

H OSPITAL/HOME, HOLY COMMUNION, AND SICK VISITS: For Holy Communion, please contact the

parish office during office hours. A Priest or Eucharistic Minister will visit you and attend to your needs. In case of hospitalization, please inform the admissions office that you are Catholic, so that they will be able to notify us. In case of an emergency or death in the family, a priest can be reached 24 hours a day. Call the parish office number anytime for an emergency pager number.

M ARRIAGE: The bride and/or groom must be registered and actively participating in the parish

for at least three months. Then, a six-month preparation program is required. Please call the office for further information.

R ELIGIOUS EDUCATION: We offer religious education classes for children beginning with the

first grade and running through high school. For more information, contact the office of Religious Education at 252-6950.

Our parish has become so large, the only way we have of verifying Mass attendance is by use of Sunday envelopes. (This is significant when requiring services from the church i.e., baptism or marriage.)

Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time SAINT CLARE PARISH Page 9

What does it mean to be pro-life? October is Respect Life month. For Catholics, treating life and each other

with respect is how we live. That means we protect the life of the innocent child, the life of the elderly and sick and the life of a murderer.

It means that we see the face of God in each one of these people. We are not just opposed to ending life prematurely, we are called to

support programs which help those who are marginalized. Being pro-life means we help those who have less than we do,

it means we uphold the dignity of all people.

Here are some ways you, as a parish member of St. Clare, have answered your call to support life and some ways you can continue to answer that call:.

We support Family Promise through direct aid, advertisement and participation of awareness programs like Box City, A Bridge to Home (formerly known as the SCV Homeless Shelter) and our local food pantry. Each year Nancy Fishwick and our Youth Ministry Team sponsors a booth at the Relay for Life to support the American Cancer Society; our Detention Ministry Team visits girls in our local detention camps; we advertise and support our local SCV Pregnancy Center and we help individuals with direct aid.

Participate in SCV Pregnancy Center’s Walk for Life, October 20th. For more information or to register, contact the SCV Pregnancy Center @255-0084 or go to: LIFESUPPORTER.ORG

These are all God’s children...

The following information comes to you from the Office of Justice for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles:

The Office of Justice reminds all those who are eligible to vote that voting in elections, along with being the premier right of the citizen, is also part of one’s active practice of Catholicism, and an embodiment of Catholic Social Teaching. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 22nd. People can register online at: https://rtv.sos.ca.gov/elections/register-to-vote

The deadline for registering for early voting (voting by mail) is also Monday, October 22nd.

The bishops of this diocese and all the dioceses of California support the passage of proposition 34 (replacing the death penalty with life in prison without the possibility of parole) and the passage of Proposition 35 (increasing penalties on those engaged in human trafficking). We invite people to prayerfully consider supporting these two propositions by voting “yes” on them.

For more information about all 11 propositions on the California ballot, please access the website of the California Catholic Conference at: http://www.cacatholic.org
