PARISH STAFF RETREAT DAY will be this coming Wednesday, June 27. Both the School and Parish Offic-

es will be closed that day. Please remember us in prayer, and we pray for you! Thank you.

ALICE ABENDROTH IS RETIRING And you thought Alice already retired! Well, that’s true, from her secre-tarial position at the parish – years ago! Now, she is retiring from her 25+ years of ministry at the nursing homes. Yes, for 25+ years she has been faithfully set-ting up for monthly Masses at Faith Countryside and Highland Health Care. She helped to gather the resi-dents for Mass each month, at each place, and prayed the rosary with them after Mass. Alice will still be in-volved in civic work and will continue to make her deli-cious potato salad! We thank you Alice for your hard work and sharing the love of Jesus with so many nurs-ing home residents throughout the years. Your ministry and presence will be missed!!!

MEALS FOR PRIESTS Parishioners have been so generous in preparing meals, soups, etc., for Mi-chael Meinhart, myself and other priests over the last three years. I express my thanks for your generosity!

With Fr. Adam coming onboard, he and I have agreed it would be great to gather the area priests to have prayer and dinner once a week to share in our priestly ministry together. Since we do not have a cook at the rectory, we thought pa-rishioners might be interested in providing Wednesday evening meals. We will gather for prayer at 4:30pm and eat at 5:00pm. We will invite the following priests to RSVP each week:

Msgr. Dave Peters, Pastor Emeritus Msgr. Jim Blazine, Retired - Belleville Fr. Paul Bonk, Pierron, Pocahontas, Grantfork Fr. Paul Habing, Marine, Spanish Ministry Fr. Kevin Laughery, Troy, St. Jacob Fr. Alan Hunter, Greenville

They will join Fr. Adam, and myself, as well as seminari-an Michael Meinhart, during the summer.

We are hoping for simple meals that do not require a lot of time to prepare and with no frills. If you are interested in providing a meal on a Wednesday, please go to the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/

go/10c0548aca629a2fe3-wednesday or call the parish of-

fice to sign-up as our Master Chef. This link was also sent on Friday morning to all parishioners who have an email listed at the parish office.

If you would then call the parish office, a day or two before your date to prepare the meal, to find out how many priests will be attending the dinner, that would be great. Thanks so much!

MASS SCHEDULE CHANGES With the arrival of Fr. Adam, we will be add-ing a couple of Masses during the week. The weekend and weekday Mass schedule will remain unchanged, however, we will be adding two weekday Masses. They are:

Wednesday at 6:30pm in the Church Friday at 7:00am in the Church

I will continue to take Mondays off and Fr. Adam’s day off will be on Tuesday. Therefore, Fr. Adam will always have the Monday morning 7:00am Mass and I will always have the Tuesday morning 7:00am Mass. We will rotate our schedules for all other weekday and weekend Masses. Nursing Home Masses will now be on Thursdays.

Having two priests serving at St. Paul and until that is no longer the case, will allow us to have funerals on Mon-days, once again.

PARISH AND SCHOOL OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED ON JULY 4TH.

In the love of Christ,

Fr. Pat

Reflections on Sunday, June 24:

DO NOT BE AFRAID

John came to testify to the light and pre-pare an upright people for the Lord. The Church has celebrated feasts in honor of John the Baptist since the fourth century. In the early Church, John was held in high es-teem along with the apostles and St. Ste-phen. John, filled with the Holy Spirit in the womb of his mother Elizabeth, brings the children of Israel to the Lord their God.

“John baptized Christ, the giver of baptism, in the waters made holy by the one who was baptized” (Preface 61, Roman Missal). Like the angel in the Gospel, we can say “Do not be afraid,” for John is born anew to herald the message of repentance and conversion that leads us

toward our salvation.

GLORY OF GOD

John, the dream of midsummer day, is one of three “births into this world” cele-brated by the Church. Jesus’, at midwinter and Mary’s, in September, are the other two we celebrate. John, called the “greatest man born of woman” by Jesus himself, is the last of the dreams and promises that lead to the incarnation. Born in the high light of the Scripture, he points out the Savior to us and the world: “Behold the Lamb of God!” Once his job is well done, his light fades into the light of

Christ. Look to the bright glory of God!

Baptism of St. John the Baptist, June 24

Afraid and amazed. The gospels from both the vigil and

the day tell us not to fear. An unnamed angel stands

near the father of John the Baptist saying, “Do not be

afraid.” At his somewhat surprising birth and naming,

“all were amazed.” Why? Because the hand of God is at

work!

¨ How will I lean into God’s hand this week?

¨ How will I trust in God’s good mercy toward me?

¨ Let me sing Psalm 139 (or “O God, You Search Me”

by Bernadette Farrell) all week.

Our office will be closed on Fridays at noon during the sum-mer months. Thank you.
