SOUTH BUNBURY
PRIMARY SCHOOL AN INDEPENDENT PUBLIC SCHOOL
BUSINESS PLAN 2013 -2015
Welcome to South Bunbury Primary School
The South Bunbury Primary School has been a feature of the Education of Bunbury students since September
1913, when the original school building was completed. The current school buildings were opened on 7th
September 1948.
South Bunbury Primary School is highly regarded within the City of Bunbury due to the good behaviour and
academic standing of our students. Our staff are long serving and committed to the education of all of our
students. The Administration Team has extensive, collective experience, working together to ensure both
students and staff receive the most out of their South Bunbury experiences.
The school’s main focus is on developing literacy and numeracy excellence in all students. We have a strong
emphasis on using co-operative learning strategies to ensure all students are engaged in and accountable for
their learning, whilst constantly understanding and improving our use of technology to meet our goals.
South Bunbury Primary School is committed to ensuring all students maximise their opportunities to access the
Australian curriculum, which will support their unique learning requirements, ensuring they reach their full
potential.
We are open minded and forward thinking, with a thirst for continuous improvement of educational outcomes
for our students.
In 2013 South Bunbury Primary School became an Independent Public School (IPS). An Independent Public
School is a public school where the principal has been given increased flexibility and responsibility to make local
decisions across a range of school operations.
As an IPS:-
o we have more freedom to make decisions about important matters that impact students’
education such as the student support, staff recruitment, financial management, governance and
accountability;
o we can cater to the specific needs of our students by determining the curriculum and specialist
teachers required that best support them;
o we may work in clusters, which enables us to effectively combine ideas and resources to create
even greater flexibility and opportunities for our school.
More information about this initiative can be obtained from www.det.wa.edu.au
Our commitment to delivering specialist subjects
South Bunbury Primary School acknowledges the important role that specialist subjects play in preparing
students to participate effectively as global citizens in the 21st Century. Specialist subjects have the capacity to
engage, inspire and enrich all students, exciting the imagination and encouraging them to reach their creative,
expressive, physical and cultural potential.
Visual Art Visual Arts includes the fields of art, craft and design. Learning in and through these fields, our students create visual representations that communicate, challenge and express their own and others’ ideas as artist and audience. They develop perceptual
and conceptual understanding, critical reasoning and practical skills through exploring and expanding their understanding of their world, and other worlds.
L.O.T.E The ties between Australia and Indonesia continue to develop, with an increasing
number of Australians (almost one million in 2012) travelling to Indonesia, for
leisure, business and education purposes; numbers of Indonesians visiting Australia
are also increasing. Indonesia currently has Australia’s largest overseas diplomatic
presence, and Australia is the only country outside of Indonesia to host two specialist
Indonesian language and cultural centres, known as Balai Bahasa; these provide
Indonesian language study for the Australian community.
Health & Physical Education Integral to Health and Physical Education is the acquisition of movement skills,
concepts and strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively
participate in a range of physical activities. As a foundation for lifelong physical
activity participation and enhanced performance, students develop proficiency in
movement skills, physical activities and movement concepts and acquire an
understanding of the science behind how the body moves.
Music Music has the capacity to engage, inspire and enrich all students, exciting the imagination and encouraging students to reach their creative and expressive
potential. Skills and techniques developed through participation in music learning allow students to manipulate, express and share sound as listeners, composers and
performers. Music learning has a significant impact on the cognitive, affective, motor, social and personal competencies of students.
PEAC Program The Primary Extension and Challenge program (PEAC) provides opportunities for
talented students in
Years 5 & 6 to:- o socially interact with other gifted and talented children
o enjoy an intellectually rigorous and challenging program
o to interact with practising experts o develop higher order process skills and in-depth investigation skills o work on open-ended activities which encourage choice and negotiation o undergo self/peer evaluation and reflection of performance.
Instrumental Music
Selection into this program is based on musical aptitude testing and
other criteria, and if your child is selected, this outstanding program
will take your child’s love of music to the next level. They will receive free
instrumental tuition and the opportunity to participate in a range
of music enrichment activities.
Our testimonial… “Our strategy is based on the interrelationship of the key elements that comprise what we are and what we want

Staff to implement the Australian curriculum in the plan, teach, evaluate cycle, through to reporting to parents in English, Maths, History and Science.
Staff to attend, be involved in and implement the initiatives of the “Kidsmatter” Framework to develop a positive focussed school culture.
Within our Pastoral Care Policy; to develop an action plan to imbed the ethos of ‘Kidsmatter’, to complement current effective, whole-school care practises.
STRATEGY 3 – PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
To create a safe & stimulating environment to aid in student development and well-being. Therefore, the school will…
Action Target Planning for and maintaining active and passive recreation areas for all age groups.
Increase the number of students who are engaged in recreational activities.

STRATEGY 4 – COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT “…parent and community interest in quality education, is the critical factor in the impact of the
school environment on the achievement and educational aspirations of students”
Prof. Anne Henderson. Therefore, the school will…
Action Target Promote the P&C and School Board as important forums for community input into the operation of the school.
To increase the number of registrations of interest in the P&C and School Board in the year prior to vacancies
