Economical Open-end Spinning

In business since 1960 Textiles have a long history in Nam Dinh. SonNam started production in 1960 as astate-owned company in Nam Dinh province.Initially there was a dyeing and finishingplant, followed by weaving and towel weavingfacilities. In 2005 SonNam became a jointstock company. It operates 200 weaving looms and 700 handicraft looms, mainly forterry towel. In addition to this capacity, thecompany purchases some 3000 tons/year oftowels made in small village mills (contractmanufacturers).

In 2003 SonNam was awarded the VietnameseGold Medal by the Province of Nam Dinh forthe high quality of its towelling fabric. Thetowels are made up and packaged in the com-pany’s own sewing facility.

With all this production capacity SonNamachieves an annual turnover of around 10 million USD, 70% of which is for export,mainly to Japan, Korea and even Italy. Exports to the USA are traded via China.

A complete plant from one supplierProducing good yarn quality with moderateraw material is not easy. Mr. Nguyen TheMinh of SonNam responded to this challengeby investing in a modern rotor spinning plant featuring the latest technology.

Rieter supplied the entire spinning mill andsupported the customer during the planningphase with comprehensive services, such as spinning schedule calculations, detailedpayback calculations and CAD layout plansfor the whole mill.

On the basis of these detailed calculations,including such aspects as Vietnamese wagelevels, interest costs, capital costs, etc., themost economical solution was to invest insemi-automatic rotor spinning machines BT 923 while shortening the carding process.The first drafting passage is included in thenew C 60 card with the SB module, thus reducing space requirements and handlingtime.

Raw materialThe raw cotton used in Vietnam is in mostcases imported. Gentle and fiber-saving rawmaterial preparation is therefore essential toreduce high raw material costs.

Short yet effective blowroomThe blend of the different raw material is al-ready performed on the UNIfloc A 11. The widetake off unit gently processes off the small tuftsand generates a first blending stage.

Effectively precleaned in the UNIclean, con-trolled by the VARIOset which ensures a gentleend effective removal of the coarse trash, fibrefragments and dust, the cotton blend is fedinto the UNImix. There the 3-point blendingallows a homogenous blending in only onesingle machine.

As a last cleaning stage the UNIflex fine clean-ing machine, also equipped with VARIOset,extracts the fine trash and dust ensuring opti-mal preparation for the card.

Combined carding and drafting – shortening the process with C 60 cardsSonNam operates two C 60 cards with inte-grated drawframe module and benefits fromthe most advanced carding technology. Thecards, running at SonNam with a productioncapacity of 150 kg/h, deliver perfect cleaningand carding quality results. Very short mainte-nance and setting times are possible thanks to the modular design of the C 60 card. Thecards are equipped with the integrated grind-ing system IGS classic, which guaranteeshigher quality and productivity due to the extended lifetime of the card clothing.

DrawframeYarn quality is mainly influenced by draftingquality. The autoleveller drawframe passage after the card further improves sliver quality. The regulation of sliver quality on the RSB-D 35 autoleveler drawframe is unmatched. The draw-frame is easy to operate and maintain thanks tocentral roller settings, centralized lubricationand central suction.

High quality rotor yarns produced on BT 923

Reliable quality productionTop yarn quality values are achieved with external suction for the technological air androtors without ventilating holes with the new C 120 spin box. The spinning parameters can be set easily and guarantee a constantquality level in yarn production. The BT 923machine is very flexible and allows the spinning of a wide yarn count range and wide material range.

Easy operation and flexibilitySince the semi-automatic piecing process isassisted by an operator, the easy access to thespinning position of the BT 923 is appreciatedby the petite Vietnamese operators. The user-friendly design of the new section layout witha pitch of 230 mm easily accommodates 18”cans. At the same time the working height iseven lower with 42” inch high cans. As a resultthe operators easily approach the machine andthere is also less can handling. The BT 923 machine offers supreme flexibilitywith independent drives. Due to completely in-dependent machine drives the SonNam com-pany can produce two different yarns on onemachine at the same time. This allows to plansmall and medium lots production and react toalways increasing demand on fast deliveries.Additionally the BT 923 can be equipped withthe integrated slub yarn device, also as an up-grade, and the production can be extendedwith a fashionable effect yarn.

Guaranteed yarn quality SonNam wanted to have a guaranteed yarnquality for their weaving mill. With their ownspinning mill they are now able to optimize theyarn quality features to their productionprocesses in weaving and finishing.

SonNam decided for the new semi-automaticrotor spinning machine BT 923. The com-pletely new machine concept and design of theBT 923 focuses on solutions for increasedproductivity, ergonomic and operator-friendlydesign and systems for improving and moni-toring the yarn quality.

BT machines are well known for a high spin-ning stability and thus high machine effi-ciency. It is even when moderate raw materialsuch as regenerated fibers are processed. Thisspinning stability and the yarn quality valueshave even been improved with the newly designed C 120 spin box of the BT 923. Themachine also uses a proven concept of elec-tronically controlled piecing AMIspin®. Incombination with Qtop® and underpressureloop compensation, the piecer and packagequality can reach the automated machine level.With AMIspin® the quality of the piecer is always the same and not influenced by the operator’s skills. The yarn and piecer quality is 100% monitored with the integrated, opticalIQplus® yarn clearer.
