SCIENCE 3Unit I, Chapter 1, Lesson 5: Characteristics of Solids According to Texture2
STRUCTURED LEARNING EPISODEGRADE III
Competency:Describe different objects based on their characteristics (e.g. Shape, Weight, Volume, Ease of flow) (S3MT-Ia-b-1)Classify objects and materials as solid, liquid, and gas based on some observable characteristics (S3MT-Ic-d-2)
Lesson:Characteristics of Solids According to Texture
Objectives:1. Name solids of different textures2. Group different solids based on their texture3. Describe different solids based on texture4. Participate in group activities
Reference:K to 12 Learners Material pp. 6-7K to 12 Teachers Guide pp. 10-12
Materials:Different solids ( sponge, wooden stick, sandpaper, cardboard, plastic cup, others )Checklist of different solids inside the room
Activities:PrimingGameAsk the pupils to go on a walk around their classroom and let them touch various objects. Ask the pupils to describe the texture. (The descriptions could be hard, soft, rough, smooth.)
Activity Activity Sheet 5: Texture Hunt
Analysis(must be guided by the checklist made from Activity 5)
What solids in the room are smooth, rough, soft or hard? Will you name them? How many solids did you hunt? Can you describe the solids? Can you describe the solids as hard or soft, rough or smooth? How can you tell? What characteristic of solids was shown in the activity? Are the solids of the same texture? different textures? Can you give examples?
AbstractionDo solids have textures? What are the different textures of solids?Solids have different textures. They can be categorized as smooth, rough, hard and soft.
ApplicationHow can classifying the texture of objects help you in your daily life activities?
Closure1. Can you describe the solids by touching/ feeling?2. Are solids of the same texture? different textures?3. What characteristic of solids was shown in the activity?( Textures of solids are determined by touching/ feeling them. Solids have the same or different textures )
AssessmentAsk the pupils to group the materials according to their texture. Write the name of the solid in the proper box. plastic cup drinking glass ice pencil eraser leaf stone metal spoon
HardSoftRoughSmooth
AgreementAsk the pupils to list at least ten solids from a place outside their homes. (backyard garden, sidewalk) and identify the solids based on their texture.

Direction: Activity Sheet 5: Texture Hunt
1. As a group, walk around the room. Look for different solids.2. Touch each solid. Observe safety measures. In your notebook:a. name the solids correctlyb. tell something about the solidsc. share your hunt to the class3. Copy the checklist in your notebook. Put a check mark on the correct texture of each solid.
5. Answer the following questions: What solids in the room are smooth, rough, soft, hard? Will you name them? How many solids did you hunt? Can you describe the solids?
