Torque limits for mounting screwsDo not exceed the maximum torque limits for the mounting screws when you install theDIN rails and DeltaV S-series and CHARMs hardware.

Hardware Torque limit on mounting screw

DIN rail stop 0.9 Nm (8 in-lb)

Power terminations on carriers 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)

Terminal block field terminations 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)

CHARM terminals 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)

Wiring guidelinesStranded or solid wire and shielded or twisted pair wire can be used with a DeltaV system.

Stranded or solid wire

The power and grounding terminals and field termination points on the carriers' terminalblocks are 2.8 mm by 2.5 mm (2.8 mm x 2.5 mm). The maximum recommended wire sizefor the terminals is 14 AWG, stranded or solid gauge wire or a 14 AWG ferrule. To selectwire, calculate the maximum current limit expected for each wire and refer to your localelectrical codes that define the wire size required for a specific current.

Shielded or twisted pair wire

Shielded twisted pair wiring is recommended for low-level signal wiring to reducesusceptibility to noise. A shield ground bar to isolate and drain field noise away from theDeltaV system is integrated into the 8-Wide I/O Carrier and the CHARM Baseplate.

CHARMs Smart Logic Solver (CSLS) SIShardware overviewCSLS SIS hardware consists of:

CHARMsSmart LogicSolvers (CSLS)

CSLS process LS CHARM signals and run the SIS modules that containthe safety system logic. Redundant CSLS can support up to 96 LSCHARMs. The maximum number of LS CHARMs (96) are organized ineight banks of 12 CHARMs. Each bank of 12 LS CHARMs is held by aCHARM Baseplate. CSLS mount on CHARMs Smart Logic Solver Carriersand connect to the Local Safety Network through connectors on thecarriers.

SZ Controllers SZ Controllers mount on the SZ Controller Carrier and connect to theArea Control Network and the Local Safety Network through ports onthe carrier. SZ Controllers isolate CSLS from the rest of the system. SZ

controllers receive redundant 24 VDC input through the carrier. AModbus/TCP port on the carrier enables an SZ controller to supportstandalone SIS installations.

CHARMsSmart LogicSolver Carriers

CSLS Carriers are DIN rail-mounted carriers that hold simplex orredundant CSLS and Power Modules. The CSLS Carrier provides 24 VDCinput to the CSLS and to the Power Modules. The Power Modulesprovide 6.3 VDC to the LS CHARMs. The CSLS Carrier houses primaryand secondary Safety Network Ports for connections to the Local SafetyNetwork and a keylock switch that restricts how and when the CSLS canbe unlocked for downloads and upgrades.

SZ ControllerCarriers

SZ Controller Carriers are DIN rail-mounted carriers that hold simplex orredundant SZ Controllers. The SZ Controller Carrier houses primary andsecondary Safety Isolation Ports for connections to the DeltaV AreaControl Network and to the Local Safety Network.

CHARMBaseplates

CHARM Baseplates hold Logic Solver CHARMs (LS CHARMs). The CHARMBaseplates connect to the CSLS Carrier and to other baseplates throughconnectors on the baseplates. Each CHARM Baseplate holds up to 12Logic Solver CHARMs terminal blocks that hold LS CHARMs, and anAddress Plug that determines the address of the CHARM Baseplate andthe CHARMs installed on the baseplate.

Logic Solver(LS) CHARMs

LS CHARMs are single I/O channels that plug into the LS CHARM TerminalBlocks on the CHARM Baseplate. The DeltaV system supports analoginput, discrete input, discrete output (including LS DO redundant DTAand LS DO redundant ETA CHARMs), LS DVC HART simplex andredundant DTA, power output, thermocouple input, and voltage LSCHARMs as well as LS Intrinsically Safe analog input and discrete inputCHARMs.

Recommended sequence for installing CHARMsSmart Logic Solver SIS hardwareThe installation sequence described in this topic is only a recommendation. You canperform these steps in the order that best meets the needs of your project.

• Install vertical DIN rails

• Snap a SZ Controller Carrier on the DIN rail.

• Snap the CHARMs Smart Logic Solver (CSLS) Carrier onto the DIN rail

• Connect and install up to eight CHARM Baseplates under the CSLS Carrier on the DINrail

• Install the column terminator to the last CHARM Baseplate

• Install the DIN Rail Stop after the column terminator to prevent the baseplates fromslipping down on the DIN rail

• Wire the devices to the terminal blocks and perform field wiring checkout

• Connect the bulk power supplies to the CSLS Carrier

• Install the SZ Controllers onto the carrier and provide power to the controllers

Recommendations for installing vertical DINrailsCHARMs hardware is designed for installation on vertical T-type DIN rails in an enclosuresuitable for the location in which the equipment is installed. Use standard, 3.5 cm (1.38inch) T-type DIN rails to hold the equipment.

Suggested spacing for DIN rail installation

• Maintain 2.5 cm (.98 inch) from the top of the carrier to the bottom of the wirewaymounted above or to the top edge of the enclosure's mounting surface.

• Maintain 2.5 cm (.98 inch) from the left side of the carrier to the right side of awireway mounted on the left of the carrier or the left edge of the enclosure’smounting surface.

• Maintain 5.0 cm (1.97 inch) from the right side of the carrier to the left side of awireway mounted to the right of the carrier or the right edge of the enclosure’smounting surface.

Install an SZ Controller Carrier on the DIN railThe SZ Controller Carrier holds redundant SZ Controllers. It has redundant 24 VDCconnectors for providing power to the controllers, redundant (primary and secondary)ethernet ports for connection to the Area Control Network, and redundant (primary andsecondary) ethernet ports for connection to the Local Safety Network.

No tools are required to install the SZ Controller Carrier on the DIN rail. A latch on the backof the carrier snaps it into place on the DIN rail.

3 Making network connectionsTopics covered in this chapter:

• Communication in a CHARMs Smart Logic Solver SIS system

• Connect the CHARMs Smart Logic Solver to the Local Safety Network

• Connect the SZ Controller to the Area Control Network and the Local SafetyNetwork

• Connect an SZ Controller's Modbus/TCP port to a third party safety system

• CHARMs Smart Logic Solver (CSLS) SIS example network

Communication in a CHARMs Smart LogicSolver SIS systemIn a CSLS SIS system, communication occurs over the DeltaV Area Control Network and aLocal Safety Network.

DeltaVAreaControlNetwork

The DeltaV Area Control Network is an Ethernet network that enablescommunication between the nodes in a DeltaV network. SZ Controllersconnect to the Area Control Network (as well as to the Local SafetyNetwork) and isolate the CHARMs Smart Logic Solvers (CSLS) from the restof the DeltaV system. Refer to the DeltaV™ S-series and CHARMs HardwareInstallation manual for information on setting up the Area Control Network.

LocalSafetyNetwork

The Local Safety Network is a Ethernet network that enablescommunication between CSLSs and a single SZ Controller. The CSLSscommunicate secure parameter and input data to other CSLSs over theLocal Safety Network. The SZ Controller communicates configuration, parameter changes, and module data over the Local Safety Network to theCSLSs. SZ Controllers provide the DeltaV interface to multiple CSLSs on thesame Local Safety Network. All CSLSs under one SZ Controller share thesame Local Safety Network.

NoteThe Local Safety Network must be treated as a dedicated standalone Local AreaNetwork (LAN) and must not be connected to any other network including otherDeltaV Local Safety Networks. Other than switches and DeltaV nodes, no othernetwork devices should be connected to the Local Safety Network.
