Secondary students are invited to attend our SHSM Leadership course. OELC/CASO provides dynamic leadership development sessions, roundtable discussions and game changing workshops that empower students to use their voice for positive change in their school and/or local community. Supporting teacher advisors are encouraged to join us, network with teachers from around the province, attend PD sessions and share best practices.

Workshops Leadership Development Sessions

Workshops consist of experiential learning opportunities that take place indoors and outdoors lead by experienced Teacher Facilitators, Outdoor Educators and Guest Facilitators. Each workshop is designed to provide students with unique ideas that teach them about themselves as leaders and their role as a global citizen. Experiences in workshops can positively affect well-being within schools and communities.

Innovative leadership development sessions build students’ capacity for community building, teamwork, communication, inclusion and developing a sense of responsibility. Students will explore their roles as leaders in their school and will create action plans to help build a positive school and/or community climate. Experiential activities in these Leadership Development Sessions may include time in our escape rooms, low ropes course, team building maze, Sherpa walk and a variety of other engaging group initiative tasks.

Students and Teacher advisors go to www.oelccaso.com to register for SHSM Leadership. You will need your health card number, parent email, supporting teacher’s name and email. Contact us if online access is a challenge!

3 day, 2 night Course Date: May 13-15 and Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2020* Student Fees: $240 + HST Teacher Fees: $75 + HST Up to 5 SHSM certificates *Indicates 2 day, 1 night option at $170 + HST

Who attends SHSM Leadership?

SHSM Leadership is for Grade 11 and 12 students who are exploring their career goals and are looking to gain important skills and industry certifications. Students will receive a certificate for each certification completed. SHSM Certifications include but are not limited to: Leadership Skills, Communication Skills, Group Dynamics, Customer Service, Conflict Resolution, Personality Inventory, Ethical Considerations, Equity and Inclusion, High 5 and more! All Specialist High Skills Majors are welcome! Teachers can contact OELC to discuss specific certification needs.

Course Logistics

• Teacher Advisors/Supporters from each school are encouraged to attend. Separate accommodation will be provided.

• Please let us know if transportation is a challenge. OELC can help coordinate schools attending from similar geographic locations.

• There is no minimum or maximum number of students that a school can send. We are here to remove barriers to participation. Please let us know if you would like to attend and we will work with you to help make it happen!
