What is a SHSM in ICT? Specialized Ministry of Education program. A special diploma with SHSM’s seal and record

card that details all your accomplishments . Covers all four 'pathways' – college, university,

apprenticeship, workplace. Completion of a specific bundle of 8-10 courses

in the student's selected field. Designed for students interested in Information

and Communication Technology.

Technology@ SHSM in ICT

Our SHSM program will focus on two areas of Information and Communications Technology:• Interactive Digital Media• Digital Systems Engineering

Two pathways for ICT@Castlebrooke

Interactive Digital Media Pathway:• For arts/technology:students

with a focus on computer animation, video and radio broadcasting, video gaming production and Apps development.

The Digital Systems Engineering Pathway:• For the technology/math/science: students with a

focus on computer programming, computer engineering and M2M Robotics (systems controls).

Who qualifies for the SHSM?

Grade 11 and 12 students who are: Heading for an apprenticeship, training, college,

university or the workplace. Wanting to identify, explore and refine their

career goals and make informed choices about their next steps after secondary school.

Why ICT?

Information technology professionals are found in all local and global industry sectors.

According to the Economic Development Office, Brampton’s ICT sector is made up of five main sub-sectors: Telecommunications services Software and computer services Cable and other program distribution ICT wholesaling ICT manufacturing.

These ICT sub-sectors include over 250 companies, employing almost 6,800 workers.

The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry is one of the fastest growing career areas.

The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC), a non-for-profit sector council, predicts that there will be an expected shortfall of 106,000 ICT skilled workers in Canada by 2016.

A $160 billion industry, ICT makes up 5% of the entire Canadian economy.
