A BIT OF CONTEXT
Bonner Programs at 80+ colleges & universities
Each one works with 10-100 students
Each has 10-200 community partners
We work across common issues to make a difference
TOOLS CAN HELP WITH...
Outreach, recruitment, & matching
Program management (and design)
Connecting you to other resources on campus (and in our network)
Storing & sharing your knowledge
FOUR KEY TOOLS
WIKI: Partner Profile for Bonner Program or Campus-Wide Wiki
Facebook: Profile, Group, Fan Page, & Ads
PolicyOptions tool for research
Videos: Bonner Video Project and Serve 2.0 grant
USING A WIKI: A PARTNER PROFILE
Wiki: interactive web-page (you can edit)
Agency Name & Contact Info
Mission/Vision
Program Descriptions
Map/Location
Volunteer Positions
Videos & More
A simple profile introduces your
site.
Students create, access,
& update.
This is Davidson’s
Wiki...with a spot waiting for
you!
A Campus-Wide Wiki can help with
outreach, listing volunteer
opportunities at your site.
The Wiki can introduce students to important information about the neighborhood. Here
students did community asset mapping to create
videos and then mapped partners.
The wiki can be a tool for students at
your site to do planning & better
work (setting goals, charting
progress).
You can join the Bonner Network
Wiki to learn more & connect to other uses.
SO WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO WIKI?
Get your emails added
Appoint a student to help you...
Let’s brainstorm some next steps!
USING FACEBOOK: PRACTICAL OPTIONS
Your agency as a ‘person’
Facebook Fan Page
Facebook Group
Calendar and Events
Ads & Peer-to-Peer Recruitment
It’s SOCIAL (limited programmatically)
Check out Davidson’s
Bonner Scholars Group (93 members)
Link your social media options to
your main webpage.
Students and other volunteers can be fans of your page.
Post photos from events.
Create a profile with basic information.
You or a student volunteer can
create a group for your organization &
recruit others. (Tony has 969
friends).
You can also create and pay for an ad on Facebook.Make sure to cap the amount you want to spend (even $10).
Target specific individuals at the school (Davidson’s students, alumni or Bonners) or in the community.
Pay per click to keep it affordable.
SO NOW WHAT WITH FACEBOOK?
Your strategy should depend on what you’re comfortable with and how you want to spend your time...
Get a student on this one.
Let’s brainstorm some next steps!
POLICY OPTIONS:A RESEARCH TOOL
Students and faculty are now working to research related program models & policy issues
Your input helps define the topic
Over time, we will build a new resource for communities
This starts with a campus profile for
its work on the issue.
This is just starting...each
campus will pilot one issue brief this
semester.
As students & faculty do research, they can record it
here.
There will also be ways to record &
access information by locality.
Bonner Campuses are now starting to
identify topics with partner input. Then,
they’ll work through a detailed process to create issue briefs.
SO WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Think more broadly about your organization’s work. What might be some possible topics for policy-related research?
Think in terms of legislation and also program models.
Each organization brainstorm some ideas to discuss with students.
VIDEO PROJECT: SHARING OUR STORIES
Bonners are now involved in creating videos
Program Profile
Partner Profile
Issue Profile
Training & Enrichment Activity
POTENTIAL PARTNER INVOLVEMENT
Telling your story through a Partner Profile video
Sharing your knowledge through an Issue video
Expanding your resources for training
Participation is OPTIONAL.
Permission & Media Releases Required!
Videos may later be shared through the
Bonner Network via our YouTube channel and other postings.
SO ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VIDEOS?
Which of the videos interest you most (partner profile, issue profile, training activity)?
Express your interest to Bonner staff & students
There are many more tools!
