    FOURTH WATERLOO METHAMPHETAMINE DEALER SENTENCED

    A man who conspired with others to distribute over 30 pounds of methamphetamine inWaterloo was sentenced April 27, 2010, to 16 years in federal prison. He is the fourth personsentenced in connection with this investigation.

    James Schaefer, 37, from Waterloo, Iowa, received the prison term after a February 18,2010, guilty plea to conspiring to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, conspiring to

    launder money, and being a felon in possession of firearms.

    At the sentencing hearing, Schaefer admitted he was involved in a conspiracy to distributemore than 30 pounds of methamphetamine and the laundering of over $200,000. Schaefer alsoadmitted he was a felon on June 6, 2009, when officers searched his residence and seized fourfirearms.

    Schaefer was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge LindaR. Reade. Schaefer was sentenced to 192 months imprisonment. A special assessment of $300was imposed. He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term.There is no parole in the federal system.

    Schaefer is being held in the United States Marshals custody until he can be transported toa federal prison.

    Other defendants sentenced in this case are: Dustin Corwin, Jesus Aguilar-Vega, and PaulNeilsen.

    The case is being prosecuted by Ass istant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert and wasinvestigated by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of theUnited States Department of Justice through a cooperative effort of the Oelwein Police Department,Tri-County Drug Task Force, Cedar Rapids DEA Task Force, United States Immigration andCustoms Enforcement, Internal Revenue Service, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Tri-County Drug Task Force is composed of the Waterloo Police Department, Cedar Falls PoliceDepartment, Waverly Police Department, Bremer County Sheriffs Office, Black Hawk County

    Sheriffs Office, LaPorte City Police Department, Evansdale Police Department, Hudson PoliceDepartment, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Cedar Rapids Drug EnforcementAdministration (DEA) Task Force consists of the DEA; Linn County Sheriff's Office; Cedar RapidsPolice Department; Marion Police Department; Iowa City Police Department; Clinton PoliceDepartment; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, andExplosives; Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services; and Iowa National Guard.
