Sculpture 2 revisits content and skills learned in sculpture 1 and will also introduce new techniques and challenges. In sculpture students create, reflect, problem solve, critique, design and produce artwork in a variety of media including paper, wire, plaster, foam, and clay. Students should frequently check the class website for assignments, calendar, instructional videos and other information. Expectations of a Sculpture Student Course Policies Be Prompt, Be Polite, Be Prepared, Be Productive Treat the people, tools and materials in the room with respect. There is no food allowed in the sculpture room. Artwork depicting or related to drugs/gangs/violence and or any explicit material is unacceptable. If you’re unsure, ask. Students should work on projects the entire period. If a project is finished early, students are to revise their work to make it stronger or create a complimenting project to continue practice. Students may also work in their sketchbook. Not working on artwork the entire period results in a loss of work ethic points. $40 Course Fee: pay promptly because you will be using materials right away. Attendance: Sculpture tools are only available in the classroom, therefore missing class gives you less time to complete your project. The due date is not changed because you missed class. Late Work: 5 points are deducted if a project is turned in more than a week late. Lab Safety/Health: Use all art tools in the art room with caution. If you do not know how to use something or feel uncomfortable ASK for help! Treating materials in a disrespectful manner costs work ethic points and my result in being written up. Lockers: Sketchbooks are stored in the lockers along with projects. There is not much space to store artwork, so keep your locker organized. 1 week after a project has been graded it can be disposed of without notice and students will loose points for making the teacher or custodian clean it up. Clean up: Maintaining a clean classroom is important to classroom safety and productivity. Students are expected to put materials away, clean up the floor, wash tables and help others. Cleaning up early and not helping others or leaving a mess will result in loss of work ethic points. Cell Phones: Cell phones are kept in your backpacks. Students seen on their phones will loose work ethic points. Using your phone distracts you from your work and breaks your concentration. Instead print off resources needed. You are allowed to use your phone only on introduction to project days to research or to take a quick photograph in the photobooth. Plagarism: copying ideas from the internet is considered plagiarism and will result in a low grade. Sculpture 2 Ms. Mann [email protected] www.skylinesculpture.weebly.com Room 2503

Grading

The overall grade is built up from points from Projects, Portfolios (website) Studio Practice points, Readings, Sketchbooks, Critiques, Artist statements and Reflections. If a student is not happy with the grade they earned on a project, they are welcome to make changes, redo the project and turn it in again for more points up until before the final exam. I do not round grades. After the final has been taken that is the grade awarded for the grading period.   Sketchbooks are collected and graded at the midterm and the end of the semester. Each project in the sketchbook is worth 10 points if correctly completed.

Portfolio/Final: Students are asked to keep track of their projects through a digital portfolio that is graded in the final at the end of the semester. Pictures should be taken of each project and uploaded to a website. Students can do this by making a Weebly site, Spark Page, separate Instagram account or can submit an email containing their photos. What if I am falling behind or I’m struggling with my grade or projects?

You earn your grade, you are not just given a grade. If at any point before the final you are not meeting your grade goals in this class, or are having trouble on a project, please come talk to me first or email me. You are the best advocate for YOU!
