THENATIVITYOFST.JOHNTHEBAPTIST LaNatividaddeSanJuanelBautistaToday we celebrate the birth of St. John the Baptist. This prophet, who practiced austeri-ty in the desert, proclaimed the kingdom of God, a coming judgment, and baptism as a sign of repentance. With deep humility, John directed attention not to himself but to Jesus. John’s attitude was, “He must increase, I must decrease” (John 3:30). John’s birth, days after the summer solstice when daylight hours begin to decrease, contrasts with Je-sus’ birth days after the winter solstice, her-alding daylight’s increase. Like John the Bap-tist, stewards turn attention away from themselves and towards Jesus. The steward-ship question for us is whether or not we ourselves are pre-pared to “decrease” and allow Jesus to “increase” in our hearts, minds, words and actions.

Hoy celebramos el nacimiento de San Juan el Bautista. Este profeta, quien practicaba austeri-dad en el desierto, proclamo el reino de Dios, la llegada del juicio, y el bautismo como signo de arrepentimiento. PROPER SUMMER (HOT WEATHER) ATTIRE The hot weather months are here and the com-ing months might be characterized as “casual”. However, we respectfully ask that ALL parish-ioners make an effort to dress appropriately for Sunday Eucharist. Shorts, cut-off jeans, tank tops, athletic shirts and short skirts are very inappropriate in the House of God. Our respect for the Lord and the other members of Christ’s body demands that we dress appropriately. Does what I am wearing show respect for where I am going to and tell everyone how I feel about this sacred action?

FOODDRIVEPope Francis has called for a Church attentive to the needs of the poor. Next week is our monthly parish food drive; please continue to donate. The past month, Outreach Center teams of parishioners from our parish and Santa Rosa volunteered for the Home Visit Mission, to give witness to the call "to love thy neighbor" to 30 needy families in the area by sharing our Christian faith, inquiring into their real needs and providing a box of food. This Mission needs your help to continue helping our neighbors. We need your assistance through donating food and/or visiting with the families.
