Key technological advantages

Interactive desktop supercomputer First parallel simulator supporting 3D monioring and User’s interactivity at runtime: - automatically accelerates simulations on any number of CPU cores available (3-10 times) - monitor all 3D dynamic reservoir & well data at runtime - add wells, patterns, re-start runs, generate forecasts interactively at runtime - pre-, post-processing, monitoring through one intuitive multiplatform GUI - runtime analytics, 3D streamlines, drainage matrix, waterflood and injection optimization - split full-field models into sectors, merge them back without using Petrel, Gocad, etc. World's fastest parallel simulations for HPC clusters: - industry first hybrid parallel solver combining shared memory algorithms inside cluster nodes (threads) and MPI synchronization between nodes - typical acceleration factors for 20 node cluster are 40-50 instead of 8-12 (any existing industry simulators) New technologies: hydraulic fractures for full-field (shale gas), nano-polymers, etc.

ROI. Major reasons to switch

Seamless support of the existing models - loads Eclipse-100 models directly, no need to convert formats (also Tempest MORE, STARS*) - the simulation results can be written as the industry standard binary files Zero Tax for parallel performance - the license price is per computer and doesn't depend on the number of CPUs, cores used - automatically turns 4,12-core computer (e.g. HP Z800) into desktop supercomputer - run existing models 3-10 times faster on existing hardware - run models with minimum or no upscaling on multicore desktops, HPC clusters Software for all model sizes, all levels of expertise - powerful 3D GUI allows to perform many operations interactively, no keywords typing - users enjoy run-time live results monitoring, 3D streamlines, interactive re-starts - 32, 64-bit Linux, Windows systems, runs models from 1 to 100 million active grid blocks

Case studies

TNK-BP - corporate server license, statistics show more than 150 users, 80/day on average - universal support for all the corporate - use parallel performance, - , built-in 3D streamlines analysis for waterflood, workovers, and sidetrack planning directly at the field production units of Samatlor field (special accelerated training was designed). Gazpromneft - 30 licenses for desktop supercomputing using HP Z800 (8 cores, 16 threads) - 5 licenses for full-field massive hydraulic fracture modeling at low perm Priobskoye field LUKOIL - evaluating hybrid tNavigator for its HPC cluster intended for giant Iraq fields modeling

Support of standard functionality

- multi-component, fully-implicit calculations - black oil, live oil, wet gas, compositional, thermal compositional (research versions) - corner point, general mesh formulation (NNC, LGR, faults, pinch, etc.) - multi-reservoir option, surface network option - BHP, THP well controls, controls by debits, group, field including surface - multiple filtration, PVT (including multibranching), equilibrium regions - 3-phase permeabilities (end-point scaling), gravitation, capillary effects - vertical, deviated, horizontal, multi-segmented wells, fractures - segmented well density model - aquifers (constant flux, Fetkovich, Carter Tracy) - tracers, (nano)polymer flooding, collectors with salt - 3D streamlines modeling, drainage matrix analysis, injection efficiency evaluation - local multipoint flux approximation

Page 9: Rock Flow Dynamics (Rfd)

Interactive GUI + Parallel simulations

- multi-screen interface allows for live monitoring of any dynamic reservoir properties, well production data, 3D streamlines - access different layers of data, analytics using mouse - simulator automatically runs on all the computers cores (e.g. quad-core laptop)

Page 10: Rock Flow Dynamics (Rfd)

Advanced fracture modeling

- the hydraulic fractures are simulated as a network of

that ensures correct physics behavior - special tNav keywords allow to add propant tables to simulated dependencies of fracture permeabilities as functions of pressure, accum. flux - simulation of dynamic fracture behavior auto opening of fractures at the injectors

Application for shale oil production at Eagle Ford shale

- Grid sizes:

dx = dy = 25m dz = 1m

- Avg Perm: ~20 nano Darcy

- BHP = 50 atm

- Oil: 1.2 cP

Wells and fracture configurations at Eagle Ford shale

- wells length: 2 km

- well-to-well: 800 m

- fractures: +/- 1m high random 100-200 m wide - microseismic data - fracture completion with chemicals

Benchmarking with other simulators

- many clients run very detailed internal evaluations, comparing typical industry standard simulators they already use and tNavigator, - according to our statistics approximately 300 models were checked against Eclipse-100 and about 150 against Tempest MORE, - overall, the consistency is found to be very good, no major problems found!
