Bahria University Islamabad Campus Academic and Extracurricular Activities March– April 2017 Industrial Trip for the students of Computer Engineering Department: National Institute of Electronics (NIE) is an autonomous organization under the administrative control of Ministry of Science & Technology. It was established in 1979 through the Presidential Ordinance for the promotion of electronics at the national level. The institute has highly trained/experienced pool of engineers, scientists and technicians, qualified from the leading universities/institutions of the world. The institute is a premier design and development organization in the field of electronics in Pakistan. Since its inception in 1980 the Institute has developed considerable expertise in Digital Electronics, Power Electronics, Computer Hardware/Software and Computer Training. On March 8 th , 2017 the administration of Bahria University Islamabad, took the graduating batch of Computer Engineering Department to an industrial tour to NIE. Students along with a number of faculty members received highly informative lectures from the trained scientists and engineers. They also had the chance to witness some field related industrial production. Bahria University is always trying to get its student a step closer to practical life. Richard E. Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship & TechJuices’ 25 Under 25Muhammad Haseeb Aslam from Department of Computer Engineering Bahria University Islamabad Campus is a self-proclaimed geek who has transformed his passion for robotics by fostering its culture in his university and is now working towards making a difference on a broader level! Throughout his scholastic career, he led a distinguished profile when it comes to academic performance. Whether it was receiving cash scholarships from DWGR in SSC exams or it was getting his name shortlisted for Rector’s List at BUIC, Haseeb has always strived to be the best! He is also the recipient of Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship from IEEE Computer Society which is a 1000 USD Cash Award, additionally; this scholarship gives him the chance to serve as Student Ambassador of the Asia-Pacific region for the year 2017. Haseeb was just featured in “TechJuices’ 25 under 25”. Each year ‘TechJuice’ publishes a list of high achieving Pakistanis under the age of 25 (or 25) who have excelled in technology arena. These young achievers have defied all the negative stereotypes attached to our country and garnered local and global accolades. Haseeb was 7th on the said list.

Pink Day 2016:Bahria University Islamabad in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Pakistan started a two day campaign on 20th & 21st October 2016 to honour the cause of fighting against breast cancer. The campaign’s aim was to increase the awareness of breast cancer and help breast cancer patients to fight it. The campaign started with all female seminar in Presentation hall with partnership from Shifa Foundation.Guest Speaker Dr. Khadeeja gave informative lectures regarding “Breast Cancer Awareness” talking about preventive measures, self-examination, and the importance of this session that can never be overemphasized as this basic awareness can save lives and reduce the increasing number of breast cancer patients. We have students of Bahria University Islamabad working as volunteers for SKMH in this cause and they took part in organizing this event actively and very creatively. Most of the students on campus wore pink clothes on the day to show solidarity and put up desks in every building, decorating the corner and giving away awareness brochures leaflets, distributing pink ribbons to everyone and collecting donation for building the first ever breast cancer hospital in Pakistan.Last but not the least Sports club of BUI organized an interdepartmental volleyball tournament for to make the pink day more festive and show that males are also actively participating and standing up for the cause. Attracting more audience with pink décor and an exhilarating friendly matches doubled the enthusiasm in rising for the cause of this awareness. The final match between Management Sciences and Engineering Sciences has added to the rising fervour on the second day.

COMBITS’17:Team Machinilog participated in a national competition ‘’ COMBITS’17” project exhibition held at Comsats Attock campus. Team performed with great enthusiasm and glorified the victory by attaining the first position among 20 teams from all around the country including FAST, NUML, and CIIT Team. Seven Teachers for evaluation were selected from different universities. There were few teams who were able to give real time demonstration of the project.

Extracurricular teams from BUIC also participated in various competitions including Futsal, E-gaming (Fifa & Call of Duty) and volleyball.The Futsal team included; Talha Azhar, Ch. Zeeshan, Saqib Saeed, Nabeel Ahmed Abbasi, Ubaid Khan, Muhammad Danial, Muzammil Ishfaq, Muhammad Hammad (From CE & SE). The team played exceptionally well and ended up as the runner ups in the tournament.

Humanities & Social Sciences Department

International Women’s Day:The faculty members of Humanities and Social Sciences in collaboration with Management Sciences organized a seminar on 6 March 2017 on International Women’s day in auditorium, Bahria University Islamabad. The session was attended by Director General Bahria University, faculty members and students. Different speakers were invited to speak on the International Women’s day, its origin, cause and significance.

Welcome Party Spring 2017:The students of Humanities and Social Sciences arranged a welcome party for the first semester of spring 2017 on 17 March 2017. Head of Department and faculty members also attended. The party was organized and well managed by the students in Dynasty Marquee.

Maritime Security in Indian Ocean: Prospects and Challenges in Pakistan:Head of Department, Dr. Azhar Ahmad participated as inaugural speaker in a one day national conference on “Maritime Security in Indian Ocean: Prospects and Challenges for Pakistan” in Marriott on 27th March 2017. The event was organized by Centre for Pak Gulf Studies.

Presentation Skills:HSS department organized a seminar on Presentation Skills in Auditorium on 14th April 2017. The Guest Speaker was Mr. Fakhar Imam, English Lecturer at Dairy and Food Polytechnic College Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was attended by the Head of Department, faculty members and students.

Gender Hierarchies through Education in Pakistan:HSS department organized a guest lecture on “Gender Hierarchies through Education in Pakistan”. Guest Speaker was Dr. Hazir Ullah, Associate Professor at International Islamic University, Islamabad. It was attended by Head of Department, faculty members and students, arranged in LT-2 on 24th April 2017.

Law Department

Guest Lecture for Students of BU of Law Department:Dr Warda Yaseen visited department of law to deliver a lecture on 29th March 2017. She is a PhD in Corporate law and currently heads Law department of International Islamic University (female campus), Islamabad. The topic of her lecture was “Legal Personality: Single Entity and Groups”. Students of LLM and LLB participated in the lecture and benefited from this important topic. The lecture was followed by questions from students that Dr Warda satisfactorily responded.

Guest Lecture for Students of BU of Law Department:Ms. Tauba Sahaab, student of LLB-3 won an award and is appointed as International Ambassador to Poetry by Italian Government in an award ceremony that was held in Italy. Award was received by embassy counsellor Ata ul Munim shahid on her behalf. On 25th April, 2017, the award was delivered to her by Director-Europe at Foreign office, Islamabad in a ceremony organized at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Bahria University at Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, Washington DC: Mr. Sami Ur Rahman (Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, Bahria University Islamabad was invited as part of the judging committee for the 2017 International Rounds of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, held in Washington D.C. from April 9 th to 15th, 2017. This year, the Jessup Competition had engaged students from over 640 law schools in 95 jurisdictions around the world, making the Jessup Competition by far the largest moot court in the world. More than a competition, the Jessup is a community of legal professionals, young and old, who build bonds and share an individual cultural and academic exchange. Now in its 58th year, the Jessup has a rich history and a longstanding commitment to promoting the importance of the rule of law in the peaceful resolution of disputes. The first round of the competition, 58 years ago, was held at Harvard University on May 8, 1960.

Sharing the experiences, Mr. Sami added that it was the richest mooting experience throughout his career as this was the largest on the face of earth. Mooting is a passion for most of the students whom he met during the competitions. He further said that the Judges who were invited from different countries were of excellent caliber. Their grasp on International Law was amazing. While setting in the bench as a judge, he said he learnt a lot from the experiences of International Lawyers.

Mr. Sami was accompanied by Mr. Dilawar Khan, who is a lawyer by training and a visiting faculty at the Department of Law, Bahria University along-with Ms. Sahar Haroon, who is an alumni of Department of Law, Bahria University Islamabad and is currently working as a Research Associate at the Research Society of International Law Islamabad. It was for the first time that Judges from Pakistan were invited to Judge the International Rounds of Jessup Moot Court Competition in the past 58 years of the competition.

Before joining the judge’s panel in International Rounds, Mr. Sami participated as a judge in the national rounds of Jessup Moot Court Competition held in February 2017 in Islamabad.

Mr. Sami reiterated that the passion in Pakistani law schools is lacking. He was enthusiastic about bringing a great change in the minds of law schools and the law students to create space for mooting. This would help the law students and schools to shine in such prestigious competitions.

Guest Lecture Through Skype:On 7th March, 2017, Bahria University Islamabad Campus held a guest lecture in the Dr.Abdus Salam Presentation Hall on 'Cyber Security Challenges for Smart Cities: Users, Service Providers and Regulators' through Skype. The guest lecture was organized by Law Department (BUIC) and was spearheaded and hosted by senior Assistant professor Dr. Nadia Khadam. The guest speaker was Dr.Zeeshan Pervez, he earned his doctorate degree in computer science from Kyung Hee University, South Korea and currently teaches at the University of West Scotland, Scotland as an Assistant Professor. Lecture was arranged for LLB-9 and LLB-10 who are studying Consumer Protection Laws and E-commerce laws respectively. An hour long lecture was then followed by a question and answer session.

Guest Lecture:Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi visited Bahria University, Islamabad to deliver lecture on International law on 28th April, 2016. The lecture was arranged by Ms. Saadia Zahoor and was attended by faculty members and students of LLB-7 and LLB-8 (Public International Law I & II). The lecture was held at Lt-2, and former Pro-Rector Bahria University Rear Admiral Saleem Akhtar presented shield and thanked the Honourable guest. Mr. Ahmed Ali Khan also spoke on this occasion.

Child Protection Officer visited Department of Law:A delegation of UNICEF comprising of Barrister Sarah Coleman, Child Protection Chief Pakistan and Mr. Muhammad Zahoor, Child Protection Officer visited Department of Law, Bahria University Islamabad. During the visit the delegation met with the HOD Law, Ms. Malieka Farah Deeba and the Director Campus Mr. Syed Hassan Mustafa. The delegation discussed the issues of the mutual interest. The meeting was convened by Mr. Sami Ur Rahman, Senior Lecturer in Law.

Electrical Engineering Department

DC Servo Motor Training:

A two day Training on DC Servo Motor Trainer was held on 23rd and 25th March, 2017 at Controls Lab, Iqbal block in Bahria University Islamabad Campus. Faculty Members of Electrical Engineering department attended the training session which was conducted by two personnel from MS Intermark. The training was conducted on the newly purchased DC Servo Trainers which can be operated using LABVIEW based software compatible with MATLAB and SIMULINK.

Cooperate Advisory Committee Meeting:The 4th Cooperate Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting of Electrical Engineering Department Islamabad Campus was held on 19th April, 2017 in Video Conference room New Campus Building. The meeting was attended by industrial personal from NESCOM, EMTEL, NTDC, and TEMA Corporation. The agenda of this meeting is to bridge the gap between academia and industry. It is decided in the meeting to promote properly the internship positions throughout the department and more guest lectures should be arranged in the department to facilitate the students with practical knowledge. In addition the university should arrange more academic tours in different industries relevant to their field of study. It is further decided that in cooperation with the industry, big projects should be split up into multiple smaller chunks and then given as research project to Faculty members of the department.

Seminar:Seminar on “Design of a Non-isolated single Phase Online UPS Topology with Parallel Battery Bank for Low power Application” held in Controls Lab on 13th April, 2017 presented by Dr. Muhammad Aamir. Dr. Muhammad Aamir is an Assistant Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering at Islamabad Campus. Seminar was mainly focused on design of a UPS system which will achieve high efficiency (more than 90%) for less number of batteries.

Seminar:Seminar on “Internet of Things” held in Controls Lab on 20th April, 2017 presented by Dr. Saleem Aslam. He is HOD of Electrical Engineering Department at Islamabad Campus. Seminar was mainly focused on importance of IoT’s and 5G technology. As the number of devices is increasing exponentially so IoT’s and 5G have quite significance in near future. Presenter also discusses about challenges and research opportunities in this field.

Student Support Centre

Anti-tobacco Seminar:Bahria University is running a campaign till May 31st

2017 to observe World No Tobacco Day. Tobacco is the single most preventable cause of illness and death around the world. Almost 6 million people die each year because of smoking tobacco. Passive smoking is equally damaging causing about six hundred thousand deaths each year. High incident of lung cancer and oral cancer is associated with smoking tobacco. To discourage smoking Bahria University has made its campus a smoke free zone. Bahria University Islamabad Campus organized an anti-tobacco seminar in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre on 10th April 2017. Capt (R) Dr. Kashifa Ehsan headed the seminar and educated the

students regarding the harmful effects of tobacco. Students and faculty actively participated in this event. Informative brochures were also distributed throughout the campus.

Bahria University Auto Mania:Bahria University conducted an auto show on 18th March 2017 at Islamabad campus. The event was called Bahria University Auto Mania. This event was Bahria University’s first car show within the campus where students and the faculty came together as car enthusiasts and witnessed one of the most diverse on campus car show ever. Participants joined the auto show and showcased the best of vintage, exotic luxury cars along with off-road jeeps and exotic bikes. Spectators from within the University and outside where able to witness an amazing galaxy of Automobiles. The event was open for all automobile enthusiasts from the twin cities where the attendants were more than expected at any such auto show. Honourable Rector Bahria University Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz HI (M) also graced the event with his presence and complimented the car participants of the show. Refreshments were later served to all participants and certificates of participation were also distributed among the present participants.

IST Youth Carnival:Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad hosted Youth Carnival to provide students from various universities an opportunity to compete in various competitions. IST, Islamabad hosted this event from 12th to 15th April 2017. A large number of students took part in this 4 day event where our students performed marvellously and stood prominent in every competition. Students of Bahria University, Islamabad represented the university in Dance, Futsal, Mime, Drama, Lawn Tennis, Photography, script writing, declamation and Singing competition.

Saood Malik, Junaid Ahmed and Asma Khalid won the Dance Competition, Osama Sohail (CS-5), surprised everyone with an outstanding performance in Lawn Tennis and emerged victorious. The Mime team

consisting of Ardon Josher Robert, Fawad Naseer, Dabeer Ali, Zubaria Rasool, Shaiza Rasool, Resfah Iris and Amsa Khalid were runner ups in the Mime Competition. Our singing icon Arsalan Bin Naseer (Runner up of Voice of Bahria- II) stunned the audience with his heart melting voice. He successfully bagged second position in the singing contest.

Mega Orientation Session:

A number of student run clubs and societies operate in Bahria University, Islamabad. These societies, after careful selection of students at the beginning of each semester, conduct orientation sessions. The purpose behind these sessions is to get the new members acquainted with the existing members and also to familiarize them to the working of the clubs. This time however, the music society and dramatics club collaborated and decided to hold their orientation session together for the first time. This mega orientation session was held in Ibn Khuldun Auditorium on 13th March 2017. The session began by introducing the hierarchy of the clubs to the new members along with a presentation and explained the purpose and vision of the clubs. After the presentation the existing members entertained the crowd with their amazing performances. Both the music society and dramatics club stunned the audience with their amazing talent. A number of bands and artists of the music society graced the staged whereas the dramatics club presented a theatrical play. The orientation session was also open for all students and was attended by a large number of audience.

AIRMUN:Air University, Islamabad hosted “Air Nexus 17” from 3rd to 5th March 2017. Students from various universities of Islamabad took part in this Olympiad participating in a variety of competitions. Students of Bahria University, Islamabad represented the university in volleyball, videography, and Model United Nations with all their might. Suleiman Mehmood and Syed Shayan Khalid (BSS) were the runner ups in the videography category whereas Bahria University Islamabad’s girls’ volleyball team emerged victorious, beating 7 teams in the tournament, with a winning cash price of 7 thousand rupees. The team members include; Zubaria Rasool, Laraib Malik, Marriam Majid, Nawehya Bukhari, Tehreem Arif, Shaiza Rasool and Rida Arif.

The boys’ volleyball team on the other hand were the runner ups out of the 15 teams which took part in this event. They won a cash price of 10 thousand rupees. The team members include; Hamza Haneef, Sikandar Hayat, Khubab Khan, Umer Nazir, Ali Butt, Zareef Sahil, Zeeshan Ali.

The Model United Nations team were exceptional and surprised their competitors with their amazing performances in various committees representing North Korea. Laraib Zehra and Aleezah Shahid had an Honorary Mentions whereas Simran Shoaib and Abdul Rehman Baig were given Best Delegate Awards.

Sound Slosh:Sound Slosh was organized by the students of College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) during their annual EME Olympiad. It was a musical extravaganza where various bands from the twin cities

performed on the 1st day of the Olympiad. EME invited, “ZERBIDING” which is a band of four amazing musicians who belong to Gilgit-Baltistan and are currently studying in Bahria University, Islamabad Campus. Their rich folk music is irresistible and keeps the audience on their feet.

Saifullah Beg, who belongs to the magnificent valley of Hunza, takes the lead on the Rubab. He has been playing music since childhood due to his interest in the rich cultural music of Gilgit-Baltistan. Moreover he has had his music training under a very famous Burushaski musician and performer. He has also shared the stage with the famous instrumental band “Khumariyaan”, where he showed his magic on Flute.

Moiz Ali is the backbone of this musical group as he is the one controlling the groove on the Djambe. Hailing from the mesmerizing valley of Gulmit, Moiz has been playing the drums with the local parade band and has solid grip and knowledge of the drums. He undoubtedly keeps the audience on their feet.

Uloomi Karim, hailing from Shimshal valley is the supplementing Rubab player as he is the most experienced in the group in terms of being associated with music. The former bassist of a famous underground rock band of Islamabad, ‘DissBelief’, had left the band to pursue his career in the field of Mixed Martial Arts but could not stay away from folk music.

Akeel Ashumat, belonging from the beautiful valley of Baltistan, is the man on mic and the guitarist of the group. He is quite famous in Baltistan as the vocalist of "Twos the Band" along with his twin brother. With a versatile voice and choice of music, Akeel has made an impact in the underground music.

NaSCon:NaSCon is one of the biggest events that is organized annually by FAST National University, Islamabad campus. This event comprises of Different Computer Science, Engineering and Business competitions. This year again various team from Islamabad Campus represented Bahria University at NaSCon. Teams from all over the country participate in these competitions and show their mettle. Apart from the educational and technical events, there were a lot of entertainment events held so that participants and visitors could enjoy the event to the core.

Like always our volleyball teams (Male & Female) stunned their competitors with their amazing performance. Male team emerged victorious whereas the female team were the runner ups in the event.

Management Sciences Department

Multidisciplinary PhD Research Conference

Management Sciences Department, Bahria University Islamabad Campus arranged the first National Multidisciplinary PhD Research Conference on 18th -19th April’ 2017. The conference was organized by Dr. Taqadus Bashir and Dr. Farrukh Jaleel under the supervision of H.O.D Management Sciences and the conference Chair Dr. Ali Saeed. Research areas for the conference included Management, Human Resource, Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Economics, Project Management, Disaster Management, Waste Management, knowledge Management, Behavioural Sciences, Entrepreneurship, Sociology, Anthropology, Technology Management, Environment Management, Education, Engineering Management and other relevant fields.

The aim of the conference was to gather professionals from the corporate sector and seasoned academicians to share and discuss new research paradigms. The conference also aimed to encourage PhD scholars, Faculty members and students from various fields to participate in research endeavours.

It brought together esteemed Academicians; Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector Islamic International University Islamabad, Rear Admiral (R) Shahid Saeed HI(M), Pro Rector Bahira University, Dr. Najam-ul-Islam, Dean Engineering Sciences, along with Vice President, Muslim Commercial Bank, Mr. Zahid Hussain honored

the opening ceremony with their presence and addresses to the audience.

The Conference was organized, having various parallel sessions. Day one included sessions on Management, Human Resource, Project Management and Finance. Session Chairs and Co-Chairs were invited from different Universities and sessions were convened by Bahria University’s faculty members. Day two included sessions on Human Resource, Project Management, Marketing and Finance. The sessions were provided great insight to avenues of research along with the suggestions and appreciation from the session chairs and audience.A discussant Resolution session was held in the VLC, Chaired by Honorable Prof. Dr. Javed Ashraf, Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad. In the Resolution Session the Respected Academicians who evaluated, commented and gave suggestions on research papers from various streams consisting of faculty from BU and other renowned universities. Discussion on future agendas was carried out including Line of action for future Conferences, Knowledge Economy: Sharing and Improvement, Industrial outreach, Social Integration and Identification of stakeholders and Networking.The conference was declared closed by Commodore (R) Hassan Mustafa SI(M), Director Campus, Bahria University Islamabad campus. Honourable guests, Prof. Dr. Javed Ashraf, Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University, Prof. Aman Ullah, Dean Management Sciences Ripah International University and Dr. Faisal Aftab, Director ORIC, Bahria University were presented shields as a token of gratitude. The presenters in each session were also given shields and certificates for their Participation. The success of the conference has proved that this is just the start of the era where faculty and students show interest in Research to widen their learning and teaching horizons.

Fixed Income Investment and Trading Certification Course:The Fixed Income Investment and Trading Certification Course was conducted by the USAID & Financial Market Development Activity (FMD) and Institute of Financial Markets of Pakistan (IFMP) at Bahria University, Islamabad on 9th March’ 2017. Faculty members from the Department of Management Sciences attended the course as participants.With its emphasis on developing practical skills for trading, investment and risk management, the training aimed at building upon the existing knowledge of the fixed income markets to give participants the skills to compete in the global marketplace. It developed a broad and in-depth knowledge of the key fixed income instruments and markets. Throughout the training there were many exercises which tested and assessed the participants’ knowledge, examining scenarios which will equip participants with practical skills in their day-to-day business activity. The training aimed at enlightening the faculty about how to invest and trade in fixed investments. Such activities not only are a source of exposure but also provide a platform to enhance the skills and abilities. One of the core objectives of the course was to enable faculty members to develop frameworks needed to

successfully analyse and manage investments and trading and to help them design interventions that drive their investments to success.

Debate Competition: Individualism vs Collectivism:The use of debating to deal with complex ideas and competing advocacy is emerging as a successful educational tool. While long recognized as an important part of government affairs, academic deliberations, negotiations, philosophy and citizenship, Faculty members at the department of Management Sciences also believe in its significance. Ms. Gul-e-Nayab, faculty member at the Department Sciences arranged a debating competition among the students of Masters of Business Administration on the 24th of March’ 2017. The event was designed keeping in view the purpose of using debates as a form of communication which can train students in critical thinking and creativity in ways which will be important for their success in the information age today. The students debated their opposing views on Individualism vs Collectivism. The event was also honored by DG Campus Mr. Shahid Saeed, Cdr. Ikram Khokhar and Cdr. Shahid Nawaz as judges, while faculty members also attended the event to boost the morale of the students in the competition.

Recognizing &Shaping Opportunities in the Entrepreneurial World:

Ms. Madiha Pervez, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management at NUST Business School was invited at Bahria University, Islamabad by Ms. Amna Yameen to deliver a seminar on Recognizing & Shaping Opportunities in the Entrepreneurial World on

27thMarch’ 2017.Ms. Pervez, has strong business analytical skills to assess internal innovation process through market research, identify solutions, develop capabilities and implement technology. She has a special focus on innovation and new product development.Through her session, she helped students understand that how savvy entrepreneurs have an eye for realizing an idea and have the ability to capitalize upon it in a timely fashion. The session

also emphasized importance of product-customer fit in successful ventures. The examples encompassed both corporate members (intrapreneurs) and venture creators (entrepreneurs).

Seminar on Role of Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan:Mr. Murtaza, Director SECP, was invited to Bahria University Islamabad on 31ST March’ 2017, to deliver a seminar on the Role of Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. Accounting and Finance Cluster faculty members; Ms.Saher Zeast, Mr.Osman Bin Saif, Mr.Abdullah Hafeez and Ms.Nida Aman helped make the event successful by encouraging the students to attend and participate in the seminar in order to enhance their knowledge and link their theoretical concepts to Practical Knowledge. The seminar clarified that The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is the financial regulatory agency in Pakistan whose objective is to develop a modern and efficient corporate sector and a capital market based on sound regulatory principles, in order to encourage investment and foster economic growth and prosperity in Pakistan.

Flip Class Teaching and Managing methods:

A workshop on the Flip Class Teaching and Managing methods was conducted on the 6thofApril’2017 at Bahria University Islamabad Campus via the Video Link Conference. The

workshop was designed for all the faculty members teaching flipped classrooms. Mr. Zahid Majeed Senior Assistant Professor and Cluster Head (HR) at the department of Management Sciences conducted the workshop. Dean MS including a large number of faculty members from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad campuses attended the presentation. The main goal of this session was to put forth the type of activities one can conduct using a flipped methodology. It also reinforced that a flipped classroom is to enhance student learning and achievement by reversing the traditional model of a classroom, focusing class time on student understanding rather than on lecture. This allows class time to be devoted to expanding on and mastering the material through collaborative learning exercises, projects, and discussions.

The Importance of CPEC Projects:

The strategic ties between Pakistan and China have been on an upward trajectory with moved thrust on economic interaction after the initiation of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. CPEC is a revolution in the field of economics. This multi-dimensional project has opened Pakistan’s rebalancing options from geopolitics to geo-economics.

However, in Pakistan, the significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is poorly understood. To make the students understand the dynamics of CPEC, under the Supervision of Mr. Zahid Majeed, Senior Assistant Professor, at the department of Management sciences the Project Management classes were taken to Planning Commission of Pakistan on 14thof April. The visit included a presentation on Importance of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects for Pakistan.

Capt (R) Hassan Daud, speaker for the session, is Deputy Director CPEC who is dealing with projects under CPEC. His detailed presentation facilitated the students to understand the importance of project for Pakistan being undertaken in the umbrella of CPEC. Question answer session clarified queries of students.

Seminar on The Importance of Human Resource Management in the corporate world

Mr. Hassan Raza (Executive Director), Honda Centre, Islamabad was invited as a guest speaker for a seminar on the Importance of Human Resource Management in the corporate world on 20th April’ 2017. This Guest Speaker session assuredly gave insight and practical knowledge on the subject to the students of HRM and their interaction with the corporate experts would definitely inspire them towards success. The main focus is to bridge the gap between what the students learn in classrooms and what is really practiced in the corporate world. Apart from the professional knowledge, the students also learn official

correspondence and the file work while processing the entire case for getting approval through the competent authorities.

Start-up talks for Entrepreneurship:

Entrepreneurial ventures, if successful, their innovations may improve our standard of living. In short, in addition to creating wealth from their entrepreneurial ventures, they also create jobs and the conditions for a prosperous society. The following are six reasons why entrepreneurs are important to the economy Mr. Salman Ali Khan, Cluster Head (Marketing), took the students of the Management sciences department to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on the 19th of April’ 2017. The purpose of the session was to encourage the students in the field of entrepreneurship through learning from experienced personnel, interaction, idea generation and collaboration. The session focused on Entrepreneurship talks primarily on How to start your business efficiently. These sessions allow students to engage in brain storming activities that involve idea generation and innovative thinking.

Seminar on “DREAM MANAGEMENT”:

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For while knowledge defines all we currently know and understand, imagination points to all us might yet discover and create”. Dreams is different dimension to be viewed from new approach. It is a proposed mechanism for developing thinking process and cognitive function emulous to popular business life-cycles.

Taking "Dreaming" as a new management paradigm and its role in human, business and social development is of increasing concern. Human Resources Forum Islamabad Chapter organized a seminar on “DREAM MANAGEMENT”

Taking Dreaming as a new management paradigm and its role in human, business and social development on 30th March 2017 at NIBAF, Islamabad. The seminar was attended by Mr. Zahid Majeed, Senior Assistant Professor and Cluster Head (HR) along with the students of the management sciences department. The seminar was conducted by Mr. AdilKazi a seasoned industry veteran, who has served in multiple senior executive management positions and challenging cross-functional leadership roles in PTCL and Ministry of Science and Technology.

Furthermore, he has more than 16 years of teaching experience as faculty at renowned universities, presently serving as AP/Professor of Practice at FAST-NU, Islamabad. Mr. Kazi has also been a consultant to number of national & multinational organizations as an ERP/ Business Information Systems and Management professional.
