Con tan sólo 20 años Ilaria empieza en el mundo laboral y se dedica a viajar y trabajar como diseñadora de moda en todos aquellos lugares donde le era posible. Una joven promesa que muchos podían envidiar… pero Ilaria, Ankla, comenzaba a darse cuenta de que su vida seguía otros ritmos.Así, en un viaje a Sri Lanka, isla de la que quedó enamora-da, se dio cuenta de lo que verdaderamente quería hacer en la vida: vivir cerca de la naturaleza, surfear y dibujar… lejos del estrés de las grandes ciudades. Allí, surfeando, conoció al fotógrafo Mauro Ladu, que le habló de Fuerteventura con tal intensidad que pronto la arrastró hasta nuestra Isla, donde a día de hoy ha creado su hogar, su taller y su estilo de vida. Una línea delicada, muy femenina, pero siempre con un toque que rompe, marca casi toda la obra de Ankla. Being just 20 Ilaria started to work and devoted herself to travelling and working as fashion designer wherever it was possible. A young promise that many people could envy... but Ilaria, Ankla, began to realise that her life was following other paces.So, in one trip to Sri Lanka, an island she fell in love with, she realised what she really wanted to do in her life: to live close to nature, surf and draw... far from the big cities.Surfing there she met the photographer Mauro Ladu, who talked to her about Fuerteventura with such an excitement that he attracted her to our island, where nowadays she has her home, her studio and her life style. A very delicate line, very feminine, but always with a daring touch that marks Ankla’s whole wok. Her trips around the world, mainly to India, and a very special relationship with the sea, spin the background of her art. Nowadays she draws paintings, prints her works on t-shirts, many of them painted by hand, makes designs for tattoos, surf boards... and her nearest dream is to illustrate a fairy tale book.

`El Flaco´Nació hace 30 años en Puerto del Rosario, muy cerca del Matorral, pueblo donde se crió a la orilla del Atlántico. Entre juegos en el mar iba creciendo este chiqui-llo, más a lo alto que a lo ancho, lo que le valió el apodo de «El flaco». Con los amigos pasaba todo el tiempo que podía, rondando por la playa, por los callaos, y en definitiva en el agua, hasta que un día por fin descubrió el deslizamiento entre las espumas con un «chicle» (bodyboard sin fibra).

No le hizo falta demasiado tiempo para darse cuenta de que le gustaba esa sensa-ción: cada vez más horas comiendo salitre y esperando, desesperado, a que apare-ciesen ondulaciones en la caprichosa cos-ta este. Esto no pasó desapercibido para su madre, que después de ver que no se cansaba de ir con su corchito a la playa, día sí día también, y pedir incansable un bb de verdad, cuando tenía doce años le regaló, yo creo que por no escucharlo más, un Gennesis «Winner». Aún recuer-da el modelo emocionado, consciente del esfuerzo económico que supuso para ella, pues son 5 hermanos y perdió a su padre cuando tenía sólo 4 años.Con aquel tesoro fabricado en Gran Canaria se le abrió un nuevo mundo de posibilidades. Podía empezar a po-nerse, primero de rodillas, luego poco a poco a torero y, al final, para sorpresa de Miguelo —un amigo que estaba em-pezando a surfear—, ¡se ponía de pie! Éste no dudó en convencerle de que probase la tabla, y desde que la probó ya no ha vuelto a bajarse. Aunque en aquella época era un poco distinto; con quince años y en el Matorral, moverse a surfear era muy complicado, no se podían llevar tablas en las guaguas y era totalmente dependiente de los ca-prichos del Atlántico y de los surfistas

mayores, que de vez en cuando le acer-caban a surfear a otras zonas de la isla. Con 17 años, debido a la frustración de las largas esperas porque llegasen olas al este, la imposibilidad de moverse y los conflictos típicos de esta difícil etapa de la vida, dejó de lado su gran pasión y se dejó ir por la senda de la fiesta. Durante un año las olas pasaron a ser lo menos importante y otras inquietudes ocupa-ron su tiempo, pero al cumplir 18 algo lo cambió todo. Al sacar el carnet de conducir y, de repente, darse cuenta de que ya tenía libertad para moverse por todos los rincones de la isla y descubrir las joyas que esconden las bajas y las playas, se reafirmó aquello que había sentido en la playa del Matorral al des-lizarse por primera vez con el «chicle»: esto era lo suyo, era lo que le gustaba hacer y en el agua se sentía mejor que en ningún otro sitio. Así que el surf se convirtió en el centro de su vida y empe-zó a realizar los primeros viajes de surf, primero entre las islas y poco a poco más lejos, hasta que con 27 años pudo realizar el viaje de sus sueños: se fue dos meses a Bali, solo, con la mochila y la tabla de surf debajo del brazo, sin saber idiomas y con el dinero escondido en salvada sea la parte. Esta experiencia le abrió mucho la mente y pudo surfear

olas con las que había soñado desde que era un chiquillaje; pero el sueño estuvo a punto de tornarse pesadilla cuando, mientras se estaba haciendo un giro en la playa de Kuta, vio cómo la rodilla se le salía del sitio. De repente estaba su-bido en su moto de alquiler con un balinés que dejaba atrás la ciudad por un sendero entre los matorrales, mientras le gritaba: «¡Nada de ir al hospital, allí están todos locos!». A toda pastilla, esquivando ramas llegaron hasta una cabaña donde una anciana con unos inciensos le iba a atender. No se podía creer dónde estaba metido, quizás era una pesadi-lla, pero lo cierto es que después de unos masajes con unos ungüentos salió de allí caminando y pudo seguir surfeando durante los 20 días que le quedaban de viaje. La vuelta de esta aventura fue lo peor, al poco de llegar, su tocada rodilla no aguantó más la presión y acabó por romperse del todo; luego el calvario de las operaciones y sus consiguientes recuperaciones, en total casi ocho meses sin coger olas. Pero ahora ya se le ve de nuevo, solo, como siempre acompañado de su fiel perro, recorriendo cada rin-cón de la isla, que no cambiaría por nada del mundo, en busca de una ola que destrozar. Le gusta mucho surfear en Fuerteventura por la calidad, cantidad y potencia de sus olas, pero en los últimos años se queja de que cada vez más a menudo en el agua se cruza con gente afincada en la isla que, porque no le conocen y le ven cara de buena gente, no le respetan en el agua y tiene que enfadarse para ponerlos en su lugar. Es una lástima que baños buenos sean estro-peados por estos incidentes y es que señores: UN RESPETO PARA TODOS FUERA Y DENTRO DEL AGUA.

He was born 30 years ago in Puerto del Rosario, very near El Matorral, a village where he was brought up at the Atlantic shore. This kid was growing up while playing in the sea, in height rather than in width, and this is why

he came to be known as «El flaco». He spent as long as he could with his friends, hanging around the beach, the pebbles, in one words, the water, until one day he found out gliding on the foam with a «chicle» (body board with no fiberglass). He didn’t need a long time to realised he liked that feeling: he started to spend longer and longer «eating salt» and looking desperately for waves to appear in the whimsical Eastern coast. This wasn’t unnoticed by her mother, who after realising he didn’t get tired of going with his little cork to the beach, day after day, untiringly asking for a real bodyboard, gave him a Gennesis «Winner» when he was 12. He still remembers the model with excitement, aware of the financial effort that meant to her, as they were five siblings and they lost their father when he was 4.

With that treasure made in Gran Canaria a new world of possibilities opened in front of him. He could first kneel, then pop up little by little, and in the end, to Miguelo’s surprise — a friend who was beginning to surf—, he

who was leaving the city behind him along a path full of brushwood while shouting: Don’t even mention going to hospital, everybody is crazy there! Full throttle, dodging branches, they got to a hut where an old lady would treat him with incense. He couldn’t believe where he had got into, maybe it was a nightmare, but the truth is that after some massage with ointment he got out of there on his own feet and he could go on surfing the 20 remaining days. The coming back from this adventure was the worst part: a few days later his knee couldn’t stand the pressure any longer and it ended up breaking; then the torment of operations and subsequent recoveries, summing up, a total of eight moths without catching a wave. But now we can already see him again on his own, accompanied by his faithful dog as always, going through every spot in the island, which he wouldn’t exchange for anything in the world, looking for a wave to smash. He likes surfing in Fuerteventura very much, because of the quality, quantity and power of its waves, but in the last years he complains that more often than not he finds in the water people who are settled in the island and that, not knowing him and realising he looks like a nice person, don’t respect him in the water and he has to get angry to put them in their place. It’s a pity that enjoyable surf sessions be spoilt by this kind of incidences. Sirs: RESPECT FOR EVERYONE, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE WATER.

could stand up! He didn’t hesitate to convince him to try the board, and from that moment he hasn’t left it any more. However it was a little bit different at those times: being 15 years old and living in El Matorral, moving to surf was very complicated: boards were not allowed on buses and he was totally dependent on the Atlantic whims and older surfers who from time to time ave him a lift to surf in other areas in the island. At the age of 17 he got frustrated by long waits for the waves to get to the East, the impossibility to move and the typical conflicts at that stage of our life, so he left his great passion and started partying. For a year waves became the least important thing for him and he was moved by other interests, but when he turned 18 everything changed: he got his driving license and suddenly, feeling free to move around every spot in the island and find out the jewels hidden by the lows and the beaches he reaffirmed what he had felt on El Matorral when he glided on the foam for the first time with a «chicle»: this was what he liked doing and he felt in the water better than anywhere else. So surf became the axis of his life and his first surfing trips started, first within the islands and little by little further away, until at the age of 27 he could make the trip of his dreams: two months in Bali, carrying only his backpack and surfboard with him, not being able to speak any languages and with the money hidden in «God saves this part». This experience opened his mind a lot, and he could surf waves he had dreamt of since he was a child, but the dream was about to turn a nightmare when making a turn in Kuta beach he could see one of his knees coming out of its place. El premio del público al mejor fotógrafo 2012 fue para Ser-gio García, un cántabro que habitualmente, y desde hace ya unos años, aparece por nuestra Isla en cuanto puede escaparse para calzarse las cholas en pleno invierno, surfear y fotografiar las delicias de nuestras olas, sobre todo las del norte de la Isla, y a los surferos que las montan.Sergio lleva toda la vida en la playa, surfeando desde muy pequeño, primero con un paipo y luego con una tabla; el

surfing es su deporte favorito desde que tiene uso de razón.Hace unos 8 años cayó en sus manos una carcasa para la cámara y le hipnotizó sacar fotos desde dentro del agua. Desde ese día no ha dejado de disparar. Actualmente, lo que empezó como una afición es su profesión, por supues-to, ya no surfea tanto, ahora tiene que trabajar y cuando hay buenas olas prefiere disfrutar de ellas sacando fotos.Aunque no sólo hace fotografía de surf, es donde ha empe-

LAST MARCH ACTION PIRZES 2012 WERE AWARDED TO THE BEST RIDERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS AND FREESTYLE FILMERS IN SPAIN.

The audience prize to the best photographer 2012 was for Sergio García, a Cantabrian who has been visiting our island for some years as often as he has been able to escape to wear his flip-flops in the middle of the winter, surf and photograph our wonderful waves, mainly those in the North of the island, and the surfers riding them. Sergio has been all his life near the beach, surfing from a very early age, first on a paipo and then on a surfboard. Surfing has been his favourite sport as far back as he can remember. Some 8 years ago a camera water case fell into his hands and he got fascinated by the idea of taking photographs inside the water. From that day he has not stopped shooting pictures. Nowadays, that which began as a hobby has become his profession. Of course now he cannot surf that often. He must work, and when waves are nice he prefers to enjoy them by shooting pictures. Though he doesn’t only make surf photographs this is where he started off, the kind of photograph to which he devotes most of his

La biblioteca de Corralejo y su proyecto «Al mal tiempo... ¡más biblioteca!», coordinado por Selena Chacón y basado en la creatividad e imaginación en períodos de recesión, ha recibido el premio Nacional de animación a la lectura «María Moliner», otorgado por el Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deportes. Fuerteventura enjoys an exceptional sky for professional astrophysical observation, or for the enjoyment and delight of our visitors, due to the different geographical and climatological factors only found in this privileged land. We are near the Equator, which allows the observation of the whole Northern Hemisphere, as well as the Southern one. It is also located far away from the tropical storms, which favours a clean and defined observation. Springtime in May brings with it two astronomic events you can’t miss, look at the sky! :Between the 4th and 5th, the meteor shower «Eta Aquarids»— dust particles from Halley comet— will strike our firmament at a rate of 10 meteors per hour, after midnight. It will be a promising light show! And just a few weeks later, the 28th, look towards the East at dusk. You’ll be able to watch a planetary conjunction between Venus and Jupiter. Mercado de lasTradiciones en La Oliva

El pasado mes de marzo se inauguró uno de los inmuebles pertenecientes a La Casa de Los Coroneles, de La Oliva, que había estado en restauración durante unos 19 años, para albergar a día de hoy un Mercado de las Tra-diciones, donde más de 25 artesanos podrán vender sus productos, todos los martes y los jueves, con el fin de potenciar los frutos de la tierra y la artesanía tradicional canaria.

Last March one of the buildings belonging to La Casa de Los Coroneles, La Oliva, was inaugurated. It had been under restoration for 19 years, and nowadays it houses a Market of Traditions where more than 25 artisans will be able to sell their products every Tuesday and Thursday, aiming to promote the fruits of this land and the traditional Canarian Craftsmanship.

Escuela Municipalde Surf de CorralejoA partir del próximo mes de Junio, el Ayunta-miento de La Oliva pondrá en marcha, dentro de su oferta deportiva, la nueva Escuela Mu-nicipal de Surf. La perrera municipal está situada en el mismo pueblo de La Oliva, a escasos metros del Ayuntamiento. Ahí van a parar muchos de los perros abandonados o perdidos del municipio.

Cuando un perro entra en una perrera, ya sea porque ha sido encontrado en la calle o porque su propio dueño no lo quiere, se le asigna una jaula, con comida y agua, de la cual no saldrá hasta su último día. Dispone de un plazo de 3 semanas para ser reclamado o para encontrar una nueva fa-milia. Pasado este tiempo el animal será sacrificado por ley. Fuerteventura Dog Rescue es una asociación sin ánimo de lucro que pretende cambiar esta cruda realidad en la medi-da de lo posible. Lo que empezó con un pequeño grupo de voluntarias, creció hasta dar paso a dicha asociación. Ellos hacen todo lo que está a su alcance para mantener a los pe-rros sanos y desparasitados, sacarlos a pasear, mimarlos y, lo más importante, encontrarles un nuevo hogar. Han logrando salvar unos cuantos de la lista del sacrificio (Kymbo, enviado a Gran Canaria; Maya, enviada a Barcelona; Ayko, enviada a Bélgica y otros que han sido adoptados en la Isla y por Euro-pa) pero, por desgracia, no siempre acaba con final feliz. Sin la colaboración de los ciudadanos como voluntarios o socios, así como sus donativos y los de las empresas locales, sería muy difícil llevar a cabo este trabajo. Por suerte, cada vez son más las personas que se animan a ayudar y cuentan con un Ayuntamiento cada vez más dispuesto a colaborar. The municipal dogs’ home is located in La Oliva itself, very near the Town Council. Lots of abandoned or stray dogs in this municipality end up there.

When a dog enters a dogs’ home, either because they have been found in the street or because its master doesn’t want it any more, it is allocated a cage with food and water where it will stay until the last day. They are given three weeks to either be claimed or find a new home. After these three weeks the animal will be sacrificed by law.Fuerteventura Dog Rescue is a non-profit association that aims to change this grim reality as far as possible. That which began as a small group of volunteers grew until it became this association. They do their best to keep healthy dogs: worm, walk, pamper them and, the most important thing, find a new home for them. They have managed to save some of them from being sacrificed (Kymbo was sent to Gran Canaria, Maya was sent to Barcelona, Ayko was sent to Belgium, and some others have been adopted within the island or in Europe, but unfortunately there is not always a happy ending. Without the co-operation of citizens like volunteers or members, as well as their donations and those from local companies, it would be very difficult to carry out this task. Luckily the number of people ready to help is growing, and the town council is becoming more and more willing to co-operate too. Fuerteventura Dog Rescue counts on the special cooperation by Inma (a 24hour door to door vet) and the Veterinary surgery in Lajares to keep the dogs as healthy as possible in the dogs’ home. The dogs’ home opens its doors every Thursday from 8 to 11 a.m where the attendants will be able to enjoy the company of these furry pets, and any kind of donation will be welcome (leashes, collars, pipettes, feed for puppies, toys, etc). If you are interested in adopting a dog you can go directly to the Town Council in La Oliva, from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m to 14:00 p.m. The dog is handed over already vaccinated against rabies, with microchip and sanitary card, which costs 30€. I’d like to remind you that the microchip and vaccination campaign is starting in May (during this campaign the cost to adopt a dog will be of 22€). Get informed about the most convenient dates and places in the Town Council, or just visit their web page www.laoliva.es. With this initiative and in these times there in no excuse not to keep our dogs up to date. From Macaronesia, we praise the work by this group of volunteers that disinterestedly devote their time and love to these little furry animals and succeed in changing the sad fate they have been determined by other men. torio Veterinario Lajares, que son los que mantienen a los perros sanos en la perrera.La perrera abre sus puertas todos los jueves de 8 a 11h. de la mañana, donde los asistentes podrán pasar un buen rato en compañía de los peludos y todo tipo de aportación será bienvenida (correas, collares, pipetas, pienso para ca-chorros, juguetes, golosinas, etc.). Si estáis interesados en adoptar un perro podéis acudir directamente al Ayuntamiento de La Oliva, de lunes a viernes, de 8:30 a 14:00h. El perro se entrega vacunado contra la rabia, con microchip y cartilla sanitaria, lo cual conlleva un coste de 30€. Me gustaría recordar que en mayo empieza la campaña de microchip y vacunación (y durante dicha campaña, el cos-te para adoptar un perro de la perrera será de 22€). Podéis informaros de las fechas y lugar que mejor os convenga en el Ayuntamiento o visitando su página www.laoliva.es. Con esta iniciativa y en los tiempos que corren no hay excusa para no mantener a nuestro perro al día. Me parecen muy bien las iniciativas que surgen para limpiar las playas en esta Isla, pero creo que sería tam-bién muy efectivo que cada uno de nosotros hiciéramos una pequeña limpieza cada vez que vayamos a la playa. Basta con que frecuentemente recojamos un poquito de la basura que nos encontramos y todo se verá mu-cho mejor.

Vivo en Puerto del Rosario y desde que inauguraron el nuevo «malecón» de Playa Chica cada vez hay más y más pescadores que se pasan el día entero pescando hacia la misma playa. Incluso pescan desde la orilla y la Policía Lo-cal pasa por allí y no les dice nada. Me parece algo grave, ya que es una playa donde van muchos chicos adoles-centes por las tardes, niños con sus padres o cualquier persona a nadar, porque no tiene tanto oleaje como otras playas, y no sé si el Ayuntamiento está esperando a que alguien vaya con un anzuelo clavado para poner solución. No sé ni siquiera si tengo razón para la queja o si está permitida la pesca en las «playas urbanas», pero cualquier día ocurrirá un accidente y luego todo serán lamentos.

I live in Puerto del Rosario, and from the day the new pier was inaugurated you find more and more fishermen in Playa Chica who spend there the whole day fishing, facing the beach. They even fish from the shore, and the local police pass through and don’t say anything. I think this is serious, as this is a beach where lots of teenagers spend their afternoons as well as children with their parents or other people who go there for a bath, as there aren’t so many waves as on other beaches, and it seems the Town Council is waiting for someone to get a stuck fish hook before looking for a solution. I don’t know if I am right to complain or if fishing is allowed on urban beaches, but one day an accident will happen and then we will all regret it.

Esta es una historia basada en hechos reales (por/by Miguel TORRENTE)Ella es una gata de colores marrón y negro. Llevaba un tiem-po viviendo en su casa de Corralejo, le gustaba, era feliz allí. El cambio de circunstancias hizo que su dueña o, me-jor dicho, compañera de viaje se cambiase de casa, decidió mudarse de Corralejo al apacible Lajares; cogió sus cosas, el cestito para gatos y metió a su gatita dentro. Ella estaba un poco recelosa, pues ya conocía eso que llamamos mudanza, seguro pensó: «ya estamos otra vez cambiando de lugar...». Aquella mañana viajó en un furgón completamente cerra-do, parecía como si fuese un preso peligroso que no puede ubicar hacia dónde lo trasladan. Al cabo de un rato cono-ció su nuevo destino, una casita con patio; allí podía salir y cazar lagartijas, conocer otros gatos del lugar y tener algún encuentro, relamerse bajo la luz de las estrellas y la luna llena, esa que le dio su nombre, pero... había algo que no era de su agrado, algo pasaba; así que decidió fugarse. Desapareció durante una semana sin dejar rastro, su dueña-compañera sintió que alguien se la había llevado o que algún coche la atropelló o que estaba envenenada... Muchas conjeturas y sólo una era cierta, por lo que sólo cabía buscarla con fe de que apareciera.Sonó el teléfono: —¿Qué dices?, voy para allí ahora—. Su amiga que ahora ocupaba la antigua casa de Corralejo fue la que le dio la noticia: —Tu gatita está aquí, en mi casa—. No lo podían creer, allí estaba, con más apetito de lo normal. Se había ido de Lajares a Corralejo solita sin conocer el camino recorrido por el furgón en aquella mañana, y dio en el clavo, allí estaba en su antigua casa, reclamando a su modo las ganas de quedarse allí, o a lo mejor reclamando la posibilidad de no ser subestimada, o quizás esperaba haber recibido una charla de su compañera avisándola de que se iban y no marcharse de aquella manera. Sólo lo sabremos cuando hablemos gatunil. Nadie había contado con su opinión, si le hubiesen comentado algo diría: «miau», y es que Lluna es una gatita con carácter. Así pues, no debemos subestimar a nuestros compañeros ani-males, pueden llegar a hacer cosas que nosotros no haríamos. La verdad que hay que recordar que es importante tenerlos en cuenta y, sobre todo, contar con sus opiniones, ya saben, tie-nen su propio carácter y de vez en cuando consentirles cositas está bien; también saber escucharlos, verán como siempre tie-nen hambre... Es broma, quiero decir que siempre acabamos interpretando que un «miau» es comida y no siempre es así. Comprender cuáles son sus necesidades, vernos a nosotros en ellos, miau, miau...

Miguel Poveda en Fuerteventura

Miguel Ángel Poveda León, nacido en Barcelona en 1973 y criado en Badalona, empieza a cantar a los 15 años en el entorno de las peñas flamen-cas de Cataluña. En 1993 inicia su carrera como profesional, tras ganar cuatro premios: premio Lámpara Minera (el más preciado del mundo fla-menco) y tres premios más en las modalidades de La Soleá, La Cartagenera y La Malagueña, en el entonces Festival Nacional del Cante de las Minas de la Unión (Murcia), donde a modo de homenaje tiene una calle con su nombre.Su discografía, hasta hoy, la componen 9 discos. El último de ellos, «arteSano», obtuvo el disco de oro tan sólo una semana después de su lanzamiento. MP: La emoción, sobre todo, y ser aficionado, amar lo que haces más que a ti mismo.M: ¿Mejor las letras propias o interpretar las letras de otros? MP: Preferiría letras mías si estuvieran a la altu-ra de las que me gustan, pero al final te haces tanto con las historias que cantas que, aunque sean de otros, las haces un poco tuyas.M: ¿A qué canta principalmente el flamenco que interpretas? Miguel Ángel Poveda León, born in Barcelona in 1973 and brought up in Badalona, started singing when he was 15 in the flamenco clubs in Cataluña. In 1993 he began his career as a professional after being awarded four prizes: the Lámpara Minera (the most valuable prize in the flamenco world) and three more prizes in the modalities of La Soleá, La Cartagenera and La Malageña, in the then «Festival Nacional de Cante de las Minas de la Unión» (Murcia), where there is a street with his name as a homage paid to him. His discography, up to date, is made up of 9 records. The last one, «arteSano», was awarded the golden record just a week after its launch.

Macaronesia: What tempted you being so young to spend so long listening to older people singing flamenco? Miguel Poveda: Those so exiting and different voices and the spirit that went beyond the recording, the sound of the guitar...M: Which qualities must a good flamenco singer have? MP: Mainly emotion, being enthusiastic and love what you

are doing more than yourself.M: Do you prefer singing your own lyrics or those written by others? MP: I’d rather sing mine own, if they were as good as the ones I like, but in the end you get on so much with the stories you are singing that although they have been written by others you make them a little yours as well. M: Which topics does the flamenco you are singing deal with? MP: Everything, sadness, tragedy, love in every way, and of course happiness and festivities, everything dealing with human beings and life...M: Which topics do you prefer? MP: Love, heartbreak...M: How does a non-gipsy get along with success in a gipsy art? Have you been fully accepted? MP: I don’t think there are races in art. Art belongs to the human being and the whole world, and I have never intended to be accepted but by myself, with my virtues and faults.M: Any performances you remember in a special way... MP: I remember a lot of them in these 25 years, but the

first day I performed on a stage I could understand how difficult and, at the same time, exciting this would be. M: Who would you like to sing with? Who would you sing with again? MP: I will sing again with Mariza in my concert in Las Ventas, on June 21st, and I am really excited because I adore her, professionally as well as personally. M: And on another subject, what do you think about the situation we have been going through for some years? What would be your magic proposal to get out of it? MP: I wish I had the solution! It should rain sensitivity to clean so much recklessness coming from some of our politicians.
