    a) RETAIL CHAIN :

    Chain stores are retail outlets that share a brand and

    central management, and usually have standardized

    business methods and practices.

    books, stationary, magazines, newspaper,entertainment products, etc.

    Largest retain chain store Wal Mart.

    b) INDEPENDENT RETAILER :

    An independent retailer is one who builds his/her

    business from the ground up. From the business

    planning stage to opening day, the independent retail

    owner does it all.

    He/she may hire consultants, staff and others to

    assist in the business endeavor. The opportunities areendless. E.g. pan, bidi shop.

    c) Franchising :Franchisingis the practice of using another firm's successful

    business model.

    The franchisor is a supplier who allows an operator, or a franchisee,

    to use the supplier's trademark and distribute the supplier's goods.

    In return, the operator pays the supplier a fee.

    India is one of the biggest franchising markets because of its large

    middle-class of 300 million who are not reticent about spending and

    because the population is entrepreneurial in character.

    super market

    - A large store that sells a variety of food and household

    items to customers.- low cost, low margin, high volume, self service operation

    which serves total needs for food, laundry, household

    product, etc. E.g. - hypercity (malad)

    Convenience store

    - small stores located near residential area, open for long

    hours, operates seven days a week, carry limited line ofhigh turnover and has slightly higher prices.

    1. Departmental store The concept of a departmental store first originated in France.

    These are large retail store, offer wide variety of products under one

    roof separated by different departments.

    It has several departments, which are classified and organized

    accordingly. Departments are made as per different types of goods tobe sold. E.g. Big Bazaar, Benzer, Globus

    2. Discount store These store offers its items at a lower price than many other

    retail stores.

    Discount stores are often able to drop their prices due to efficient

    distribution methods.

    specialized types of items.These stores focus on selling a particular brand, or a particular type

    of item.
