Foreword

Dear Member Exporters, I have pleasure in presenting you the report on CHEMEXCIL’s participation in CHEMSPEC EUROPE 2014 Exhibition held at HungExpo Budapest Fair Center, Budapest, Hungary on 18th & 19th June 2014.

CHEMSPEC Europe is a large-scale international event which was organized by a British company called quartz chemicals and featured over 400 international exhibitors from several countries including the UK, Germany, China, India and Japan, etc. This being a prestigious event, the Exhibitors and visitors alike covered the whole spectrum of fine and speciality chemicals from sectors such as agrochemicals, biotechnology, coatings, cosmetics and personal care ingredients, electronic chemicals, dyestuffs and colours, biocides, surfactants water treatment, pharmaceuticals and many more.

India’s relations with Hungary have been close and friendly, multifaceted and substantive. As the fourth largest economy and among the fastest growing markets and an emerging IT power, India is an important partner for Hungary in Asia. With Budapest ideally located to join Eastern and Western Europe, this was an excellent opportunity to make new contacts from both sides of the continent and also expand the volume of trade considerably in the coming years.

In view of the importance of this region as a growing market for chemical Products, the Council’s participation in the above event was very significant. The Council deputed Mr. S.G. Bharadi, Acting Executive Director to organise the Council’s participation in the above exhibition.

The Council organised an India Pavilion showcasing 35 member-exporters who took active part in the exhibition. The list of visitors along with the addresses and enquiries generated during the exhibition are furnished in this report.

I would request all of you to make full use of this report which I hope will benefit you in developing the export market for your company’s products in Hungary. With kind regards, Satish W. Wagh Chairman - Chemexcil

OVERVIEW OF THE EVENT

This year CHEMSPEC EUROPE which is one of the biggest fine and speciality chemicals event was held at Hungexpo Budapest Fair Center, Budapest, Hungary on 18th & 19th June 2014. CHEMSPEC is the leading exhibition for international fine and specialty chemical industry focusing on the ‘global application of organic chemistry’. CHEMSPEC EUROPE is the leading European fine and speciality chemicals event in the annual calendar. Over 400 exhibitors displayed their products, technologies and services. Exhibitors and visitors alike covered the whole spectrum of fine and speciality chemicals from sectors such as agrochemicals, biotechnology, coatings, cosmetics and personal care ingredients, electronic chemicals, dyestuffs and colours, biocides, surfactants water treatment, pharmaceuticals etc.. Hungary’s chemicals industry has experienced dynamic growth in the last few years with CAGR measured at over 8% during the period 2007-2011, having recorded revenue values of some $11.2 billion in 2011. In the fine and speciality chemicals segment, Hungary has strong production and processing capabilities in such sectors as pharmaceutical, cosmetics, detergents, pesticides, polymers and coatings and water treatment. Significant domestic players such as Tiszai Vegyi, Borsodchemie and Pannoplast share the production space with multinational brands such as Henkel in an industry sector which Hungary views as a strong growth area for the next 5 years. Hungary’s accession to the EU in 2005 led to a wide-ranging development of its chemical production processes, based on significant capital investment and new technology application. The implementation of REACH regulations, beginning in 2007, has also led to an improvement in standards within the industry which leave it well positioned for further export growth in the future. Its central location within the Eastern Europe quadrant provide Hungary with direct access to many neighbouring countries, both east and west and underline its strategic importance to the overall European chemicals industry. . India’s relations with Hungary have been close and friendly, multifaceted and substantive. Decades of Indo-Hungarian economic interaction further sustained the relationship as India became Hungary’s biggest Asian trading partner. India is also seen as a country whose ancient culture and spiritual traditions and the academic and scientific excellence specially in the “knowledge sector” is deeply attractive to ordinary Hungarians. As the fourth largest economy and among the fastest growing markets and an emerging IT power, India is an important partner for Hungary in Asia. In the recent years, economic relations between the two countries have been hoisted to a higher level of importance. The Council had participated in the above exhibition and organized India pavilion which was beautifully designed and also gave facility of meeting space to Indian participants to discuss with their counterparts. Under the umbrella of CHEMEXCIL, 35 member-exporters took active part in the said exhibition. On 18th June 2014, His Excellency Mr. Malay Mishra, Ambassador of India inaugurated the Indian exhibition by ceremoniously cutting the ribbon at the India Pavilion. The large-scale international event which was organized by a British company called quartz chemicals, featured over 400 international exhibitors from several countries including the UK, Germany,

China, India and Japan, etc. His Excellency also visited `the stalls of Indian Participants and also gave suggestions on how to enter Hungarian market and promote exports. He also assured the participants, full assistance from Embassy of India and advised them to contact Mr. Das, Second Secretary, in case they need any information. He informed that he has already written a letter to all chemical associations requesting them to visit the Exhibition and also exchanged company profiles of all the participants. Further, he shared that in Hungary, there are large number of chemical companies and interested Indian exporters may take their contact details from Mr. Das, Second Secretary.

The list of participants is given as annexure to this report. The Council had specially prepared an Exhibition Catalogue for this exhibition incorporating major achievements and latest developments by the Indian Chemical Industry and also the company profiles of participants as well as those who took part by displaying their catalogues. The Exhibition Catalogues both in hard & soft format were distributed freely amongst the visitors during this Exhibition. The list of visitors along with the addresses and enquiries generated at the above exhibition are given in this report. This year CHEMSPEC Europe had called up prominent buyers of Chemicals from around the world as their invitees. Country Brief – Hungary

Both countries commemorated the 50th year of establishment of diplomatic relations in 1998. The visit of PM Gyurcsany to India in January 2008 took place during the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. Decades of Indo-Hungarian economic interaction further sustained the relationship as India became Hungary’s biggest Asian trading partner and Hungary had 25 joint ventures in India in the 1980s.

Intense and fruitful scientific and technological interactions created further value. All of this added up to tremendous political goodwill. Hungarian political leaders have often underlined recognition of India, her prestige and stature and a natural affinity towards the country and its people on the part of the Hungarian constituencies. Sometimes, there is spontaneous outpouring of pro-Indian sentiments on the part of Hungarians which nudges the Government to take action. Hungarian PM’s Visit to India The Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany visited India from 16-19 January 2008 covering Delhi, Agra and Bangalore. Co-operation in this field was institutionalized in 1949 with the signing of a Rupee Trade Agreement which operated through the negotiation of annual protocols which fixed the products to be traded and the amounts thereof, with the trade being canalized through government agencies. The major items of export from India before 1990 were tea, tobacco, pepper and other spices, de-oiled cakes, finished leather and shoe uppers, iron ore and pellets, cotton and jute goods, engineering goods, Maruti vehicles, chemicals and chemical products. Imports from Hungary included steel and steel products, chemicals, machine tools, pulses, peas, newsprint and engineering goods, especially for railways and power projects. Over 25 collaborations had also been established in India by Hungarian companies. Indeed trade has far surpassed the levels of the 1980’s and now stands at around USD 700 million. Bilateral Trade India’s trade with Hungary has been increasing steadily. Bilateral Trade (in USD Million)
