READINGS FOR TODAY First Reading: Isaiah 58:7-10
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 Gospel: Matthew 5:13-16
LECTURAS DE HOY Primera Lectura: Isaías 58, 7-10
Segunda Lectura: 1 Corintios 2, 1-5 Evangelio: Mateo 5, 13-16
How can we be salt and light of the earth to others? We answer this question when we share in Christ's ministry as priest, prophet, and king. As priest, Christ offered a sacrifice of love to the Father. What sacrifices of love do we offer? We can offer our marriage, single life, and work, along with our prayers and suffering to God. We can offer them anytime, but the best time is at Mass, when we offer ourselves with Christ to the Father. As prophet, Christ proclaimed the Good News. Like His Son, God calls us to evangelize others by word and example. We witness most effectively when others see the differ-ence Christ has made in our lives. The credibility of our witness lies in our ability to allow Him to work in our lives. Finally, as king, Christ became servant to all through His self-giving. Like Christ, God calls us to give of ourselves to others. He calls us to serve in our parishes so they can grow and become vibrant. He calls us to integrate our faith into our daily lives. Therefore, we make a difference when we offer ourselves to God, when we proclaim the Good News in word and example, and when we serve others. God calls us to worship, to wit-ness, and to give.
¿Cómo podemos ser sal y luz de la tierra? Respondemos esta pregunta cuando compartimos el ministerio de Cristo como sacerdote, profeta y rey. Como sacerdote, Cristo ofreció un sacrificio de amor. ¿Qué sacrifi-
cios de amor ofrecemos? Podemos ofrecer nuestro matrimonio, soltería y trabajo, junto con nuestras oraciones y sufrimiento a Dios.
Podríamos hacerlo en cualquier momento, pero el mejor momento es durante la Misa, cuando nos ofrecemos con Cristo al Padre. Como
profeta, al igual que su Hijo, Dios nos llama a evangelizar a otros con palabras y ejemplos. Presenciamos con mayor eficacia cuando otros
ven la diferencia que Cristo ha hecho en nuestras vidas. La credibilidad de nuestro testimonio esta en nuestra capacidad para permitirle trabajar en nuestras vidas. Finalmente, como rey, Cristo se hizo
servidor de todos. Como Cristo, Dios nos llama a darnos a nosotros mismos. Nos llama a servir en nuestras parroquias para que puedan
crecer. Él nos llama a integrar nuestra fe en nuestra vida. Por lo tanto, hacemos una diferencia cuando nos ofrecemos a Dios, cuando proclamamos la Buena Nueva en palabra y ejemplo, y cuando
servimos a otros. Dios nos llama a dar culto y testimonio, y a servir.
