Dear Parents/Carers,
The Recepon team would like to share with you our main aspects of learning for this half
term, so that you can connue to support your child at home. We hope with your help, the
children will be able to achieve the objecves we plan for them.
Mathemacs
We are learning that anything can be count-
ed including objects, steps or claps. We are
learning about esmaon by guessing how
many objects there are rst before counng
them all to check. We are learning how to
represent numbers using our ngers. We
will be making marks on paper to represent
numbers and drawing pictures.
Communicaon and Language and Literacy
We are learning to link leer names with
their sounds. We hope most children will
begin to write leers independently and
start to use their phonic knowledge of leer
sounds in their wring. We are encouraging
them to think about what they want to
write rst before having a try. We are
learning about non-con texts and using
them to nd out informaon.
Personal, Social and Emoonal
Development
We will be revising rules this half term.
You could support your child by talking
about appropriate behaviour and why we
have rules. Some of the rules we will be
working on are:
remember to take turns and share
use an indoor voice in the classroom
walk dont run when inside the school.
Physical Development
We are pracsing our skills when using small
sports equipment. This will include hoops,
balls, beanbags, skipping ropes and quoits.
We will be learning how to show increasing
control such as throwing, rolling and bounc-

Expressive Arts and Design
We will be exploring sounds that dierent
instruments make. We will be changing
sounds by making them loud, quiet, fast,
low. We will be supporng children to use
their imaginaon in art work, dance, small
world and role play linked
to our topics.
Cooking
Your child will be cooking throughout the
year in various curriculum areas. If you have
not already done so, we would like to ask
you to make a voluntary contribuon of 1
towards the cost of
purchasing resources. Please
give the donaon to your
childs class teacher.
Understanding the World
This half term we will be exploring new
programmes linked to our class topics. We
will use programmes to nd out and learn
that informaon can be retrieved from
computers. Later in the half term we will be
nding out about Chinese New Year and
how it is celebrated around the world.
It would also be helpful if you ..
make me to share a book with your
child every day;
help your child to learn her/his key
words by playing games such as, pairs,
snap, looking for the words in books,
displaying them around your home
We hope some of these ideas will be helpful to you. If you have any quesons, queries or
concerns we are always willing to talk them through with you. If we are unable to answer
your queson immediately, we are always willing to make an appointment for a more suita-
ble me.
Thank you for your support on behalf of the Recepon Team
