GREENWICH MEALS ON WHEELS

Volunteer Drivers Needed

There is a need for drivers to deliver meals to seniors who are homebound. They are so grateful to be able to receive nutritious meals and also to see a friendly face. Devoting one hour a week would help us greatly. Please contact Lynne Stewart, Director of Operations, at 203-869-1312.

NEW COVENANT HOUSE SOUP KITCHEN

Good news! We fed about 100 guests a lovely meal of chicken, rice, mixed veggies, bread and desserts last Sunday.

Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers: Michael Anostario, Mary Rose and Victoria Henning, Joanne Sabato, Larry Rabin, Susan Skalandunas and Barbara Weltz. Thank you also to those who donated the food for us to cook – we can’t do this without you. Finally, thank you once again to DiMare Pastry Shop for their donation of dessert items.

Every Sunday, a team of St. Catherine’s volunteers provides a meal and serves it at New Covenant House of Hospitality in Stamford. If you are interested in volunteering with one of our teams, please contact Kathy DiGiovanna at [email protected].

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS(RCIA)

Periodically we receive inquires from baptized Christians who are interested in entering the full communion of the Catholic Church or who would like to know what the requirements are to become a Catholic. We also have requests from unbaptized persons who would like to be baptized. If you, a member of your family, or a friend fits in one of these categories, please contact Deacon Renato Berzolla at 203-912-5777 for additional information.

ST CATHERINE’S SUPPORT CIRCLE SEEKS TWO NEW TEAM MEMBERS

The St. Catherine’s Support Circle was formed in early 2009 to support people seeking jobs in the then-challenging economic environment. The group continues to encourage participation by both job seekers and those interested in providing their advice and support.

The SCSC steering committee includes professionals who have experience in such diverse areas as human resources, executive search, career coaching, general management, education, marketing, public relations, finance, accounting and IT.

At this time, we are seeking to recruit two additional members to join our SCSC steering committee team:

1. An individual with current or recent previous experience in Human Resources or Recruiting, who has an understanding of (a) the skills needed by job seekers, and/or (b) the needs of companies seeking to hire new talent in the current environment.

2. A Social Media aficionado who can assist the SCSC in developing a social media strategy to help communicate our services to the community. (Intern level position, a great potential opportunity for a high school or local college student who wishes to make an important community service contribution while expanding his or her professional network).

If you have appropriate experience, and would be interested in learning more about these roles as well as the opportunity to join a group of dedicated professionals on the committee, please contact SCSC Chairman Bob Sloane at [email protected]

Thanks, The SCSC Steering Committee

What does an Altar Server do?

The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the cele-bration of the liturgy and to be an example to the congregation by actively participating in the liturgy. Servers carry the cross and the processional candles, hold the book for the priest celebrant when

.

10. You learn things that you didn't know that you didn't know.

9. You really learn what it means to "walk HUMBLY with God."

8. You get to believe like a child again. 7. You gain the sense of being part of both the present and

future of the Church. 6. The coffee they serve in the office is heavenly! 5. Preparing lessons opens your heart and gives God an

opportunity to teach you. 4. You may meet one person in eternity who is there because

God used your words. 3. Sharing our faith and love for Jesus and his Church with

kids is the best kind of show and tell. 2. You can honestly say you are on the eternal pay plan, you

know storing up treasures in heaven.

and the number one reason to be a Catechist is . . . 1. Personal satisfaction of sharing God’s “Good News” with

our children.

Jesus said: "Let the children come to me." May God move the hearts of His People that they respond to His call so that, we all may have the right people in the right places in our programs. Please Consider Becoming A Catechist! (Training is provided) Teach the Lord’s Word to our children. The Lord will stand with you and show you the way.

Catechists are needed in all grades 1-8. Please think and pray about sharing your faith with our children and teach religious education to grades 1 -8 for the upcoming year 2016-2017.

If you have questions about teaching about our faith, you can call Janis Pataky or Deacon Lou Howe at the Faith Formation office at 203-637-3661 x329 or 328. Or email: [email protected] or [email protected].

“Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must

be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

Gospel Reflection – Luke 12:32-48 One way Christians can prove that they are a people of faith is to live every day as though they expect Jesus to return. Today's gospel urges us to be awake and on the watch like servants awaiting the master's return home. We should be "on guard" against anyone or anything that leads us astray from Christ. Since no one knows when the final judgment will happen, the wise person will always be prepared for it. Question of the Week: What “possessions” distract people from the treasure of faith? Family Discussion Questions for the Gospel: If you read this Gospel again carefully, you will discover that Jesus is comparing himself to a thief! Just as we would "watch out" for a thief, so we must "watch out" for the coming of the Lord. One saint said of Jesus, "He steals our hearts!" However, we must be clear: Jesus always respects our freedom. We can say yes or no when he comes. The question is: When Jesus comes, will you want to keep your door closed, or open it up wide? Are you going to wait until the end of time to welcome Jesus, or can you begin today? How?

If you have any thoughts or questions about todays Gospel, or any questions about your faith, or simply to let me know your reading these discussions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] I’d love to hear from you.
