Chapter 1

Introduction This chapter provides an overview for managing ETX-102/201/202 using the RADview-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 management solution. It introduces the graphical user interface. It is assumed that you are familiar with basic RADview-EMS/NGN operations. For more information about basic RADview-EMS/NGN operations, refer to the RADview-EMS/NGN (PC) or (UNIX) User's Manual.

Overview of the RADview FCAPS Model

System Level Operations.

1.1 Overview of ETX-102/201/202

ETX-102/201/202 have similar functionality, where each provide a demarcation point between the private LAN and the operator’s network. However, they differ in their physical interfaces:

• ETX-102 is a Fast Ethernet network-termination unit (FE-NTU) with any of the following combinations of up to six Ethernet ports:

Two fiber optic or copper (SFP-based) Fast Ethernet network ports and up to four fiber optic or copper Fast Ethernet user ports.

One fiber optic or copper (SFP-based) Fast Ethernet network port and up to five fiber optic or copper Fast Ethernet user ports.

• ETX-201 is a Gigabit Ethernet network-termination unit (GbE/FE-NTU) with any of the following combinations of up to six Ethernet ports:

Two fiber optic or copper (SFP-based) Gigabit Ethernet network ports and up to four fiber optic or copper Fast Ethernet user ports.

One fiber optic or copper (SFP-based) Gigabit Ethernet network port and up to five fiber optic or copper Fast Ethernet user ports.

• ETX-202 is a Gigabit Ethernet network-termination unit (GbE-NTU) with two fiber optic or copper (SFP-based) Gigabit Ethernet network ports and up to four fiber optic or copper Gigabit Ethernet user ports.

The network ports support link aggregation according to IEEE 802.3ad requirements. The user ports accept traffic, providing different port-based services. At the physical level, ETX-102/201/202 supports autonegotiation, flow control and fault propagation. The unit can be managed via a local terminal port, or via one of its Ethernet ports (inband or out-of-band management). ETX-102/201/202 includes a DHCP client utility that obtains the IP address, IP mask and default gateway values, and defines a network manager automatically.

1.2 RV-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 Overview

This chapter explains the steps required to get the RADview-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 management system for ETX-102/201/202 version 3.6 up and running. It describes the graphical user interface, configurations, security and fault management. Specific tasks possible with RADview-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 are dealt with in the subsequent chapters in this manual. All the configurations and management support in this manual are tasks that can be performed with RADview.

The RADview-EMS/NGN management system for ETX-102/201/202 provides you with all the tools necessary to monitor the performance and configure the device parameters for its local and remote devices.

The RADview-EMS/NGN management system for ETX-102/201/202 units is accessed in two levels:

• System Level

• Port Level:

NET-ETH

NET/USER-ETH

USER-ETH port.

Overview of the RADview FCAPS Model

RADview provides a complete management solution for monitoring and controlling the RV-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 system. The RADview solutions conform to ITU-T Telecommunication Management Network (TMN) recommendations for SNMP management systems, known as the FCAPS model:

• Fault management – detects and correlates fault in network devices, isolates faults, and initiates recovery actions.

• Configuration management – tracks configuration changes, and configures, installs, and distributes software and configuration files across the network.

• Accounting management – collects accounting data and generates network usage reports.

• Performance management – continuously monitors network performance (QoS, CoS) and resource allocation.

• Security management – controls and restricts access to network resources.

2.1 Network Management Options ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 have a local management subsystem that controls the operation of all of its circuits. The subsystem supports various management interfaces, including inband and out-of-band SNMP management (for example, RADview), Telnet, and local management via an ASCII terminal or a Web browser. RADview management software is typically used to support large networks.

Some parameters, such as the Operation Mode, CANNOT be changed from within RADview, since they are read only parameters. However, you can use the built-in management menu-driven interface of the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 to configure the operational mode. The configuration menus are accessible from a serial connection to the device control port or using the Telnet protocol via a connection to the Ethernet LAN port. For complete information about managing ETX-102/201/202 using the terminal, see the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 Installation and Operation Manual.

• Changing the Operation Mode erases some parameters, such as the Ethernet host IP, and disconnects any remote management sessions.

• Changing the Ethernet host IP address disconnects any remote management sessions. For RADview management, you would have to add the new managed element (host) IP address to the EMS or SNMPc map.

RADview management software is used for managing large networks. RADview uses SNMP messages to manage ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202. ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 can be managed by a network management station (NMS) via of the unit Ethernet ports. The connection can be made either from a local LAN, or from a remote location, via a PSN connected to one of the ETX Ethernet ports.

2.2 Pre-configuring ETX-102/201/202 for Network Management

ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 can be managed by a network management station which is located on the LAN connected to the one of the unit’s Ethernet ports.

To remotely administer ETX-102/201/202 via a Network Management Station (NMS), it is necessary to first configure the basic ETX-102/201/202 parameters via an ASCII terminal command line interface (CLI) session to the ETX-102/201/202 Control Port. The following steps are required:

1. Connect a terminal to the control port.

2. Configure the host parameters.

3. Configure the management access.

4. Add a Network Management Station (NMS).

5. Configure the SNMP communities.

Connecting a Terminal to the Control Port

In order to configure the basic IP parameters, it is necessary to connect an ASCII terminal to the ETX-102/201/202 control port and log in.

To configure the ETX-102/201/202 system parameters:

1. Configure an ASCII terminal to:

One start bit

Eight data bits

No parity

One stop bit

No flow control

VT100 emulation.

2. Connect the terminal to the ETX-102/201/202 CONTROL port.

3. Press <Enter> several times (to allow ETX-102/201/202 to detect the rate).

4. Initiate the control session by entering the administrator user name and password.

Configuring the Host Parameters

ETX-102/201/202 allows entering IP parameters manually or using parameters acquired from the DHCP server.

To configure the Host parameters:

1. Display the Host menu (Configuration > System > Host).

2. Disable the DHCP client. Selecting DHCP Client and choose Disable.

ETX-102/201/202 releases the current IP address by sending the release message to the DHCP server, sets all host IP parameters to 0.0.0.0 and reboots itself automatically.

3. Select IP Address to define the host IP address

4. Select IP Mask to define the host IP mask.

5. Select Default Gateway to set the default gateway IP address

6. Select Default IP to enter a default IP address. Configuring a default IP address is necessary if you want to preserve a Telnet or HTTP connection to ETX-102/201/202 after having disabled its DHCP client.

The default gateway must be in the same subnet as the host.

Configuring the Management Access

ETX-102/201/202 allows you to enable access to the management system via an SNMP application.

To configure the Management Access:

• Display the Management Access menu (Configuration > System > Host), and set the SNMP access to Enable.

Adding a Network Management Station (NMS)

In order to remotely configure ETX-102/201/202, the NMS needs to be listed in the Manager List. NMS configuration defines the IP address of a new network management station (NMS), and the enterprise-specific traps that will be sent to the new network management station.

The maximum number of network management stations is 10. If this number is exceeded, you must delete an existing station.

Each NMS is automatically assigned an index number in the range of 1 to 10.

When you allow sending general and alarm traps to a network manager, you can mask or unmask each trap (general or interface-specific). See the following section.

To add a network management station:

1. From the Management menu (Configuration > System > Management), select Manager List.

The Management List menu appears (see Figure 2-3).

2. From the Management List menu, type a to add a management station.

The Management List menu display changes, entering the Add mode (see Figure 2-4).

3. When in Add mode, perform the following:

Select Manager IP, and enter the IP address of the management station.

Select Manager Trap Mask, and select Enable or Disable to mask or unmask traps for the selected management station.

Select SNMP Traps UDP Port and define a UDP port to be used for sending SNMP traps to the network manager.

Select Save All to save the network manager.

Press <Esc> to return to the Edit mode.

Configuring the SNMP Communities

ETX-102/201/202 allows you to specify the communities under which the ETX management agent accepts SNMP command.

To configure the authentication community:

1. Display the Host (Management) menu (Configuration >System >Management >Host), and configure the following parameters:

Read Community to enter the name of a community with read-only authorization.

Write Community to enter the name of a community with write authorization.

Trap Community to enter the name of a community to which ETX-102/201/202 sends traps.

2.3 Connecting ETX-102/201/202 to Network Management Stations

ETX-102/201/202 can be managed by a network management station (NMS) via of the unit Ethernet ports. The connection can be made either from a local LAN, or from a remote location, via a PSN connected to one of the ETX Ethernet ports.

Inband Management

RV-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 can be managed via SNMP by a Network Management Station (NMS) over one of unit’s SHDSL uplink ports.

To connect ETX-102/201/202 to the Network Management Station:

1. Verify that the management parameters are properly configured.

2. Connect one of the active ETX Ethernet ports to the PSN on which management traffic from an authorized NMS flows.

Out-of-Band Management

RV-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 can be managed via SNMP by a Network Management Station (NMS) on the LAN (hub or switch) connected to the one of the unit’s Ethernet ports.

To connect ETX-102/201/202 to the Network Management Station:

1. Connect the last user port to a port of an Ethernet switch or hub serving the network on which the appropriate NMS is attached.

2. Verify that the Bind parameter in the Host menu (Configuration > System > Host) (see Figure 2-1) is set to OOB.

2.4 Launching RV-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202

Begin using RADview-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 by launching the respective ETX-102/201/202 View window.

To launch the ETX-102/201/202 View window:

• On the map, select and double-click the ETX-102, ETX-201, or ETX-202 icon.

The respective ETX-102/201/202 View window opens. You can now perform configuration and monitoring functions in the entire ETX-102/201/202 system.

2.5 Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI)

From the ETX-102/201/202 View window, you can configure and monitor the entire ETX-102/201/202 system elements.)

ETX-102/201/202 View Window

The RADview-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 View window displays a dynamic graphical representation of the ETX-102/201/202 front and back panels. The view varies per ETX-102/201/202 and per number of ports in the device:

For the ETX-102/201:

• ETX-102/201 2 ports view comprises 2 ETH ports (1 NET and 1 USER).

• ETX-102/201 3 port view comprises 3 ETH ports (1 NET, 1 NET/USER, and 1 USER)

• ETX-102/201 5 ports view comprises 5 ETH ports (1 NET, 1 NET/USER, and 3 USER).

• ETX-102/201 6 ports view comprises 6 ETH ports (1 NET, 1 NET/USER, and 4 USER).

If the device has 3 or more ETH ports: the ETH 2 port's label (on the panel) is always "NET/USER" and you can select how to use this port (either as NET or as USER port).

If the device has 2 ETH ports: the ETH 2 port's label (on the panel) is always "USER". This label is both for the connector and for the respective LED.

For ETX-202:

• ETX-202 3 ports view comprises 3 ETH ports (2 NET and 1 USER).

• ETX-202 4 port view comprises 4 ETH ports (2 NET and 2 USER)

• ETX-202 6 ports view comprises 6 ETH ports (2 NET and 4 USER).

The view displays the front panel, which includes several LEDs indicating statuses of power, Ethernet links, and alarms, and the back panel, which includes AC/DC power connector, network and user Ethernet ports, and V.24 terminal connector.

The ETX-102/201/202 View window contains the following elements:

• Title bar

• Main menu bar

• Toolbar

• ETX-102/201/202 device (front and back panel views):

Front panel: includes several LEDs indicating statuses of power, Ethernet links, and alarms

The title bar (at the top of the View window) displays the name or IP address of the element given on the Network station (SNMPc or HPOV) and whether the device is connected or disconnected.

The main menu bar has drop-down sub-menus. Click a menu to display all the items in that menu. The menu items allow you to perform operations related to the selected elements in the ETX-102/201/202 system. The menus are context sensitive; menu items are enabled or disabled as applicable to the selected element.

In addition to using the menu bar, operations related to specific elements can also be performed using pop-up menus activated by right-clicking the mouse over the selected element.

Below the menu bar appears toolbar icons that allow you to perform specific ETX-102/201/202 operations related to the selected elements in the ETX-102/201/202 system with a single mouse-click. ETX-102/201/202 System

The main, central workspace of the View window is a dynamic graphical representation of the front and back panels of the ETX-102/201/202 device. In this workspace you can select the system or the network or user ports to invoke specific menu commands to perform activities, such as configuration and fault management.

Note that you can right-click the mouse over selected elements to invoke the relevant menu commands.

When you perform certain activities, such as clicking the System Information button, a dialog box is displayed (in a secondary window) on top of the ETX-102/201/202 View window.

Selecting the System

Before you can perform system operations, you must first select the system in the ETX-102/201/202 View window.

The network and user ports may be selected. All other areas that are not ports will represent the system and a frame around the panel will be displayed.

The default selection is the system.

To select the system:

• Click inside the ETX-102/201/202 View window. Ensure that no border surrounds any of the ports in the window.

A blue border outlines the respective ETX-102/201/202 device, indicating that the whole system is selected. (The main view includes the front and back panels of the device.)

The ETX-102/201/202 application opens with a specific IP address. The NMS discovers the device by recognizing the IP address it was designated.

Selecting Ports

Before you can perform port operations, you must first select a port in the ETX-102/201/202 View window (see Selecting the System on page 2-16 for available ETX-102/201/202 ports).

To select a port:

• In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, click a port to select it.

A blue border outlines the selected port, indicating it is selected.

The SFP connector looks different when an optic module exists.

If the connector type is SFP OUT, a message appears that that the SFP connector is not installed.

ETX-102/201/202 Indicators and LEDs

This section provides lists and color/status descriptions of the ETX-102/201/202 device LED indicators.

The ETX-102/201/202 View window uses the standard RAD color codes to indicate operational and communication status of the agent, ports, and power supply.

Port Status Indicators

Operational status for ports will be indicated by color within the port itself, based on polling and trap notifications of interfaces administrational/operational status. The port status is color-coded in gray, magenta, or light blue.

Table 2-4 lists and describes the port status colors.

There is no indication for the Control and Alarm ports.

The second port in ETX-102/201/202 may be one of the following:

• ETX-202 HW version > 3.0: Network port (always)

• ETX-102/201 with two ports: USER port (always)

• ETX-202 HW version < 3.0 or ETX-102/201: The usage of the second port can be configured to either a Network port or USER port; therefore its label will be NET/USER-ETH 2.

3.1 Configuring ETX for Network Management

RADview allows you to view and modify ETX-102/201/202 configuration. The Configuration menu provides access to system level configuration.

Configuring System Information

The System Info command enables you to view and set physical information about ETX-102/201/202.

To view and configure ETX-102/201/202 system information:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > System Info.

Setting System Date and Time

RADview allows you to set the date and time for the ETX-102/201/202 internal real-time clock. In addition, you can configure an SNTP server, to lock ETX-102, ETX-201 or ETX-202 to a reliable clock source. .

To set system date and time:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Date and Time.

4. To change the date, in the Date field, do one of the following:

Configuring NET/USER Usage

RADview allows you to view and configure the functionality of the NET/USER port (according to the last polling of the device) for ETX-102/201/202.

• For ETX-102/201, exists only if there are more than two network interfaces (regardless of their current state) present on the system

• For ETX-202, exists only for HW version < 3.0

To view and configure NET/USER usage:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > NET/USER Usage.

4. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

A confirmation message box appears displaying: “Changing the value will cause Reset of the device. After Reset, the device will return to Default Configuration.” Click <OK> to confirm and close the message box.

Configuring Link Protection

RADview allows you to view and configure link protection for the ETX-102/201/202 NET/USER ports.

ETX-102/201/202 uses two network link protection modes:

• LAG (Link Aggregation Group): Both network links are combined into one virtual group, but only one link transmits data at a time. If a failure occurs on the transmitting link, ETX-102/201/202 switches to the standby link in the group. In the LAG mode, the first link to be set with an “Up” administrative status becomes the active link of the group and starts data transmission. (And in the LAG mode, both network links receive data, but only one of them transmits.)

• 1:1: Both network ports operate independently, one of them is active, the other on standby. The traffic is automatically switched to the standby port in case the active network port or its link fails.

• For ETX-102/201 and ETX-202 HW version < 3.0: Protection option is disabled when the ETH 2 port is configured as a USER port.

• For ETX-202 HW version > 3.0: Protection option is enabled since ETH 2 port is always configured as a NET port.

Before configuring the link protection, make sure that both network ports have identical bridge port parameters (ingress filtering mode, port VID, and so on) and are the members of the same VLAN.

To view and configure link protection:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Protection.

3.2 Configuring Fault Propagation

RADview ETX-102/201/202 provides the network-to-user fault propagation mechanism. When the fault propagation is enabled, the user port shuts itself down when a link failure is detected at the network port.

To enable fault propagation:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Fault Propagation.

3.3 Configuring Bridge Settings

RADview allows you to configure bridge settings for ETX-102/201/202 ports.

The bridge operates in the VLAN-aware and VLAN-unaware modes. In the VLAN-aware mode, the bridge supports up to 64 VLANs. Learning and filtering can be enabled or disabled. Static MAC addresses are stored in the MAC table. The size of the MAC table is 8192 addresses. The ETX-202 bridge can handle frames up to 4096 bytes in size. Each bridge can be assigned to a VLAN.

The unit can append additional VLAN tag (provider VLAN) at the user port ingress and remove it at the network port ingress. The provider VLAN includes provider VID and priority (VLAN stacking).

Configuring Bridge Parameters

You can configure bridge parameters for ETX-102/201/202 ports.

To view and configure bridge parameters:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Bridge > Parameters.

Configuring Bridge Ports

You can view and configure ETX-102/201/202 (network and user) bridge ports. ETX-102/201/202 network bridge port supports filtering of incoming user traffic, accepting all frames or only those, which have VLAN tags. The untagged frames can be assigned PVID (port VID) and priority by the bridge port.

To view and configure bridge ports:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

To view and configure VLAN membership:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Bridge > VLAN Membership.

The VLAN Membership (Egress) dialog box opens with read-only fields.

If the last USER port is used as an OOB port, this port will not appear in the VLAN Membership (Egress) table and cannot be used as a Bridge Port.

3. To add a VLAN member, click <Add>.

4. To edit a VLAN member, select a row in the VLAN Membership table and click <Change>.

The Change VLAN Membership dialog box opens, displaying the same editable fields as the Add VLAN Membership dialog box (except for the VLAN ID field, which is read-only/disabled for changing).

6. To remove a row(s), select the relevant row(s) in the VLAN Membership table and click <Remove>.

VLANs used by an OAM flow as SP VLAN ID cannot be removed.

If the selected VLAN ID is the same as the Host VLAN ID, a warning message box appears displaying: “Removing VLAN ID may disconnect the agent” Click <OK> to remove the VLAN ID and close the message box.

7. Click <Apply> to implement the changes. (Up to 64 VLAN membership entries can be added to the table.)

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Bridge > MAC Table.

To remove static MAC addresses:

1. In the MAC Table, select the static MAC address(es) that you want to remove.

2. Click <Remove Static>.

A confirmation message box appears displaying: “Removing Static Entry(ies)”. Click <OK> to remove the static MAC addresses.

The static MAC address(es) is deleted from the MAC table.

To erase learned (dynamic) addresses from the MAC table:

1. In the MAC Table, click <Clear Learned> to erase all learned addresses from the MAC table.

A confirmation message box appears.

All learned MAC addresses are erased from the MAC table.

Configuring L2CP Handling

The Layer-2 control frames received by the devices can be tunneled across the network to the destination MAC addresses or discarded. The L2CP packet address range is 01-80-C2-00-00-00 to 01-80-C2-00-00-0F.

You can view and configure L2CP handling parameters per destination MAC address for ETX-202 bridge ports.

Relevant only for ETX-202 HW version > 3.6.

To view and configure L2CP handling parameters:

1. In the ETX-202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Bridge > L2CP Handling.

3.4 Configuring Quality of Service (QoS)

You can configure QoS classification, priority mapping, and rate limitation settings for the ETX-102/201/202 system.

ETX-102/201/202 provides three priority queues for each user port. The traffic can be classified and mapped into the priority queues according to the VLAN priority, DSCP, IP TOS or per port basis.

Configuring QoS Classification

You can configure QoS classification for ETX-102/201/202.

To configure QoS classification:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > QoS > Classification.

Configuring QoS Rate Limitation

You can configure QoS rate limitation for ETX-102/201/202, which supports data rate limitation at the egress and ingress of the network and user ports.

To configure QoS rate limitation:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > QoS > Rate Limitation.

The QoS Rate Limitation dialog box opens, displaying the Egress tab, by default. (If the Host works in Out of Band (ETX-202 only), then the last USER-ETH port will not be displayed.)

OAM (CFM) provisioning is relevant only for VLAN Mode Aware or for VLAN Mode Unaware where the Tag Handling is Stacking.

To configure OAM (CFM) parameters:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > OAM (CFM).

The OAM (CFM) dialog box opens, displaying two panes. The left pane displays a tree with the root, All Flows, for all defined flows, and nodes representing each defined flow. For ETX-102/201/202, each node has three leaves, where each leaf represents a service. The right pane displays information relevant to the selected item in the left pane. The command buttons displayed in the dialog vary per selected item in the left pane.

3. In the tree in the left pane, you can select the following:

All Flows to display all of the flows and add new flow.

A node (Flow) to display in the right pane the selected Flow and MEP details.

A leaf (Service) to display in the right pane the details of the selected service.

4. Proceed with the following procedures in the following subsections to view and configure OAM (CFM) flows and services. (For a description of the read-only service fields, see Table 3-15.)

Configuring OAM Flows

You can configure OAM (CFM) flow parameters.

To configure OAM (CFM) flow parameters:

1. In the OAM (CFM) dialog box, select the root <All Flows>.

The Flow Table appears in the right pane of the OAM (CFM) dialog box (see Figure 3-31).

The Add button is disabled when:

• VLAN mode is Aware and there are 16 entries

• VLAN mode is Unaware and Tag Handling is Stacking, all Stacking VID values (of all User ports) are already used as SP VLAN Ids of flows.

2. View the read-only the fields, as described in Table 3-14.

3. To delete a flow, in the Flow Table, select the relevant row to delete, and click <Remove>.

A confirmation message box appears displaying: “Flow <Flow No.> will be deleted”. Click <OK> to confirm the deletion.

The agent automatically deletes also the services of this flow. (It is not possible to remove a single service. The only way to remove services is by deleting the flow to which they belong.)

4. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

Adding an OAM Flow

You can add flows to the Flow Table.

To add a flow:

1. In the tree in the right pane of the OAM (CFM) dialog box, select the root <All Flows>.

Only up to 16 flows are supported. (If there are already 16 defined Flows, the <Add> button is disabled.) The Flow ID range can be 1..64. When adding a flow, it is added with its maximum number of services (with performance monitoring disabled).

4. In the SP VLAN ID field, click <…> to open the Select VLAN dialog box, where you can select the VLAN ID.

To view data of a single OAM flow:

Configuring Services

You can view and configure OAM (CFM) service parameters.

To view and configure service parameters:

Details of the selected service appear in the right pane of the OAM (CFM) dialog box.

• The Add button is disabled.

• The Change button allows you to open a dialog box for editing the selected Service.

• You cannot remove a single Service. The only way to remove Services is to delete the flow they belong to.

3.6 Resetting the System Hardware

RADview/TDM allows you to reset the ETX-102/201/202 hardware configuration. Resetting the system hardware resets the Agent.

Resetting the Agent

To reset the agent:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Reset > Reset HW.

A confirmation dialog box appears.

The agent’s hardware is reset.

Resetting the Configuration

RADview/TDM allows you to reset the ETX-102/201/202 parameters to default values.

To reset the configuration:

3.9 Polling the Agent

Polling the agent updates the ETX-102/201/202 device status. You can execute either manual or automatic polling of the ETX-102/201/202 system. Device components are automatically polled once every minute. However, you can also manually poll and update the status of the components.

To manually poll the agent components:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Poll Agent.

The components are polled and their status is updated immediately.

4.1 Configuring ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202

Management Methods

ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 have a local management subsystem that controls the operation of all of its circuits. The subsystem supports various management interfaces, including inband and out-of-band SNMP management (for example, RADview), Telnet, and local management via an ASCII terminal or a Web browser. RADview management software is typically used to support large networks.

Some parameters, such as the Operation Mode, CANNOT be changed from within RADview, since they are read only parameters. However, you can use the built-in management utility of the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 to configure the operational mode. The management menus are accessible from a serial connection to the device control port or using the Telnet protocol via a connection to the Ethernet LAN port. For complete information about managing ETX-102/201/202 using the terminal, see the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 Installation and Operation Manual.

• Changing the Operation Mode erases some parameters, such as the Ethernet host IP, and disconnects any remote management sessions.

• Changing the Ethernet host IP address disconnects any remote management sessions. For RADview management, you would have to add the new managed element (host) IP address to the EMS or SNMPc map.

RADview management software is used for managing large networks. RADview uses SNMP messages to manage ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202. ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 can be managed by a network management station (NMS) via of the unit Ethernet ports. The connection can be made either from a local LAN, or from a remote location, via a PSN connected to one of the ETX Ethernet ports.

ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 Configuration Summary

Follow these steps in order to configure ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202:

1. If necessary, reset ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 to the factory defaults, from the terminal (Configuration > System > Factory Default).

2. If necessary, reset ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202, from the terminal (Main Menu>Utilities> Reset).

3. Configure ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 for management, from the terminal (Configuration > System > Management).

4. Connect the cables to ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202.

5. Configure ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 for the desired application.

Connecting ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 to the Network Management Station

ETX-102/201/202 can be managed by a network management station (NMS) via of the unit Ethernet ports. The connection can be made either from a local LAN, or from a remote location, via a PSN connected to one of the ETX Ethernet ports.

Inband Management

ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 can be managed via SNMP by a Network Management Station (NMS) over one of unit’s Ethernet ports.

To connect ETX-102/201/202 to the Network Management Station:

1. Verify that the management parameters are properly configured.

2. Connect one of the active ETX Ethernet ports to the PSN on which management traffic from an authorized NMS flows.

Out-of-Band Management

ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 can be managed via SNMP by a Network Management Station (NMS) on the LAN (hub or switch) connected to the one of the unit’s Ethernet ports.

To connect ETX-102/201/202 to the Network Management Station:

1. Connect the last user port to a port of an Ethernet switch or hub serving the network on which the appropriate NMS is attached.

2. Verify that the Bind parameter in the Host menu (Configuration > System > Host) is set to OOB.

Getting Started

Begin using RADview-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 by launching the respective ETX-102/201/202 View window.

To launch the ETX-102/201/202 View window:

• On the map, select and double-click the ETX-102, ETX-201, or ETX-202 icon.

The respective ETX-102/201/202 View window opens. You can now perform configuration and monitoring functions in the entire ETX-102/201/202 system.

This example assumes that the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 icon is already visible on the NMS map. For information on working with the management console and adding ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 as a managed element, see the RV-EMS/NGN System Manual.

This section provides an overview of an Ethernet access application, with two ETX-102/201 units operating opposite each other (see Figure 4-5).

The ETX-201 application is identical to the ETX-102 application.

VLAN-unaware (stacking) application requirements:

• Receiving three user traffic feeds via separate user ports:

Port 1 – real time traffic

Port 2 – priority data

Port 3 – best effort data.

• Service level definition (SLD):

Assigning rate limit to each data stream

Configuring per port ingress priority.

Assigning different port VID to each data stream.

Perform the following configuration steps when deploying ETX-102/201 units:

1. From the terminal, configure system parameters (setting host IP, defining network managers, configuring management VLAN).

2. From the terminal, configure network and user interfaces at the physical layer (if necessary).

3. Configure the internal bridge (bridge mode, port VIDs).

4. Configure QoS (priority and rate limitation).

Configuring System Parameters

This section explains how to configure ETX-102/201 units. The configuration procedure is similar for both units, except for defining different host IP addresses. For an explanation of how to select management options and save the changes, refer to the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 Installation and Operation Manual (hardware manual).

Configuring Host IP Parameters

To configure the host IP parameters:

1. From the terminal, display the Host menu (Configuration > System > Host), and configure the IP address and mask of the host:

ETX-102/201 (A) host IP address – 192.168.10.2

ETX-102/201 (B) host IP address – 192.168.10.1

2. Save the changes.

Defining Management VLAN

To define management VLAN:

1. From the terminal, display the Encapsulation menu (Configuration > System > Management > Host > Encapsulation), and configure the following:

Adding a Network Manager

To add a network manager:

1. From the terminal, display the Manager List menu (Configuration > System > Management > Manager List).

2. Type a to enter the Add mode.

3. When in Add mode, select Manager IP, and enter the IP address of the management station – 192.168.10.100.

4. Save the changes.

Configuring QoS

It is necessary to select priority type and ingress rate limit for all user ports.

Selecting the Priority Type

To select the priority type:

1. In the ETX-102/201 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > QoS > Classification.

3. Set the Classification to Per Port.

In this case, the use traffic coming from the different port is to be prioritized according to the default priority tag setting (see Configuring the Bridge Ports on page 4-11).

The application is as follows:

• ETX-102/201 (A):

When receiving untagged user data from its user ports 1 and 2, it adds two different VIDs to the data streams

Sends the user data to the remote ETX-102/201 (B) and ETX-102/201 (C) via its network interface

When receiving tagged data from the remote ETX-102/201 (B) and ETX-102/201 (C), it strips the VID tags and forwards the untagged data to the user equipment via its user ports 1 and 2.

• ETX-102/201 (B) and ETX-102/201 (C):

Receive tagged data from the local ETX-102/201 (A)

Strip the VID tags and forward the untagged data to the user equipment via their user ports: user port 1 for ETX-102/201 (B) and user port 2 for ETX-102/201 (C).

This section provides an overview of an Ethernet access application, with two ETX-202 units operating opposite each other (see Figure 4-21).

VLAN stacking application requirements:

• Receiving two user traffic feeds via separate user ports:

Port 1 – real time traffic

Port 2 – best effort data

• Service level definition (SLD):

Assigning rate limit to each data stream

Assigning different SPVLAN (service provider VLAN) to each data stream.

Configuration Sequence

Perform the following configuration steps when deploying ETX-202 units:

1. From the terminal, configure system parameters (setting host IP, defining network managers, configuring management VLAN).

2. From the terminal, configure network and user interfaces at the physical layer (if necessary).

3. Configure the internal bridge (bridge mode, user ports)

4. Configure QoS (priority and rate limitation).

Configuring System Parameters

This section explains how to configure ETX-202 units. The configuration procedure is similar for both units, except for defining different host IP addresses. For an explanation of how to select management options and save the changes, refer to the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 Installation and Operation Manual (hardware manual).

Configuring Host IP Parameters

To configure the host IP parameters:

1. From the terminal, display the Host menu (Configuration > System > Host), and configure the IP address and mask of the host:

ETX-202 (A) host IP address – 192.168.10.2

ETX-202 (B) host IP address – 192.168.10.1

2. Bind hosts of both units to their bridge ports.

3. Save the changes.

Defining Management VLAN

To define management VLAN:

1. From the terminal, display the Encapsulation menu (Configuration > System > Management > Host > Encapsulation), and configure the following:

Host Tagging – Tagged

Host VLAN ID – 7

Host VLAN Priority – 7

2. Save the changes.

Adding a Network Manager

To add a network manager:

1. From the terminal, display the Manager List menu (Configuration > System > Management > Manager List).

2. Type a to enter the Add mode.

3. When in Add mode, select Manager IP, and enter the IP address of the management station – 192.168.10.100.

4. Save the changes.

Configuring the Bridge

Configuring the Bridge Mode

In the VLAN stacking application, it is necessary to configure the EXT-202 internal bridge to the VLAN-unaware mode.

To configure the bridge mode:

1. In the ETX-202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Bridge > Parameters.

3. Set the VLAN Mode to Unaware.

4. Set the Forwarding Mode to Filter.

5. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

Configuring the Bridge Ports

To configure the bridge ports:

1. In the ETX-202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > Bridge > Ports.

The Bridge Ports Table dialog box opens with read-only fields.

3. Select USER - ETH 3 (user port 1) and click <Change>.

4. Set Stacking VID to 4.

5. Set Default Priority Tag to 2.

6. Set Tag Handling to Stacking.

7. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

8. Repeat steps 3–7 for USER-ETH-4 (user port 2), setting Stacking VID to 5, Default Priority Tag to 1, and Tag Handling to Stacking.

Configuring QoS

It is necessary to select priority type and ingress rate limit for all user ports.

Selecting the Priority Type

To select the priority type:

1. In the ETX-202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > QoS > Classification.

3. Set the Classification to Per Port.

In this case, the use traffic coming from the different port is to be prioritized according to the default priority tag setting (see Configuring the Bridge Ports on page 4-23).

4. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

Selecting the Rate Limit

To select the rate limit:

1. In the ETX-202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Configuration > QoS > Rate Limitation.

3. Set USER-ETH 3 (user port 1) CBS to one of the following values (4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, or 128) and set CIR to 200.

4. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

5. Repeat steps 3–4 for USER-ETH-4 (user port 2), setting CBS to one of the following values (4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, or 128) and CIR to 50.

• ETX-202 (A):

When receiving untagged user data from its user ports 1 and 2, it adds two different VIDs to the data streams

Sends the user data to the remote ETX-202 (B) and ETX-202 (C) via its network interface

When receiving tagged data from the remote ETX-202 (B) and ETX-202 (C), it strips the VID tags and forwards the untagged data to the user equipment via its user ports 1 and 2.

• Remote ETX-202 (B) and ETX-202 (C):

Receive tagged data from the local ETX-202 (A)

Strip the VID tags and forward the untagged data to the user equipment via their user ports: user port 1 for ETX-202 (B) and user port 2 for ETX-202 (C).

When receiving untagged data from the user equipment, they add VID tags to it and forward the data to the local ETX-202 (A) via their network interfaces.

5.1 System Statistics

RADview allows you to set the polling interval and view OAM (CFM) statistics for the ETX-102/201/202 system.

Setting the Polling Interval

You can set the polling interval by selecting the time (in seconds) that will pass between two successive statistics polls of ETX ports.

To set the polling interval:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Statistics > Polling Interval.

3. Fill in the field, as described in Table 5-1.

4. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

The new polling interval is set after the dialog box is refreshed, and affects all Statistics dialog boxes of all ETX ports. When updating the polling interval while other dialog boxes are open, the new polling range is updated only after an automatic polling occurs or after the <Poll> button is pressed.

Viewing OAM (CFM) Statistics

You can view Ethernet OAM (CFM) statistics per selected service (for VLAN mode Aware, or for VLAN mode Unaware when Tag Handling is Stacking).

To view OAM (CFM) statistics:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Statistics > OAM (CFM).

3. View the fields, as described in Table 5-2.

4. To view statistics, select the relevant service, click <Statistics>, and select the relevant option from the drop-down menu. (Options include: Running Counters, Current Frames, Current Delays, Interval Frames, and Interval Delays.)

You can only select a single service at a time (no multiple selections allowed).

Statistics dialog boxes combine data and graph displays (except for Current Delays and Intervals Delays that have no graphs).

6.1 Understanding RADview User Security Levels

RADview/OV, when running on a UNIX based operating system, supports the users and permissions security feature. This section presents an overview of the four user security levels: Monitor, Technician, Operator, and Administrator. The user security levels are managed by RADview-EMS/NGN via the Security > User Manager menu path. For further details, refer to the RADview-EMS/NGN NMS User’s Manual.

This security feature defines the following different types of users:

• Monitor

• Technician

• Operator

• Administrator

The above list is written in order of increasing access rights; the Monitor has the fewest access rights and the Administrator has the most access rights. The more privileged access level has access to all of the features to which the less privileged access level has access.

Each type of user has a different level of permission to access ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 application data. The permissions are per menu and per dialog box. Some users have permission for read and write (RW) access to all of the menus and dialog boxes; others have only partial access. Some users have read-only (RO) access or are prohibited access to some of the menus and dialog boxes.

For example: a Technician level user has more access rights than a Monitor level user. Therefore, if a Monitor level user has write (Set) permission to the data in a specific dialog box, then a Technician level user also has write permission.

The menus always look the same for all users. If a user attempts to display a dialog box or to select a menu item that he is not permitted to access, a message will be displayed stating that he has no permission to access that function.

For example: clicking a Set button, or another RW function, requires read and write access. Therefore, a user with read-only access who tries to access these functions will be denied access.

Only an Administrator can add or remove nodes from the Service Center map. For further details, refer to the chapter on Security in the RADview-EMS/NGN System Manual.

Monitor

A user at the Monitor level may monitor all types of information related to the managed device, but cannot do any action that causes any change in the device. This means that any action that writes data to the Agent, is disallowed. Examples of write (set) operations include:

• Set

• Apply

• Delete

• Change

• Add

• Remove

These operations are disallowed, whether from attempted from within a dialog box or selected via a menu option. The NMS provides feedback on a disallowed operation in one of the following ways:

• To obtain maximum information, the Monitor can change any fields (edit, combo-box, etc.) in a dialog box, but these changes cannot be activated because the write operations are blocked. Attempting to activate a change will be rejected, and the Monitor user will be notified via an information dialog box.

• Some dialog boxes do not provide any additional information, but merely allow changes in the system. Since a Monitor cannot use these dialog boxes, they cannot be displayed at all at this level.

A Monitor level user has write access to the following (system level) ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 Agent functions:

• Poll the ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 Agent

• View the history log

Technician

The Technician can perform all of the Monitor level functions (such as those that were just listed), and, in addition, is allowed write access to the following (system level) ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 function:

• Clear the history log

The responses to disallowed actions, beyond the Technician level permissions, are handled in the same manner as for the Monitor level.

Operator

The Operator is granted all of the permissions needed to perform any task related to ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 management. The Operator can also perform all of the Monitor and Technician level functions.

Administrator

The Administrator has all of the Operator permissions and, in addition, has access to the RADview-EMS/NGN User Manager function (this function is not accessible by the Operator). The Administrator can also perform all of the Monitor, Technician, and Operator level functions.

6.2 Configuring Host Parameters

RADview allows you to view and configure host parameters for ETX-102/201/202. You can configure host ports for ETX-102/201/202 (when Bind is set as Bridge port in Unaware mode).

To configure host parameters:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

You cannot change the number of management stations, or the Manager IDs, but you can change the IP address(es).

To view or specify the management station IP address to which to send traps:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the system.

5. To configure that the specific manager will not receive traps from the device, select the relevant Mask Traps check box adjacent to that address.

6. To configure that the specific manager will receive traps from the device, clear the relevant Mask Traps check box adjacent to that address.

7. Set the UDP Trap Port.

8. Click <Set> to implement the changes.

Upon set, the NMS checks the IP Address. If it is 0.0.0.0 and Mask Trap check-box is checked, the following error-message appears in the status bar: “Illegal IP Address when Traps are Masked”.

7.1 Managing System Alarms

RADview-EMS/NGN allows you to manage ETX-102/201/202 system alarms.

Basic tasks include:

• Configuring event reports for Ethernet ports and OAM (CFM) services

• Masking port alarms

• Viewing the history log

• Clearing the history log

7.2 Handling Alarms and Traps

The Fault menu provides access to the system alarm options. You can view alarm severity as well as clear alarms.

Jabbers: Total number of packets received that were longer than 1518 octets

You can add up to 100 event reports for ETX-102/201/202 ports.

• Only existing ports can be selected and only if there are less than five entries in the table.

• If the last USER port is used as an OOB port, the last port cannot be selected.

To add an event report for an Ethernet port:

1. In the Event Report Configuration for ETH Ports dialog box, click <Add>.

If the maximum number of entries for all ETH ports has been reached, a message box appears displaying: “Maximum entries exist for all ETH ports” Click <OK>. The dialog boxes close.

You can remove event reports for ETX-102/201/202 Ethernet ports.

To remove an event report for an Ethernet port:

1. In the Event Report Configuration for ETH Ports dialog box, select the event report that you want to remove.

2. Click <Remove>.

A message window appears, prompting you to confirm the deletion.

OAM (CFM) Service Event Reports

OAM (CFM)provisioning is relevant only for VLAN Mode Aware or for VLAN Mode Unaware where the Tag Handling is Stacking.

7.4 Masking Alarm Traps

You can mask ETX-102/201/202 alarm traps to prevent the agent from sending the traps to the managers.

To mask a port alarm:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 window, select the system.

2. On the menu bar, click Fault > Mask Alarms Traps.

3. Select the relevant check box(es).

4. Click <Set> to implement the updated list of masks.

(You can click <Cancel> to exit the Mask Alarms window or click <Refresh> to display an updated Mask Alarms window.)

If all traps for certain Managers were Masked (via Manager List), this configuration will not be so relevant for these managers, because all traps will be masked for them (even if the selection in this dialog box is not to mask them).

Viewing the History Log

You can view a history log of all the alarms listed in the ETX-102/201/202 System Alarm Buffer. The System Alarm Buffer contains all the unmasked alarms recorded for the whole device.

To view the history log:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 window, select the system.

2. One the menu bar, click Fault > History Log.

4. Do one of the following:

Sort the alarm buffer list by clicking on one of the columns on the list. You can sort each column independently. The Alarm Buffer list is sorted according to the Date and Time column by default with the oldest shown on the first line.

To send the Alarm Buffer to a printer, click <Print>.

To save the Alarm Buffer to a file, click <Save to File>, select a location to where to save the file, name the file and click <Save>.

To retrieve/display the next 500 entries in the Alarm Buffer, click <Next>.

The history log can have a maximum of 1000 entries, and displays the first 500 upon opening the dialog box, and the last 500 entries upon clicking <Next>.

To update the list, click <Refresh> or exit the window by clicking <Close>.

Clearing the History Log

You can clear the history log contained in the ETX-102/201/202 Alarm Buffer. Selecting this entry will clear all the entries of the Alarm Buffer.

To clear all alarms in the Alarm Buffer:

1. On the menu bar, click Fault > Clear History Log.

2. Click <OK> to confirm cleaning the Alarm Buffer.

The History Log is cleared.

In the History Log Alarm List, only alarms that occurred after the Clear operation will be displayed.

7.6 Performing Diagnostic Tests

Monitoring performance in the RADview-EMS/NGN ETX-102/201/202 consists of performing diagnostics or loopback tests.

Diagnostic tests you can perform on ETX-102/201/202 ports include:

Loopback

Virtual cable test: for Ethernet ports with a copper RJ45 port. Not supported for SFP.

VLAN test.

The Diagnostics menu provides access to the port level diagnostic test options. You can run loopback tests for the following types of Ethernet ports:

• NET

• NET/USER

• USER.

Running Loopback Tests

ETX-102, ETX-201, ETX-202 support two loopback types:

• Regular loopback runs at the PHY of the bridge ports. When the loopback is active the data forwarded to a bridge port is looped from the Tx path to the Rx path.

• Loopback which supports exchanging source and destination MAC addresses of the incoming packets. You can define loopback direction (ingress or egress) and type of data to be looped back (all data except for packets with management VLAN tag or only packets with a specific VLAN tag).

To run a loopback test:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the relevant Ethernet port.

2. On the menu bar, click Diagnostics > Loopback.

3. Fill in the fields, as described in Table 7-6.

If there are no errors, the test starts running.

The test will not run if one of the following occurs:

If another loop is running on any port. A message box appears displaying: “Cannot perform test: Test is running on <port name> port”, where <port name> is port on which the test is running. Click <OK> to close the message box.

Running Virtual Cable Tests

Virtual Cable test is enabled only if the selected Ethernet port is a copper port (and not SFP).

You can check the quality of the copper cables, connectors and terminations by running a Virtual Cable Test (VCT). During the test ETX-102/201/202 transmits a signal of known amplitude down each of the two pairs of an attached cable, testing the Rx and Tx pairs sequentially. The signal travels down the cable until it reflects off of a cable imperfection. By measuring magnitude of the reflection and the time it takes for the reflection to come back, ETX-102/201/202 estimates an approximate distance to the location of a cable break or short.

To run a virtual cable test:

1. In the ETX-102/201/202 View window, select the relevant Ethernet port.

2. On the menu bar, click Diagnostics > Virtual Cable Test.

For ETX-202, this command activates the test for all pairs, but is Set by SNMP only for Pair A. For ETX-102/201, this command activates the test for the selected Ethernet port.

5. Click <Poll Results> to poll the results (enabled when there are no test results shown in the dialog box and disabled after results are shown).

• If VLAN Test is Enable upon entry to the dialog box, VLAN ID field is read only (you cannot change VLAN IDs while VLAN Test is Enable).
