QUESTION THREEWhat have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Question 3 Evaluation

SURVEY• After completing our music video and ancillary tasks we wanted to

gain feedback from our target audience to find out whether we had been successful or not.

• We created a survey on SurveyMonkey.com and sent it out using email and social networks in order to gain as many responses as possible. With the survey we also included a link to the Youtube video, an image of the advert and an image of the digipak so that they could give an accurate opinion on our products.

• A total of nine people completed our survey.

DID YOU ENJOY OUR MUSIC VIDEO?

• The purpose of our first question was to find out whether or not our audience actually enjoyed watching our music video. We did not want to offer our respondents the opportunity to leave a comment for this question because we just wanted an honest yes or no answer. Luckily 100% of the people we asked answered that they did enjoy our music video so this was indicative that we had made a successful video.

HOW WELL DO YOU THINK THE MUSIC VIDEO FITTED THE STYLE OF A TYPICAL

INDIE ROCK VIDEO?• One of the most important things we needed to consider when planning and

constructing our music video was the genre conventions so this question was crucial to find out whether our audience thought we had managed this. We did a lot of research and planning to make sure we used the typical characteristics of the genre so we were happy that 100% of the people we asked said that it fitted its style very well.

HOW WELL DO YOU THINK THE MUSIC VIDEO IS EDITED TO THE BEAT OF THE

MUSIC AND LYRICS?• We had tried to use on beat editing throughout our video to create a relationship

between the music and the visuals so we asked this question so that we could find out if our audience thought it was successful. Most of the people we asked said that we had done this quite well, while some said we had done it very well. No one said we had not done it well so we were happy with these responses.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE MUSIC VIDEO AND WHY?

• We put a comment box with this question to give our audience a chance to give a more detailed information of what they thought of the video. We got a range of different answers to this question but out of the 9 people that answered the survey, 8 of them said that the layered ‘hallucinating’ effects and most of them mentioned that they liked the reversed clips as well. From this we learnt that our editing had improved our main product as these were the bits that people said they liked.

ARE THERE ANY IMPROVEMENTS YOU WOULD MAKE TO THE MUSIC VIDEO?

• A few of the people we asked replied ‘No’ to this which was positive but not very useful or constructed. The people that did reply commented that they would like to see some more performance elements in the video. Although this was a characteristic of indie rock videos that we did notice in our research we decided to challenge it because we wanted to make a narrative type video. After seeing the feedback from our audience we realise that this is in fact what people like to see in a music video and if we were to remake it this would probably be something we would include even if it was just more lip syncing. One person also said that the camera wasn’t always stable.

DO YOU THINK OUR MUSIC VIDEO, DIGIPAK AND ADVERT ARE A GOOD

COMBINATION?• We needed to create a brand that had continuity throughout its

products so we asked this question to see if we had been successful in this. 100% of the people we asked said that ‘Yes’, they did think it was a good combination.

Page 10: Question 3 Evaluation

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THE DIGIPAK AND THE ADVERT?

• As we had already asked about our music video we wanted to find out what our audience thought of our ancillary tasks. The feedback was very positive and most people said that they looked professional which we were very pleased with as this was one of our main aims when creating the products. We also got good feedback on our photographs, font choices, colour schemes and use of logos.

WHICH PARTS OF THE DIGIPAK AND ADVERT DO YOU THINK COULD BE

IMPROVED?• The responses to this indicated that the digipak needed

more to it as people thought the inside was a bit plain and that we could have made a booklet to go with it as most real digipaks do include these so this is something we would change. Someone also said that the advert could have listed the bands tour dates on it.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE?

• This question was to give our audience the opportunity to give us any additional feedback that they thought they had not said in previous questions. The people that answered this said that our media products were very good and professional overall so we were happy with these results.

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT FROM OUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK OVERALL?

• We have acknowledged that some parts of our products were not perfect and could be improved but overall this survey has indicated to us that we have made a successful combination of media products. One of the comments that came across continually in the responses was that the products looked very professional which was positive as this was something we tried very hard to achieve throughout the construction of our products.
