HOLIDAY CONCERTDECEMBER 13, 2017
EGHS Parent Newsletter 2 3rd Quarter - Januay 2018
December 22, 2017 Dear Parent(s), Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled in the evening of Thursday, February 1, 2018 and the morning of Friday, February 2, 2018. This is a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers for ten-minute conferences. As in years past, you will be making your appointments online. The online appointment portal will open at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2018. You may access the online scheduling system at any time of the day or night within this registration window. We suggest that you identify 2-4 classes that you consider priority conferences and schedule those, though you may make appointments with as many or as few teachers as you wish. Keep in mind that in some instances, ten-minute conferences are not adequate. If you find yourself in that situation, or if the teacher’s schedule is full, you may make an appointment with the teacher for a follow-up conference. You may also email or contact a staff member at any time. The instructions for online scheduling are included. You will need the following information to schedule your child’s individual conferences:
Student’s ID# Date of birth:
Primary phone number: If you have any questions related to Parent Teacher Conferences, please feel free to reach out directly to 847-718-4413. For Spanish related questions please call 847-718-4778. Best Regards,
Megan Knight Associate Principal for Instruction

Spring 2018 Testing Schedule
April 10, 2018
Juniors will take the State SATwith Essay. This administration is paid for by the state of Illinois; students will complete the registration in school. The results of this SAT test are accepted by colleges and universities to meet admission requirements. Completion of this state-mandated SAT is a graduation requirement.
The SAT is a high stakes assessment because:
1. The SAT is used by colleges in screening applicants. 2. The SAT may be submitted for scholarship competition. 3. The results may be used for student placement in classes and remediation.
Therefore, test conditions must be standard and fair to all students. Two major points should be considered by students and parents alike:
1. Students that arrive late for testing will not be allowed to test that day.
Parents will be notified, and students will be sent home. They will be required to take the make-up on April 24th.
2. Any impropriety in testing, ie. cheating, finishing the test in excessively short time, or verbal disruption will require that the student be dismissed with no opportunity for make-up.
Sophomores will take a PSAT 10. Freshmen will take a PSAT 8/9 Testing will begin at 8:15 a.m. for Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors. Information regarding Senior activities on April 10th will be announced at a later date.
March/April 2018
(Date to be Determined)
Students currently enrolled in Biology (most freshmen) will take the State mandated Illinois Science Assessment. This test will be administered online in Biology classes.

college. Tuition free.
Under the Harper College Promise Scholarship Program

The first dose shall have been received on or after the 11th birthday, and the second dose shall have been received on or after their 16th birthday, at least eight weeks after the first dose. If the first dose is administered when the child is 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required. What does this mean to you and your student? Your student may have already received the two doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine but it has not been specified on their immunization form. Please ask your doctor if your student has received the two meningococcal conjugate vaccine and have them provide the dates they were given and a doctor’s signature. FROMTHEDESKOFTHEDEANSDear EGHS Families- We would like to take a moment and remind our students and families about our cell phone policy and how we encourage the appropriate use of cell phones while at school. Please know that while cell phones are not completely prohibited at school, we do suggest that use of cell phones be limited as much as possible in order to keep our collaborative focus on academics. Please take a moment and read our district policy on electronics below.
StudentBehavior7:190ProhibitedStudentConduct
Using or possessing an electronic paging device. Using a cellular telephone, video recording device, personal digital assistant (PDA), or other electronic device in any manner that disrupts the educational environment or violates the rights of others, including using the device to take photographs in locker rooms or bathrooms, cheat, or otherwise violate student conduct rules. Prohibited conduct specifically includes, without limitation, creating, sending, sharing, viewing, receiving, or possessing an indecent visual depiction of oneself or another person through the use of a computer, electronic communication device, or cellular phone. Unless otherwise banned under this policy or by the Building Principal, all electronic devices must be kept powered-off and out-of-sight during the regular school day unless: (a) the supervising teacher grants permission; (b) use of the device is provided in a student’s individualized education program (IEP); (c) it is used during the student’s lunch period, or (d) it is needed in an emergency that threatens the safety of students, staff, or other individuals.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to review this policy and speak with your child about the distractions that cell phone use may cause at school. We are all working together to keep our focus at school on school related items. Please feel free to contact the Dean’s Office with any questions or concerns you may have.
miedo. • Tenga una conversación honesta y de dos
vías.

Oscar Gonzalez didn’t know what manufacturing could offer until he took a course at Elk Grove High School.
In just one year, Oscar learned how to work with high-tech tools and complex industrial equipment, such as lathes and mills, and met with manufacturing professionals through numerous industry site visits. He also earned an industry-level safety certification from a national organization verifying his qualifications in the field.
Oscar credits these classroom and career-specific opportunities – offered through District 214’s robust Manufacturing pathway – with showing him he can combine his advanced math skills and desire to work with his hands.
The Manufacturing pathway is one of 44 in District 214’s Career Pathways program, which provides students with rigorous academic courses, access to early college credits and industry certifications, and personalized and career-specific learning experiences.
In fact, District 214’s partnership with the local manufacturing community and community colleges provides students early college credit and internships. Students like Oscar can earn up to 24 semester hours of early college credits toward Harper College’s associate of applied science degree in Advanced Manufacturing Technology while in high school.
Manufacturing pathway helps Elk Grove student discover his future
to make them college and career ready but also instills grit, perseverance and resiliency so they can tackle and achieve their goals.
To learn more about District 214’s Career Pathways, speak to your student’s counselor and visit www.d214.org/discover214.
“I have gained so much knowledge about what the industry looks like. I am always learning something new.” – Oscar Gonzalez
The goal is to help all District 214 students discover their futures so they can decide what they want – or do not want – to pursue after high school. Business Management, IT, Culinary Arts, Journalism, Engineering, Visual Arts and Aviation are just some of the pathways to choose from.
Now a senior taking honors and AP courses, Oscar is leaning toward a career in CNC-based manufacturing or tool and die making, and plans to attend college to strengthen his skills.
District 214’s Career Pathways program not only gives students the academic skills
