Purpose of the post:

At its heart, the Insight Officer post is all about supporting London Sport teams and external partners, gathering information and providing an evidence basis for various projects programmes and initiatives linked with the over-arching aim to make London the most active City in the world.

The post will involve an exciting variety of organisational insight work and will be fundamental to the ongoing development of the London Sport Insight function.

Conducting primary and secondary research there will be an emphasis on impact measurement and evaluation, however the role will also involve ad hoc qualitative research.

Day to day tasks will include research and project management, facilitation and interviewing, conducting data analysis, creating reports, using software packages to visualise data, and playing an active role in the engagement of internal and external stakeholders to disseminate evidence and findings.

About the person:

As a research professional with a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience of agency or client-side research experience, you will be motivated by the opportunity to develop your existing skills to support internal London Sport teams and partners to activate research and insight.

You will be a solution-focussed team player capable of taking responsibility throughout the research cycle, managing projects from end to end, keen to develop your career activating insight, and ensuring that projects land with impact.

Owing to the varied nature of our work we are seeking a candidate confident and keen to develop experience and skills in qualitative research (e.g. facilitating focus groups and workshops). In addition, there will be opportunities to develop data visualisation skills in order to create dashboards, maps and infographics.

The successful candidate will be capable of demonstrating experience and/or keen interest to develop skills in these areas.

Main activities and responsibilities:

Research

1. Carry out data analysis and reporting with emphasis on impact measurement and evaluation working with internal and external teams to explore and understand the impact of projects and activities.

2. Deliver quantitative and qualitative research incorporating online and offline techniques. This will primarily include survey based research, with further potential for online communities, mobile ethnography, focus groups, interviews and workshops.

3. Compile, monitor and analyse London Sport data and other secondary sources to improve understanding of physical activity and sport in London.

4. Support London Sport teams and partners, to make insight-led decisions by making insight and research more accessible, and by helping them to improve their capabilities in the research and insight field.

5. Develop software skills to support our capacity to visualise data, including use of Tableau and Microsoft Power BI to hare progress on KPIs, ArcGIS to map demographic information, and Adobe Illustrator to create infographics.

6. To provide an excellent customer service to internal and external partners through effective project management

7. To produce clear and simple communications and present research findings in a visually engaging format with clear and actionable recommendations.

8. To be proactive in undertaking self-development, to ensure continuous learning through identifying and attending relevant training, development and ‘on-the-job’ opportunities to develop appropriate skills and knowledge.

9. To continually seek best practice and strive to identify and implement service improvements.

10. To undertake other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Insight & Performance and Insight Manager.

Location:

The role will be located primarily in London Sport office in central London but travel to attend meetings and carry out other work-related duties will be required across the whole of London and occasionally beyond.

Person Specification and Selection Criteria:

A. A degree or equivalent qualification

B. Demonstrable understanding of, and experience in, undertaking research using quantitative and/or qualitative techniques

C. An enquiring and analytical mind-set. Someone who enjoys the research process, creating new understanding and improving practice

D. A commitment to self-development with a positive attitude towards learning new skills and research methods

E. Computer literate to an advanced level in terms of using Microsoft Office software for word processing, spreadsheets and managing databases

F. Experience of analysing and presenting information and/or data to reveal new understanding which meets the needs of the target audience.

G. Experience of producing infographics and working with data visualization software (desirable)

H. Excellent organisational & time management skills

I. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to convey messages simply and clearly

J. Ability to support others as part of a team and to work on own initiative, with minimum supervision
