Thank you for purchasing this PurgEye® 300 Nano Weld Purge Monitor®. This model has been specifically designed for the welding industry and provides a low cost, high accuracy instrument for entry level weld purging needs at oxygen levels down to 10 parts per million (ppm).

Features

The PurgEye® 300 Nano Weld Purge Monitor® features include:

• Easy-fit ‘leak tight’ connections for purge hoses.

• Long life sensor with less than 60 seconds warm up.

• Measured oxygen displayed in ppm.

• Large display (17.8 mm tall digits).

• Printed stainless steel front panel.

• Digital linearisation of sensor output, for improved accuracy at lower concentration levels.

Note: The longer the purge time and the higher the purity of gas, the better the low level accuracy.

Connection to a Power Supply

Your PurgEye® 300 Nano should have been delivered with a mains electricity lead and an adaptor for the plug that suits your local electricity system.

Unpack the Power Supply Unit (PSU) (1) and fit the correct adaptor for your area. Slide it in until the clips have locked.

Turning the Instrument ‘ON’

Connect the DC output of the PSU to the rear of the purge monitor (2) then connect the PSU to a mains AC 110 - 240 V mains socket (3).

The PurgEye® 300 Nano Weld Purge Monitor® will display flashing bars from left to right on the screen while it is warming up.

After the warm up period the unit will display “1000” (flashing).

Please wait a further five minutes for the sensor to stabilise and then the PurgEye® 300 Nano Weld Purge Monitor® is ready to use.

PAGE 5 coNNEctING the PurGE GAS hoSES

The PurgEye® 300 Nano Weld Purge Monitor® has two 6 mm quick fit leak tight connectors on the front of the unit, for the purge gas hoses. One is for the exhaust gas coming from your purging system, which allows it to pass over the sensor for measurement, and the other is the instrument exhaust. The 6” hose provided should be plugged into the instrument exhaust fitting, to reduce the chance of atmospheric air to migrate back to the sensor and disturb the readings.

These connectors can be used either as input or output.

Connect the green sample hose and allow the sample gas to flow at a rate of approximately 4 Lt/min.

Your PurgEye® 300 Nano Weld Purge Monitor® is delivered with two 6 mm O.D. purge gas hoses.

The green tube is 1 metre long and is for connecting to your purge system gas exhaust.

The red tube is 400 mm (16”) long and is for connecting to the second port. This is to prevent oxygen from the atmosphere, migrating back to the sensor and distorting your true purge gas reading.

The Warming Up Stages

There are 5 stages to the warming up procedure. The screen will show 1 - 4 bars as it continues to warm up.

See screens below:

Stage 1 -Stage 2 --Stage 3 ---Stage 4 ----

Stage 4 will remain showing on screen until the purged volume drops below 1000 ppm.

Once your purge system exhaust oxygen level falls below 1000 ppm the monitor will register 999 and lower until it reaches your desired level.

In the event that your oxygen level does not reach the required value, you need to suspect leaks in your system somewhere, faulty purge gas or contamination that evaporates during the welding process (see troubleshooting guide).

Zirconium Oxide Sensor Care

Damage to the sensor and false readings can arise due to incorrect operation, leaks, corrosion, condensation, etc, which will void warranty. Regular servicing of all external components is essential.

As a general guideline, the gases to be measured should be free from dust, condensation and products capable of condensing. Such components can block the gas conduits in the sensor and cause damage.

There are processes where gases contain components which form solid or liquid condensation. This condensation can be deposited in the gas conduits of the sensor and either affect the measurements or damage the sensor. These components should be identified and removed before taking a measurement.

There are some circumstances that can cause permanent damage to the sensor. See next page for more details.

PAGE 8 WArNING

Zirconium Oxide Sensor Care

Permanent damage to the sensor can occur due to the following circumstances:

• Physical shock.

• Water vapour, condensation etc. Use a water filter to prevent this.

• Sensor is in the unheated state in gas which contains hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or sulfur dioxide (SO2).

• Contact with gases which contain halogens like fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl) or bromine (Br). For example: CFC’s (chlorofluorocarbon).

• Contact with organic vapours for example: solvents, oil mist, petrol vapour, contact sprays, cleaning sprays, corrosion protection sprays.

• Also damaging are volatile organic substances as for example silicone vapours from sealing compounds, adhesives and greases.

• Use silicone free tubing.

Note: HFT® recommend the unit to be used in conjunction with a suitable filtering method to preserve sensor life.

A Quick Guide in the Event of Problems

If the reading does not fall below 1000 ppm after a reasonable purge time, or in the event that your reading does not pass your expected level of oxygen, please do the following:

Check that the correct 6 mm O.D. purge hoses are used for the quick fit ‘leak tight’ connections in case air is leaking into the instrument.

Check the purge gas quality at the source by taking your PurgEye® 300 Nano directly to the source (i.e. gas bottle with regulator) to verify your purge gas quality as well as ensuring that the connections are ‘leak tight’.

Check the cleanliness of the components being welded. Could there be excessive cleaning material or dirt that might be outgassing?

Note that excessive oil and grease will outgas and may produce copious quantities of oxygen until all contamination has been purged.

Check to see whether there is any material in the volume being purged that could be outgassing air or water vapour. If this instrument is being used with a Purging Chamber or Enclosure, check all components inside for cleanliness.

(A manipulator for example may have oil or grease filled bearings that will outgas. Such bearings should be thoroughly cleaned and lubricated with graphite).
