A proverb is a short, memorable phrase that gives advice about life.

Proverbs can contain traditional beliefs about life.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

Meaning: People always long for

what they do not have and they are never happy with what they have

One man’s meat is another man’s poison

Meaning: Something one

person likes very much can be something that another person does not like at all.

More haste, less speed

Meaning: The faster you try to

do something, the more likely you are to make mistakes.

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Meaning Don’t put all your energy

on one thing.

Let sleeping dogs lie.

Meaning: Don’t disturb a situation

as it would result in trouble or complication.

First come, first serve

Meaning: People who ask for

something first will be the ones who get it.

New brooms sweep clean

Meaning: New things are done more

seriously.

Meaning: It is better to have

something small and reliable than something big and risky.

Great minds think alike.

Meaning: A humorous expression

that is used when something else is thinking about the same thing you are thinking of.

Meaning: It is better to do things

late than not doing it.

Meaning: You should never feel

helpless because difficult times always lead to better days.

Meaning: Take advantage of

favourable circumstances because they might not last long.
