Proverbs 17:5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

Anybody who laughs at or makes fun of the poor is making fun of God, Who

made them.

Exodus 22 NIV 25-27 "If you lend money to one of My people among you who is needy, do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest. If you take your neighbor's cloak as a pledge, return it to him by sunset,

because his cloak is the only covering he has for his body. What else will he sleep in? When he cries out to Me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.

Don’t take advantage.

2 Thessalonians 3 10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. Balance

People who won’t work have responsibility.

But we are to help the truly needy.

Glad at calamitiesProverbs 24 17-18 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him.

Have compassion on those who have trouble;

Even your enemies.

6a Children's children are the crown of old men;

This Proverb assumes that the children and grandchildren are living life God’s Way.

If they have turned their backs on God, living rebelliously and stubbornly going their own way,

then they bring shame upon their family.

And upon God!

6b and the glory of children are their fathers.

Children should be able to be proud of their parents and thankful for their example.

It is so very sad when that is not the case.

Ephesians 6 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honor (revere, value) thy father and mother; (which is the first command-ment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Be a parent that can be honored.

Disrespect for parents has become the norm in our culture.

And it is encouraged by many in authority.

Secret abortions for under -16s by ZOE Bolton, Mail online: Girls younger than 16 will still be allowed to have abortions without their parents' consent, under new guidelines issued by the Department of Health. The move comes despite public outrage over the case of Melissa Smith - the 14-year-old pupil who had a secret termination after speaking to a school health worker. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-312217/Secret-abortions-16s.html

Ephesians 6 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6 6-7 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Parents must be godly parents.

7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.

(TLB) 7 Truth from a rebel or lies from a king are both unexpected.

We are sons and daughters of The Most High God; behave as what you are.

8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

Those who set their hearts upon money, will do any thing for it. What influence should the gifts of God have on our hearts!

Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.

John 3 16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
