Brent Bravo – Surface and Subsurface Hazards (New Entry 22-07-2011) Please be advised that we are currently constructing a floating barrier within the 500m zone of the Brent Bravo. This comprises a series of floating bays which are moored through a hybrid catenary (rope and chain) system to 8 x 12t Stevpris anchors. The 5 large yellow surface buoys have a yellow flash every 5 seconds and are fitted with radar reflectors. Although everything is inside the 500m zone, it must be highlighted to the fishing community operating in the area that the anchors are close to the outer perimeter of the 500m zone and as such could be hazardous to fishing vessels who tow their gear right on the edge. Therefore vessels operating in the area must account for any forces which may cause their gear to go inside the 500m zone - even by just a few meters.

I thaca Energy – Athena F ie ld Development (Update 27-07-2011) The Athena Field will be developed by means of a subsea tie-back to the BW Athena FPSO (Floating Production Storage Offloading) which will lie about 2 km South West from the Athena Drill Centre location. The initial development (works described further on) consists of 4 production wells and 1 water injection well. The FPSO will be turret-moored and freely weather-veining. Oil export is via shuttle tanker. The BW Athena FPSO will provide the host production operating services for Athena including provision of oil and gas processing, produced water treatment and disposal, electrical power, subsea control and chemical injection, water injection. The drill rig, SEDCO 704 is currently on site drilling the wells with a completion date currently scheduled for end October 2011.

The STP Buoy is a mooring line tethered buoy utilised to locate the BW Athena FPSO at the Athena site. At the centre of the STP buoy is a turret, the outer section of the buoy is free to rotate around the turret. The outer part of the buoy, when pulled into the FPSO, allows the FPSO to rotate or weathervane around the geostationary turret.
