1 Principal’s Report 2018-19 I am honoured and it gives me great divine pleasure to present before you the annual report of our KME Society’s G.M.Momin Women’s College for the year 2018-19. The College today: Our college was established with the motive of spreading awareness on higher education among women, especially those hailing from the minority Muslim population, and the economically challenged sections of the society; and facilitating the same through appropriate effective action. The college has grown from strength to strength over the years: from a modest beginning in 1989 with only 94 students, the college today has over 1550 women students enrolled in various Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate programmes in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce. Apart from conventional courses leading to graduation, the college also enrolls students for BMS, B.Sc. (Biotechnology), B.Sc. (Inter-disciplinary Studies), B.Sc. (IT), M.A., M.Com., M.Sc., M.Sc. (IT) and Ph.D. programmes of the University of Mumbai. Similarly Principal Dr. Kolet along Dr. Tarannum Attar, Dr. Nandita Singh, Ms. Jayashree Thakre, Dr. Kamran Abbas and Ms. Nusrat Ansari successfully presented, represented and brought our college under RUSA umbrella. Dr. Moses Kolet attended the National Digital Launch of Startup Projects at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai inaugurated electronically by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 3 rd February 2019 in presence of our Education Minister Shri Vinod Tawde.

Principal’s Report 2018-19

The College today:

Our college was established with the motive of spreading awareness on higher education among women, especially those hailing

Our teachers jointly hold 3 patents and 3 National Service Medals. Our College was successfully registered with the NIRF once

Our teacher Dr. Vaishali Nirmalkar was selected as district co-coordinator for Avishkar Research Convention by the University of

Mumbai. Our teachers Dr. Nandita Singh and Dr. Tarannum Attar were invited as jury members for the Avishkar research

convention district level rounds. Dr. Tarannum Attar was nominated as its team manager by the University of Mumbai for its team

at All India Anveshan Research Convention at Mehsana, Gujarat in March 2019. Ms. Jayashree Thakre and Dr. Vaishali

Nirmalkar conducted DLLE orientation sessions at various colleges on behalf of University of Mumbai.

As part of institutional responsibility our college conducted several outreach programmes in and around Bhiwandi on scientific

themes, cyber security, innovations in microscopes and as per wishes of Hon’ble President of KME Society, adopted KMES High

School and Junior College, Padgha for academic interaction. Ms. Tasmi Ansari participated in the Essay competition for teachers

organized by KBP Hinduja College of Commerce, Mumbai. Ms. C. Laxmishree and Dr. Nandita Singh participated in Thane

Marathon. 10 students were invited and jointly sponsored to attend the International Conference on ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ by

VPM’s Joshi Bedekar College, Thane. Staff and students were invited to the International Fountain Pen Show hosted by Mr. Javed

Akhtar and Ms. Shabana Azmi at Nehru Centre on 2nd February 2019 where they got an opportunity to interact with several

creative artists. Students actively participated in Youth Leadership Forum in KC College, Churchgate, Mumbai on 6th February

2019. I am happy to state that in acknowledgement of dedication and zeal to learn among our students, Mr. Shekhar Bhadsavale,

globally renowned agricultural expert has announced free training workshops of their choice for our girls in advanced agri-

horticultural techniques at Saguna Baug, Neral. Two of our students reached up to the semi final rounds of All India Debate

Competition 2019 of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Today several of our students are entrepreneurs and philanthropists

and having established their own brands, are successfully running their enterprises online. It is a matter of pride that this year we

procured a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Machine for Department of Biotechnology; only a handful of institutions have this

valuable asset in their stocks. For all the above shining glorious achievements, I am ever thankful to our management, staff,

students and their parents, all other stake holders and above all ‘Almighty Allah’ for incessant blessings.

Results:

Results of the Semester II, IV and VI in the last academic year 2017-18 are as follows:

Faculty of Arts: The overall percentage of passing in the last under-graduate F.Y. and S.Y.B.A. examinations conducted in

March-April 2018 was 45.97% and 68.00% respectively. In the T.Y.B.A. examination conducted by the University of Mumbai in

April- May 2018, the college posted a successful result of 98.82%. At the Post-Graduate M.A. examinations the overall result was

83.78%. The college achieved 100% results in subjects of English Literature, Sociology, Islamic Studies, History and

Philosophy; the results in remaining subjects being, Urdu Literature, 60% at the M.A. (Part II) level.

Faculty of Science: The overall rate of success in the last under-graduate F.Y. and S.Y.B.Sc. examinations conducted in March-

April 2018 was 57.85% and 87.09% respectively. In the T.Y.B.Sc. examination conducted by the University of Mumbai in April

2018 the overall percentage of passing was 87.96%. At the Post-Graduate M.Sc. (Part II) level the overall result was 74.46 %.

100% results were achieved by the Department of Physics, Botany and Zoology.

In the subject of B.Sc. (IT), results at F.Y. and S.Y.B.Sc. (IT) examinations were 68.57% and 95.65% respectively, while

T.Y.B.Sc. (IT) posted a result of 93.02%. 100% result was achieved by the M.Sc. (IT) class in the last University examination.

In the subject of B.Sc. (Biotechnology) results at F.Y. and S.Y.B.Sc. examinations were 82.61% and 90.32% respectively, while

T.Y.B.Sc. (Biotech) posted a result of 81.48%.

The BSc (Inter Disciplinary Studies) Course posted a result of 60.47% at the F.Y.B.Sc. and 91.67% at S.Y.B.Sc. examinations.

The first batch will be appearing for their Final Year examination during this year.

Faculty of Commerce: The percentage of passing in the last under-graduate F.Y. and S.Y.B.Com. examinations conducted in

March 2018 was 86.44% and 72.41% respectively. At the T.Y.B.Com. examination conducted by the University of Mumbai in

March-April 2018, the college achieved a successful result of 91.66%. At the Post-graduate M.Com. examination our result was

90.32%.

The percentage of passing in the last under-graduate F.Y. and S.Y.B.M.S. examinations conducted in March 2018 was 72.72 %

and 85.95 % respectively. In the T.Y.B.M.S. examination conducted by the University of Mumbai in March 2017, our college

achieved a successful result of 97.77%.

Results of all examinations conducted in 2018-19 were declared within the stipulated period by the college I congratulate the

students, teachers and support staff for the results achieved.

Special Awards, Recognitions and Book Publications:

The Western Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India honoured our college with their appreciation award.

Prin Dr Moses J. Kolet was presented with a special award from Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension Education

(DLLE), University of Mumbai on 23rd January 2019 for contribution towards DLLE activities. He was honoured with ‘Best

Principal Award’ by Indo Global Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture, Pune on 11th June 2018 and felicitated with

Academic Excellence Award by Swayam Siddhi College of Management and Research on 5th September 2018 on the occasion of

Teacher’s Day. Dr Moses Kolet and Mr. Anis Choudhery were felicitated with the MSAA Ratna Awards on 16 th December 2018

by Maharashtra State Angling Association for promoting angling as a sport at global level. Both were also felicitated by Traffic

Police Branch, Bhiwandi on 8th February 2019. Dr. Tarannum Attar was felicitated at the hands of Padmashree Smt. Rajashree

Birla for acquiring of Ph.D. degree during the year. She was also awarded a gold medal by the University of Mumbai on 29th

December 2018 for her role in Avishkar 2016-17. Prin. Dr. Moses Kolet, Dr Tarannum Attar and Ms. Nusrat Ansari were

felicitated by Allana Institute of Management Studies, Azam Campus, Pune with Citation Awards. Dr. Kolet and Ms. Jayashree

Thakre were invited as resource persons for the UGC HRDC FDP at Azam Campus, Pune. Our college and its staff won 32

awards and recognitions during the year.

Our table calendar for academic year 2018-19 featuring photographs contributed by our students and staff on the theme ‘Tourism

on the offbeat track’ was released. Ms. Nazneen Momin co-authored two textbooks on Cost Accountancy for commerce students

and contributed a book chapter along with Dr Tarannum Attar. A volume of abstracts of projects presented during the Science

carnival sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology under the Star College Scheme was published by the

Department of Physics. The Department also published their SOP Manual for conduct of practicals under the Star College Scheme

of DBT. 4 books compiled by our staff were published on Teachers Day 5th September 2018 during the University Avishkar

Orientation workshop. Dr. Tarannum Attar co-authored a text-book on Nuclear Physics.

BEQET Award: A noteworthy achievement of this year is winning the coveted 13th BEQET (Best Educational Quality

Enhancement Team) President Award 2018 of National Centre for Quality Management in March 2019. Our team of 5 led by

Prin. (Dr.) Moses Kolet and comprising 2 staff Dr. Vaishali Nirmalkar, Ms. Tasmi Ansari and 2 SYBMS students Ms. Noma

Sendu and Ms. Hafsa Khatri effectively presented our quality enhancement project titled ‘Empowerment of Young Women

Learners through Focussed Confidence Building and Happiness Inducing Activities: An Effort Towards National Progress’ which

won accolades and the award. Our backup team comprised Dr. Tarannum Attar, Ms. Jayashree Thakre, Dr. Shaziya Momin, Dr

Kamran Abbas, Ms. Nazneen Momin, Ms. Nobi Hani and Ms. Nusrat Ansari. The presentation competition was conducted on 9th

February 2019 and the award was ceremoniously conferred upon our college in a grand award ceremony at Nehru Centre on 2nd

March 2019 at the hands of Mr. Anil Sinha, Vice President, Tata Motors, Mr. Gandhi, Mr. B. Bannerjee, founder member NCQM,

Mr. Santosh Khadagade, President, NCQM and NCQM officials.

Scholarships:

Students received financial support of Rupees Twenty two lakhs twenty four thousand seven hundred and fifty six from several

scholarships, trusts and philanthropists for fulfillment of their dreams to gain higher education. A special camp was organized in

our college on 5th November 2018 by the scholarships committee in collaboration with Tehsildar Office, Bhiwandi for making and

distribution of domicile certificates and income certificates required for scholarship applications. 150 students took advantage of

this camp and got their documents made and issued on the same day. Many students are awaiting scholarships for the year from

various sources at this point of time. Details of scholarships are as mentioned:

New Courses Introduced:

This was the third year of our B.Sc. (Inter-Disciplinary Studies) course and our first batch will be appearing for their graduation in

B.Sc. Inter Disciplinary Studies this April. Permissions to introduce two new subjects namely, NSS and Extension Education

Studies as alternative subjects for Foundation Course have also been received from the University of Mumbai and technical

formalities are being completed. Two new subjects namely, Bio safety and Agricultural Biotechnology were introduced from this

year as Applied Components. Permission to introduce Psychology at T.Y.B.A. level is sought and the subject is expected to be

introduced from next academic year 2019-20.

The ISO surveillance team for new upgraded version ISO 9001:2015 is awaited from Bureau of Indian Standards. Ms. C.

Laxmishree and Mr. Ahmed Patel attended training workshop on ISO certification conducted by Bureau of Indian Standards.

Inspection team of Government of Maharashtra visited the college on 14/7/2018 for annual review of facilities.

Safety, Environment and Green Audits were successfully conducted through GESA, an International certification agency in July

2018. The auditors Mr. Parmar and Mr. Pande, ex-Indian Navy congratulated the college for awareness, availability and

maintenance of facilities. Fire Audit was conducted by Fire Fighting Department of BNCMC.

Internal Academic audits were conducted in each semester. External Academic Audit was carried out under expert auditors Dr.

Vijay Joshi, former Principal, Somaiya College (autonomous), Dr. Anil Patil, Principal, JSM College and former Director, BCUD,

University of Mumbai and Dr. Mahendra Khandpekar, D.Sc., B.K. Birla College, on 27th April 2019.

Star College Scheme:

I am happy to announce that we have received continued funding for the second and third years from the Department of

Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India under Star College Scheme to our 5 departments of

Botany, Chemistry, Information Technology, Physics and Zoology, for strengthening of the departments. A record of 597

activities have been successfully conducted under the scheme in the last 3 years, benefitting over 4000 students, 100% staff from

the concerned departments and 51 members of the non-teaching staff. Several new resources have been created with financial

backing of this scheme. All reports regarding this scheme were dispatched in time to DBT by Star College Committee. The

meeting with External Experts was conducted on18th March 2019. Specialized Training sessions for the star scheme committee

for ‘Handling of Government Accounts’ were arranged by the Central Government.

Dr Tarannum Attar (Star Scheme Co-coordinator) and Dr. Vaishali Nirmalkar attended the second task force meeting and

presented Star Scheme progress report of our college for the academic year 2017-18 in New Delhi on 8th May 2018. The

presentation was awarded ‘A’ Grading by DBT. Dr. Naheed Azam and Dr. Kamran Abbas represented our college at the India

International Science Festival inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India and organized by DST, Govt. of India at Lucknow, Uttar

Pradesh in October 2018. Dr Subhashree Ghosh and Ms. Hannan Momin attended 2 days biodiversity conclave ‘My Earth 2050’

at KC College in collaboration with Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. in February 2019 under Star Scheme. Amongst several other

dedicated activities conducted by departments under the Star College Scheme, a Science Workshop – Science Enrichment

through Innovative Experiments was arranged by Department of Physics in August 2018 receiving overwhelming response

from 7 schools and Junior Colleges.

On successful completion of 3 years of Star College Scheme, our college received invitation for award of Star Status scheme

wherein Ms. Jayashree Thakre and Dr. Tarannum Attar presented the college at Pondicherry University, Pondicherry from 18-20

April 2019. Along with DST officials, task force and panel members, they also interacted with our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr.

Suhas Pednekar at Pondicherry during this event.

Research Grant from Ministry of Science and Technology:

Prin. (Dr.) Moses Kolet and Dr. Subhashree Ghosh received financial grant of Rupees Eight Lakhs from Ministry of Science and

Technology. Dr. Subhashree Ghosh attended the Foldscope Training Workshop in New Delhi on 17th April 2018 under this grant

scheme. Our college has a twin institute, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North East

Hill Region, Meghalaya under this project. Ms. Hiba Shaikh, our own alumnus has been appointed as Junior Research Fellow, the

first JRF in our college, under this grant scheme.

Steps towards ICT and Digitalization: The admission process, financial transactions with the University, fee transactions and

declaration of results are online. This year the college introduced E- attendance system. 7 rooms were made ‘ICT enabled’ during

the year. Few departments are using Google classroom for knowledge sharing. KOHA software was successfully installed and is

being used in the library. New website prepared by teachers from our IT department was launched in February 2019.

Faculty Development Curriculum Related Activities:

Our college joined hands with the University of Mumbai to jointly organize an event for release of University books on Zoology

(Semester V) in our college on 25th July 2018, peer review of books (Semester VI) on 11th October 2018 and release of books

(Semester VI) on 11th December 2018.

Prin. (Dr.) Moses Kolet was nominated by the Hon.ble Vice Chancellor as VC’s nominee on the Academic Council of

S.K.Somaiya College (Autonomous). Four teachers, namely Mr. Amir Hamza, Dr. Tabassum Sheikh and Dr. Nooruddin Shaikh,

Dr Nandita Singh contributed as members of Boards of Studies of the University of Mumbai respectively. 10 teachers contributed

as members of various syllabus committees and as chair persons of examination panels of the University of Mumbai and 15

teachers contributed as paper setters for university examinations. 3 teachers contributed to Books in the subject of Zoology

published by the University of Mumbai. Two teachers contributed to other text books. We had University level Book Review

event and two Book release ceremonies for these books during the year.

Prof Samina Shaikh successfully completed her two year tenure as UGC Research Fellow and joined her duties in the college

from February 2019. Mr. Sachin Jadhav who substituted as Assistant Professor of History in her absence was given a fond

farewell by students and teachers in January 2019. Ms. Nusrat Ansari from Department of IT cleared her SET examination. Three

teachers namely, Ms. Asba Ansari, Ms. Tasmi Ansari and Ms. Fatema Zohra Momin were invited for one month 3rd induction

training programme at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, in May 2019. Our library support staff

Ms. Rabiya Shabbir Shaikh got her Masters’ Degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.Sc.), Ms. Shaila Ansari completed

her graduation in Arts Faculty and our physics department support staff Ms. Shabana Ansari successfully completed her M.A.

with Urdu as major subject.

Avishkar 2018 and Anveshan 2019:

As a result of sincere efforts put in by the project identification committee under mentorship of Dr. Tarannum Attar, this year we

had fielded 20 projects comprising 46 students and 20 guiding teachers at the Avishkar Research Convention Zonal Round at

Joshi Bedekar College on 18/12/2018; of which 5 projects were selected by judges and competed in the University Avishkar Final

Round at R.D. National College, Bandra on 29/12/2018. Dr. Vaishali Nirmalkar from the Department of Botany was nominated as

Avishkar District co-coordinator by the University of Mumbai. Dr. Tarannum Attar was felicitated by the University of Mumbai

with a gold medal for her earlier performance in 2016-17 Avishkar convention at the University Final Round at Kelkar College

and Inter University Events at Nanded.

Our team was amongst few others representing the University of Mumbai on in January 2019 for the Inter University Avishkar

Research Convention at Gondwana University, Gadchiroli, where our University of Mumbai won the First Position and overall

Alsaba Abdul Qadir was invited to meet the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor on 21st January 2019. Ms. Alsaba Abdul Qadir was further

selected to represent the University of Mumbai at the West Zone Anveshan Inter University Students Research Convention at

Pacific Academy, Udaipur where she won bronze medal and then represented our college and University of Mumbai at the All

India Inter University Anveshan Research Convention held at Ganpat University, Mehsana, Gujarat in March 2019. Dr. Tarannum

Attar was nominated by the University of Mumbai as its team manager for the University team, a task which was performed

51st Youth Festival of University of Mumbai:

Our students won one gold medal (Ms. Tarannum Firdaus Ansari) and two silver medals (Ms. Faiza Siddiqui and Ms. Noma

Sendu) in the 51st Youth Festival in Mehendi Design and Debate respectively

Research Paper Publications and Presentations:

The number of research papers published by members of our staff in this academic year stands at 38 publications and I am sure

many more will follow. The number of papers presented stands at 39 and number of conferences, seminars, workshops and

training sessions collectively attended by our teachers, stands at 225. In addition, several undergraduate and post-graduate

students also presented and published research papers based on projects carried out by them under guidance of their teachers. The

papers and projects presented by undergraduate students at various research meets stand at an impressive figure of 70

presentations. Ten students were invited and sponsored by VPM Joshi Bedekar College for attending the International

Conference on ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ on 18-19 January 2019 where they got a chance to interact with several foreign delegates. A

student from FYBCom published her first research paper in UGC approved journal. I congratulate the teachers and students who

have published and presented their research.

G.M.Momin Scholars Academy:

The idea to involve students in mini research projects under research mentor teachers was put into action and inaugurated in

January 2017. Since then, over 400 students have presented their research papers and posters at various Regional, National and

International level conferences, seminars, workshops and competitions. The overwhelming result was obvious when 20 teams

participated in district level rounds of Avishkar Research Convention and 5 teams were selected for the University final round. 80-

100 posters, oral papers, projects and science models were presented by students as part of our Science Day celebration.

Annual Sports:

Two days Annual sports meet was held in the college grounds on 10th and 11th January 2019, wherein students actively

participated in various sporting events. Outdoor events such as Handball, Limited over Cricket Matches, Dodge ball, Short Put,

Javelin Throw, 100, 200, meters Running, Badminton, Kho Kho and Tug of war and inter class as well as individual competitions

attracted overwhelming participation of students. The friendly tug of war event between teaching and non teaching staff saw

enthusiastic participation of all staff members. Indoor events such as Carrom, Chess and Table tennis also received overwhelming

response. All students participated with enthusiasm under mentorship of the sports committee.

Prize distribution function for sports prizes was arranged in the morning session on 5th March 2019. Dr. (Mrs.) Kuiljeit Uppaal,

Image Scientist, CEO, Krea and an accomplished pilot distributed medals and prizes and delivered an inspiring address on women

empowerment. On this occasion Dr. Kuiljeit Uppaal was felicitated at the auspicious hands of our management members.

Annual Social and Prize Distribution:

Annual social and talent show was organized on 15th January 2019 wherein over 650 students participated and enjoyed the

proceedings under the mentorship of the cultural activities committee. Events such as Traditional Dress contest, Singing, Mono-

acting, Skit competition got enthusiastic response from students. The events were judged by expert team of jury comprising Prof.

Prakash Mali (former chief moderator, HSC Board, winner of Best Teacher Award of Govt. of Maharashtra and cultural expert),

and professionals Mr. Suhail Ansari, Ms. Prachi Puro and Ms. Jyoti Tiwari.

Annual Prize Distribution ceremony was arranged on 5th March 2019 in the afternoon wherein Dr. R. Ganesan, Director, Allana

Institute of Management Studies AIMS, Azam Campus, Pune shared the dais with Dr. Yugant Shinde, Medical Professional and

Head, University Department of Sports Medicine, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and an accomplished body builder with titles

such as Mr. Europe and several other honours; and distributed awards, prizes and scholarships along with our members of

management. Class and Subject toppers, student achievers, best student, best outgoing student, NSS and DLLE student leadership,

best NSS and DLLE volunteers, reader of the year, student resource persons for workshops etc were felicitated. Teachers were

awarded customized appreciations according to their contributions in success and progress of the college. Employee of the Year

Award was bagged by Ms. Rubina Momin. Ms. Safa Hani won the Best Outgoing Student of the Year 2018-19 title, while Best

Student of the Year was jointly won by Ms. Naba Momin and Ms. Atufa Momin. A special prize for smiling personality of the

year was awarded to Ms. Safiya Ansari. Students in Leadership Roles namely, Ms. Kulsum Ansari (Sports CR), Ms. Aqleema

Ansari (Cultural CR), Ms. Alfiya Shaikh (NSS student leader), Ms. Maryam Ansari (DLLE student manager), Ms. Gulnar Ansari

(Student Representative, Magazine Committee) and ex-student Ms Jabeen Jabbar Miyan Shaikh (Winner of International

Competition on Disaster Management) were felicitated with awards. Members of the student’s council rendered their valuable

services in all the events.

Degree Distribution Ceremony:

The ceremony to distribute graduation and post-graduation degree certificates to our successful candidates of examinations held in

April-May 2018 was accomplished on 27th February 2019 on behalf of University of Mumbai; for which Dr. Suchitra Naik,

Principal of VPM’s Joshi Bedar College of Arts and Commerce, was the Chief Guest and Dr. Hafiza Golandaz, Executive

Director, International Leadership and Management Alliance was the Guest of Honour. Degree certificates were distributed in

presence of Joint Secretary, Treasurer, other office bearers and members of the management of KME Society, members of staff

and guardians, to over 370 graduates and post-graduates. The fresh graduates thanked the team under leadership of Ms. Samina

Shaikh for best organization of the event.

KME Society’s Woman Achiever Award:

The award committee and its student volunteers commenced exercises to identify potential awardees and after interviewing and

visiting the area of work of women social workers from Thane district, identified the woman achiever. The KME Society’s

Woman Achiever Award for 2019 through G.M.Momin Women’s College, comprising award, trophy and citation was awarded to

Ms. Bernadette Pimenta, an accomplished and well known social worker, founder of Sewadham, on International Women’s Day

8th March 2019 at the hands of management members Mr. Mukhtar Farid and Mr. Atik Suse, honourable invited guests and role

models for students, Mrs. Priti Savla, Director, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Mumbai, Mrs. Shrabani Kapoor, Dy.

Director, ICAI, Mumbai, Dr. Sonia Gunay, Leading Gynaecologist and Mrs. Stella Jimmy Moraes, former winner of the award, in

presence of chairpersons of KME group of institutions, several Principals and all staff and students, for her multi faceted work

making a difference to society for the past five decades and more.

Registration of New Voters and Voter Awareness:

National Voters Day was celebrated on 25th January 2019 with invited talks by officials from the Election Department followed by

registration of new voters from among students and oath taking ceremony. Voter Awareness events for students and staff were

organized on 7th March 2019 in presence of Tehsildar and Nb. Tehsildar where over 200 teachers and students were given

demonstration of the EVM machines and modifications carried out to the same for transparency in the election process; and 25th

March 2019, where 150 students were motivated for voting by Officials from BNCMC, Tehsildar Office and SVEEP team.

Demonstration of EVM by election officials was arranged on 7th April 2019 for students, where 100 students were made aware of

the machine. Members of staff contributed services towards successful conduct of elections to the Lok Sabha on 29th April 2019.

Independence and Republic Day Celebration:

Along with respected members of KME Society, our own University Rankers and student achievers were invited for hoisting the

National flag on Independence and Republic Day. Ms. Bushra Khan, our Mathematics topper at 2018 Graduation Examinations

along with her brother Dr. Badruddin Qasmi and Sister in law Ms. Zakiya Khan (also our alumnus) jointly hoisted the National

Flag on Independence Day 2018. Hon. General Secretary KME Society, Dr. Mussadiq Patel delivered the Independence Day

Speech to the gathering.

Ms. Alsaba Abdul Qadir (S.Y.B.Sc. Physics -Maths) and Ms. Sadequa Ansari (T.Y.B.Sc. Mathematics) (University Gold

medalists at Avishkar and Bronze medal winner at Inter University West Zone Research Convention) were the guests of honour

on Republic Day 2019. Ms. Alsaba accompanied by her mother Mrs. Nikhat Shaikh and Ms. Sadequa accompanied by her father

Mr. Irshad Ahmed, mother Mrs. Tahera Ansari and sister Ms. Sauleha Ansari jointly hoisted the national flag along with members

of KME Society Dr. Musaddiq Patel (Hon. Gen. Secretary), Mr. Moeed Agha (Joint Secretary), Adv. Yasin Momin and Adv.

workshop related to ISO 9001:2015 certification on 12 & 13 July 2018. Internal ISO audits were conducted and Management

Review meeting was held on 26th April 2019 and stage I audit was conducted on 21st May 2019. The college has applied to Bureau

of Indian Standards for upgraded ISO version and is awaiting external audit.

Organization of International and Regional Level Workshops:

One International Workshop and 6 Regional Workshops were successfully conducted during the year. All the workshops received

overwhelming response from participants, most of whom presented their experiences during the event. I thank our KME Society

for their staunch support for these academic events.

Upgradation of Infrastructure:

Our fitness centre was upgraded with a new computerized commercial tread mill and several other newly added equipments and is fully

functional along with steam bath facility. A new elliptic cycle is expected to arrive soon. PCR machine was obtained for Department of

Biotechnology; which is an asset available with only top research institutions. Many scientific equipments and apparatus were added under star

college scheme. The Physical chemistry laboratory was renovated. The entrance of the college and main gate are being renovated. New

washroom facility for ‘divyang’ was commissioned.

Earn and Learn Scheme:

The scheme, implemented since 2016-17, helps needy students with their education. An amount of over Rs. 85,000/- was earned

by seventeen needy students from participating in this scheme during the current year 2018-19, helping them to fund their

education. 20 students also participated in an Earn and learn Scheme operating under MoU with Quick Heal Foundation and

earned over Rs. 63,000/- towards their education by spreading awareness on cyber security amongst 11,000 school and college

students of nearby institutions.

Giving Back to Society:

National Immunization Programme and Outreach Activities: Our premises were offered for training on Measles and Rubella

Vaccination Programme conducted by BNCMC for Head Masters, Supervisors, Teachers, Administrative staff and CRCs of all

schools in Bhiwandi, wherein over 320 staff was trained. Doctors from Health Department, BNCMC visited our college on 24th

November 2018 in this respect. Our NSS volunteers gave their services during this national immunization campaign organized in

our campus on 27th November 2018. Hon’ble Municipal Commissioner, BNCMC Mr. Manohar Hire, IAS, visited the college

during this drive. NSS unit also reached out to the community in adopted area and conducted outreach activity in Abdul Shakoor

School. NSS volunteers accompanied BNCMC health teams for immunization drives in slum areas.

Our DLLE unit had arranged a charity week starting 11th February to enable the fortunate to donate school stationery items for the

needy. The items collected by DLLE student volunteers were distributed to needy students in Bhiwandi Weaver’s Education

Society’s Weaver’s English Medium High School in April 2019. A drive for collection of E-waste and its safe disposal was

conducted. Students of Sociology under leadership of Dr. Gazala Bhoje visited Adivasi Sahaj Shikshan Parivar at Palghar, spent a

day with the learners and contributed a small amount towards their welfare.

The Department of Botany organized an outreach activity in October 2018 wherein our students demonstrated ‘life under

microscope’ to std. IX students of Momin Girls School. Students from departments of Botany and Inter Disciplinary Studies

volunteered their services at the exhibition of medicinal plants organized by NGO Hariyali at Priyadarshini Sankul, Mulund,

Mumbai, on 22nd November 2018. Department of Physics conducted a collaborative activity on sky observation with Rais High

School on 3/12/2018. On Wheel MSBTE Career Fair was conducted in collaboration with A.R. Kalsekar Polytechnic for school

students on 5/1/2019. A similar career fair for students of the campus as well as from KMES High School, Padgha was conducted

on 9/1/2019 in collaboration with VPM’s Polytechnic, Thane.

With guidance from Hon’ble Mr. Aslam Fakih, President, KME Society, our college adopted KMES High School and Jr. College,

Padgha and our Principal, teachers and counsellor regularly visited the school for quality educational interactions with staff and

students. Monthly visits and interactions are planned in the coming academic year.

Marathi Bhasha Divas:

The Marathi Bhasha day was celebrated on 27th February 2019 under mentorship of Dr. Archana Gupte. Students compiled and

recited Marathi customary sayings and conversed in Marathi on the occasion.

Live Telecasts:

Hon’ble Prime Minister’s interaction with students ‘Pariksha pe charcha’ was live telecast on 29th January 2019.

An invited talk on “Role of Genomics in Human Disease Management and Diagnosis" by Dr.Amol Raut, (PhD), Chief Executive

Officer, Gene Support, Pune was organized on 30th October, 2019 through video conferencing. Similarly our alumnus Ms. Zainab

Farid interacted with current IT students through video-conferencing lecture from Georgia, United States.

Induction Lectures, Opening Address, Principal’s Meetings with Students:

Principal Dr Moses J. Kolet assisted by members of the staff and coordinators of key committees conducted induction lectures for

all new entrant students and their parents in July 2018. Similarly Principal’s opening address for all classes were held in the

college reopening week. Meetings of student class representatives/ leaders with Principal are held every month.

National Democracy Fortnight:

This was observed from 26/1/2019 to 10/2/2019 by conducting awareness lectures and talks laying stress upon the values of

democracy and empowerment of voters. Our Hon. General Secretary Dr. Musaddiq Patel, Principal Dr. Moses Kolet, NSS

coordinator and election contact officer, Mr. Anis Choudhery addressed students and staff during this fortnight. Meetings, maha

sabha and proceedings arranged in BNCMC in this respect were attended by students and staff

Counselling Services: In another first, Ms. Kanika Jain was appointed as Counsellor. She has been well received by students.

Short Film Making: Our short film titled ‘Satark’ was sent up to the International Film Festival organized by Mudra Group

where it cleared the preliminary rounds from over 10 thousand entries to feature in the final round of 111 selected films.

Management of Wastes: The college has initiated composting of garden and kitchen wastes in partnership with NGO Hariyali.

E-waste was recycled in collaboration with MPCB approved M/s Green World Recycling.

Short-term Certificate Courses, Training Programmes and Workshops:

Forty short-term certificate courses and workshops were conducted this year, all of which received tremendous response from

students; over 3200 students and staff have taken the benefit of these skill development and value added courses and workshops

during this year. Student resource trainers successfully operated several skill courses. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the

respective course coordinators for successfully conceptualizing, designing, and running these courses and workshops. Several

workshops were organized under Star College Scheme. Over 500 students were deputed outside the campus for 37 different

training sessions/ events. I thank our management for their blessings in these ventures.

Intercollegiate Competitions and Events Conducted: This year saw 11 intercollegiate events being announced and successfully

Over 350 eminent personalities including Directors, CEOs, Scientists, Experts and Principals of various colleges visited our

college during the last one year to enlighten faculty and students on recent developments in their respective fields; Most of our

teacher colleagues were invited to other institutions during the year as conveners/ team members/ resource persons/ Jury members

for sharing their expertise.

Achievements by Non-Teaching Staff:

Our Office Superintendent Mr. Mushtaq Ali Patel cleared his PET Examination and successfully enrolled for Ph.D. programme in

management. We wish him all the best in this endevour. Ms. Rubina Momin was awarded the Employee of the Year Award for

2018-19. Ms. Rabiya Shabbir Shaikh successfully completed her Masters in Library and Information Science, Ms. Shabana

Ansari, M.A. (Urdu) and Ms. Shaila Ansari completed graduation. I extend my congratulations to them on their achievements.

Mr. Mushtaq Ali Patel attended CII workshop on Higher Education at St. Regis, Mumbai on 10/8/2018 and Workshop on Pay

Fixation and Skill Development at Mulund College of Commerce on 11/4/2019. Office staff participated in training workshop in

office procedures titled ‘Office automation, document control and record management’ organized by University of Mumbai and

Valia College of Commerce and Arts on 1/12/2018. Mr. Arfat Shaikh, Mr. Aqdas Bharmal and Mr. Iftekhar Shaikh got trained in

new enrolment procedures of University of Mumbai in May 2019.

Ms. Fiza Momin, Mr. Ataf Kuwari and Ms. Shabana Ansari participated in hands on training to use and operate ‘Expenditure

Advance and Transfer Module of PFMS at Ratnam College, Mumbai on 11/8/2018. Ms. Pushpa Paskanti received training in

State Level Workshop on Role of Non Teaching Staff in Administration and Accounts at K.M.Agrawal College on 23/1/2019.

Educational Tours, Industrial Visits and Outings:

Seventeen educational trips were conducted during the year as mentioned below. The Department of BMS, organized a long study

tour to Pune, Panchgani Mahabaleshwar and Wai which featured students’ visits to 3 industries.

NSS Camp and Activities:

NSS advisory committee meeting was held on 13th August 2018. NSS District Coordinator Prof Prashant Satvekar attended and

gave valuable suggestions. NSS week was celebrated from 24/9/2018 to 2/10/2018. Blood Donation camp was conducted in the

college on 13/12/2018 and Annual NSS Residential Camp was held at Bordi, from 23-29 December 2018. 104 NSS volunteers

participated and rendered their services. The valedictory session on28/12/2018 featured locals as well as tribals who shared the

evening and meals with the campers. Based on surveys conducted by volunteers in the surrounding areas during the camp, prizes

such as most clean house, healthy baby and most educated woman in the neighbourhood were given. Amongst the volunteers, Ms.

Ayesha Chaudhary won the prize for the best camper. Ms. Alfiya Shaikh bagged the award for best outgoing NSS volunteer, Ms.

Ramsha Ansari was declared best NSS volunteer and Ms. Nida Shaikh was awarded prize for best NSS leader 2018-19. Dr Anik

Srivastava attended 2 Days NSS Workshop organized by Govt. of Maharashtra at Pune in February 2019.

DLLE Activities:

The DLLE unit remained active all round the year. Apart from various activities, the unit provided student volunteers for Mina

Bazar along with NSS volunteers. On behalf of DLLE unit and students, I am thankful to Dr. Musaddiq Patel, Hon. General

Secretary, KME Society for generously providing a stall in Mina Bazaar for our DLLE group of entrepreneurs, an experience

which was cherished by students. The University of Mumbai invited Ms. Jayashree Thakre and Dr. Vaishali Nirmalkar to conduct

DLLE training sessions for teachers and students at Ulhasnagar and Thane. Ms. Maryam Ansari was declared the best DLLE

student manager while Ms. Iram Rajani bagged the prize for best DLLE student volunteer 2018-19.

Adventure Activities:

A trekking expedition was organized at Visapur Fort a level II trek in the Sahyadri Ranges on 31st January 2019, in which 45

students and 7 members of staff participated and gained first-hand experience of the adventure activity. Training in Self Defense

was provided on voluntary basis to students.

Achievements and Activities of Alumni:

Over 440 alumni established their bonds with their alma mater and registered themselves with their respective departments and

also extended financial support to the college. Department wise alumni meetings were arranged by respective departments. IT,

BMS and Biotechnology alumni had their reunion on 31st March 2018, 13th August 2018 and 18th February 2019 respectively. 3

top ranking alumni from faculty of commerce were invited as guest faculty to motivate current students. Our enterprising alumni

Ms. Salma Patel conducted a practical guidance lecture on entrepreneurship for students. Ms. Zainab Farid, our IT alumni

currently working as SQL Developer/ Analyst in Mckesson, Marietta, Georgia, United States, interacted with current IT students

through a video-conferencing lecture. We felt pride in inviting our alumni Ms. Gulsaba Ansari and Ms. Seema Ansari as resource

persons for the 3rd Intercollegiate Robotics Workshop on “Internet of Things” organized by Department of IT on 28 th and

29thSeptember 2018. Similarly Ms. Anusha Pathan, Ms. Vidhi Bhat and Ms. Neha Pithoo were invited for judging events

organized in the college. DLLE alumni partly funded a wheel chair for the college. Our Alumnus Ms. Atiya Ansari cleared her

NET examination in July 2018. A pool of alumni came forward to assist the college administration in conduct of examinations during vacation period. All the above alumni activities were coordinated by the college through respective departments and

teachers. The KMESWAAC group of alumni conducted Shopcoz event on 22/1/2019.

Vision: From here on we dream and plan to take our college to still greater heights of success and recognitions, without losing our

essence of personal touch. We dream of the great multitude of schemes which when put into operation at appropriate time and

opportune moments would elevate this sacred institution to loftier levels of learning, recognition and understanding. We are all

proud to witness this premier institute of higher learning, exclusively for women, becoming a landmark of Bhiwandi and

surrounding areas; having already carved out its niche at the National level, our dream is to take this institution still higher to

International levels of recognition. Let us work together for a better tomorrow.

Concluding Remarks: Before closing this report I would like to thank my entire team of dedicated teachers, non teaching staff,

students, devoted parents and alumni. I extend gratitude and sincere thanks to our management, the KME Society of Thane

District for their unflinching support, backing and trust placed in me for taking this college ahead towards uncompromised

scrupulous success and glory.
