Extra Suggested Literacy Activities: Play Follow this link for games to practice spelling, tricky words and letter formations. https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/

Musical Plates

Write some of the different sounds your child has been practicing on paper plates or stick them onto plastic plates. Place the plates face up on the floor – and ask your child to dance round them as you play some music. When the music stops can they tell you the sound they are standing closest to and can they also think of some words with that sound in them? Sounds snakes and ladders Make cards of the tricky words and/or sounds you think your child should practice or use your flash cards. Play snakes and ladder with your child, if you do not have a board there is one on the link below. When anyone gets to a ladder, they must read a flash card to be allowed to climb it. When anyone reaches a snake, if they can’t read the next flash card, they have to slide down it. https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-n-1196-snakes-and-ladders-game Sound Posters Here are the links to two postcards with the ee or ea sounds in them. How many words with ee or ea can your child find in each one? https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-54593-ea-phoneme-spotter-postcard https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-par-74-the-princess-and-the-pea-ee-phoneme-spotter-postcard

Watch and Listen Watch the Alphablocks episodes about ai and ay read and write the words as they make them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Eunmvlex0c

Writing-L.I To use knowledge of sounds and tricky words to write independently. This week we are looking at how to stay safe in the home. The science lesson is all about different dangers in the house and how to protect yourself from them. This writing task would be easier to do if you have covered the science lesson first! For this week’s writing task we would love you to design a poster to help keep your family safe in the house. You can pick one danger and focus on it or tackle a couple! Remember a poster needs to have a clear message and be simple and colourful to catch people’s eyes. Here are two examples – what do you like or not like about each of them? Now have a go at making your own! We would love to see what you make so please send us a photo of your finished poster!

Reading-L.I To use knowledge of sounds and tricky words to read independently. To read texts for enjoyment. To look at the features of a non fiction text. Remember to check your Learning Journal every Monday for your new group readers. Please continue to look at some non fiction texts/ information books at home if you can. I couldn’t find any on our topic to share but key features to discuss are the contents, glossary, index and how you can use them to look up information.

French-L.I - To say greetings and numbers 1-10 in French Can you remember how to say hello and introduce yourself? Bonjour. Je m’appelle __________ Listen to and singing along to the French Greetings Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXkJ88ygPY0 A little more advanced, good to hear French and the pronunciations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BgyvEXTZbk This week we are continuing to think about saying how you are. ça va? (pronounce- saa vaa) How are you? ça va bien. (pronounce- saa vaa be-en) I’m good/well ça va mal. (pronounce- saa vaa mal) I’m not good/unwell. comme çi, comme ça. (pronounce- Comm see comm saa) I’m okay. Ask your child to repeat each feeling. Put thumbs up for ça va bien. Wave thumbs from side to side for comme çi, comme ça Put thumbs down for ça va mal Play a Game- give your child a thumb action and see if they can remember the correct phrase. Can they have a little conversation Adult Bonjour Child Bonjour Adult Comment t’applles-tu? Child Je m’appelle_____ Adult ça va? Child ça va bien merci. Et toi (and you)? Adult Comme çi comme ça merci. Can your child remember the numbers 1-10 in French. Listen to the song and try to join in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsc3qLMaCu8 If your child is confident with numbers to 10, this song helps with numbers to 20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhj9SqrIZqI Use number flashcards and see if your child can say each number in French. Try in order then mix them up for extra challenge.

Art- L.I I have the freedom to discover and choose ways to create images and objects using a variety of materials. I can watch and follow instructions

Follow the simple recipe below to make salt dough. Ingredients 2 cups plain flour 1 cup salt 1 cup water Method

1. Measure out the flour and salt into a bowl and mix well. 2. Add half the water and mix again. 3. Keep adding water until it makes a good dough. 4. Use your dough to make something. 5. Leave your creation somewhere warm to dry out and then you can paint it.

You can use this dough to make whatever you want – you could make a rainbow and put it in your window for people to spot!

Listening and talking: I can listen to a question and respond. I can share my ideas and opinion I can ask questions to develop my understanding.

This week our talking and listening activities are discussing the dangers in and around our homes- see the science section. Does your child know what to do in the event of an emergency? This week your child should learn if and when they need to dial 999 and what this steps this would involve. Your child should learn their address, so they could share it in an emergency. Your child should also know your full name. At school we would we would be sharing and discussing all these important lessons in a sensitive way so as not to scare the children.

Music-L.I Inspiried by a range of stimuli I can investigate rhythm and sound. Do you have a ‘real’ fire in your living room? Perhaps you know someone who does. Why is it there? Fire can be dangerous, why should you not go too near, or ‘touch’ the fire? Which other things are hot? Drinks, radiators, hot taps….. can you think of anything else? If there was a fire anywhere, who should you call? The Fire Brigade. We are going to learn a song about firemen.

1. Listen to the song ‘The Firefighter’s Song.’

07 The Firefighter's Song.mp3

2. Now try to follow the words of the song (see below) as you listen. 3. Try to sing along with the music and get to know the song. 4. This song has lots of opportunity to add movement. See if you can think of actions to add, to

act out the song. Eg I wear a yellow hat, Down the pole I slide Off in the engine I go Now unwind the hose Up the ladders we go Spray the water on

5. Remember to make your ‘nee-naws’ louder to imitate the siren! Listen to this piece of music about fire. It is called: ‘Ritual Fire Dance’ by the composer Manuel de Falla http://youtu.be/8RB7X6HLvI8 This dance comes from a ballet. A ballet tells a story in which people dance to music. This piece was written in 1915 by the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. The piece was influenced by a traditional ceremony of a fire dance, where people used to worship the fire-god, where people would often jump through or leap around the fire. This music is fast, it has loud (forte) and quiet sections (piano). There are sections that we hear more than once – repetition. Listen out for the music becoming faster. The dancers tap their feet, do you think this sounds like the fire crackling? Perhaps you could make up your own dance to this piece of music!

Health and Wellbeing/ Science- L.I-I understand there are things I should not touch or eat and how to keep myself safe, and I am learning what is meant by medicines and harmful substances. L.I-I know that electricity is dangerous. I know how to stay safe around electricity. This week we are thinking about safety in the home. We would like the children to be aware of dangers in the home and how your child can keep themselves safe. Safety in the kitchen Watch the clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzpV4eTxWlo Look at the poster and discuss the dangers they can see, what could the people in the posters do to make things safer?

Numeracy and Maths L.I- To sequence, order, add 2 or 3 numbers within 10, 20, 50, counting in 2s, 5s, 10s. L.I- To add 2 numbers together to give a total. L.I-To be able to share a collection of items equally between a number of groups.

Mild Spicy Hot Activities for daily number warm up: Daily number warm up, Counting forwards/ backwards within 10, 20, 50. Say number before or after a given number, give missing numbers from a sequence. Count forwards and backwards in 2s, try it in 5s and 10s Can you say alternate numbers forwards and backwards in a sequence within 10, 20, 50. Adult says 1, child says 2, adult 3, child 4… Make your own number line, count forwards and backwards on the numberline, pointing to each number as you say it. Pick a number on the numberline, say the number say which number comes before and after. This is a fun game to reinforce addition within 10 https://www.topmarks.co.uk/addition/addition-to-10 Try the addition and subtraction games on the link below for slightly more challenge https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train See if you can quickly recall addition facts with this game http://www.ictgames.com/funkyMummy/index.html

Maths Focus: Sharing into equal groups Activities 1.Watch the link below to find out about sharing a collection of items into equal groups. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgoUVDoHx5M Count out 10 counters/sweets/items from your home. Share them equally between you and another person. Count how many you have each. Do this for other amounts such as 8, 6, 4. Place out a collection of counters or beads with 2 of each of 5 colours, can you make a pattern? Do this for 6 lots of 3, 4 lots of 3, 3 lots of 4 etc. Discuss what you see. Can you make equal groups by counting out 8 objects, put them into groups of 2. Count out 9 objects, put into groups of 3 and 12 into 4s, 10 into 5s, 12 into 3s. Discuss what you see. 2.Watch the link below for Numberjacks Fair Shares https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeXTDYS3E-4 Repeat the activity from yesterday. To make it a little different you could try gathering items from outside like leaves, sticks, pebbles. Use them for sharing. Count out 10 items, share them equally between you and another person or between 2 of your favourite toys. Count how many you have each. Do this for other amounts such as 8, 6, 4. Can this be done with a little more independence. Place out 5 items of one colour and 5 items of another colour and another 5 in a different colour (15 items 5 each in a different colour). Sort them into 3 groups by sharing out equally. Can you do the same for 10 between 2, 9 between 3 etc. Choose 3 of your favourite soft toys, count out 12 items to share between them. Do the same for 14 between 2, 9 between 3, 20 among 4, etc.

4. Sometimes a collection of items cannot be shared equally. Watch the link below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b4beyJ4oG4 Sharing can also be called dividing. We use this sign for dividing.

If you are having fruit for snack or lunch try cutting into pieces and sharing the pieces equally between you and your family. How many pieces are there altogether? How many do you get each? Are you able to share the pieces equally or are there some with more or less? Have a go at this mental maths dividing game. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train Find the sign for division and select the level ability starting with dividing by 2. If you find the first one easy you can challenge yourself to the next level.

Username: admin71 Password: (ashleySFL) Going on a Bear Hunt (Support out Transition Programme) Put a Bear or any other soft toy in your window to support the Nursery Transition programme. Nursery aged children all over Edinburgh are ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’. When you go out for a walk you could go on a bear hunt too. How many bears can you see looking out of the windows? Paint on the ground or walls using water and paint brushes - decorating paintbrushes are fun for this. The Craiglockhart Caterpillar (Join in the school community project) Decorate a stone using pens, paint or nail varnish to add to the Craiglockhart Caterpillar that is growing on the wall behind the centenary garden. You could write a message, paint a picture, create a bug or just keep it plain. Coat in PVA glue or varnish to make it waterproof.

RME – To be aware of important celebrations and festivals of world religions. Understand some of the traditions and customs of Ramadan and Eid. The 23rd of May marked the end of Ramadan with Eid. This is important event in the Muslim calendar and many of our friends will have been celebrating. You can find out more about Ramadan and Eid by watching the link below. https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/lets-celebrate-eid Listen to this fun song which also explains a little about Eid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUtIG3CMaYE Print off these lovely mehndi patterns or draw around your own hand and create your own.

P.E- L.I- To move and control my body well. L.I - To make a short sequence of moves including a roll, balance and travel.

Always remember to stretch and warm up your body before doing any rolls. Begin your warm up with 10 jumping jacks, jogging on the spot for 30 seconds then 10 jumps with your hands by your sides. Repeat. Watch the clip below to see how to stretch your muscles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpHo9y5W-6I Now you are ready to practise your rolls: log/pencil roll, egg roll and forward roll. Follow the link to see examples of these. Always remember to tuck your chin right down to your chest when doing a forward roll so only the back of your head touches the ground, the top of your head should not touch the ground. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSsCIEs17D8 Encourage your child to put a short sequence together, it should include 2 rolls, a balance and another way to travel. Examples of balances- one foot, shoulder stand, bridge, crab, hands and knees, bottom, elbows and knees, one hand and one foot. Examples of travelling- tip toeing, jumping, sliding, stepping, twirling The clip below shows an example of a gymnastic sequence, it’s a little more advanced but will give the children some ideas and inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FudfJp8BEh0
