RME/Science/Technology- L.I I understand the important role insects have in the life cycle of plants.Following on from last week’s work I thought you might like to try your hand at flying the Space X Dragon spaceship and docking it with the International Space Station with the simulator from Space. https://iss-sim.spacex.com/ (it’s not as easy as it looks!)

Although Earth day was a couple of weeks ago, I would like you to look at this activity. This activity covers a very important part of a plant/tree’s life cycle. Having a wormery or a compost heap in the school playground may be something worth thinking about when we return to school after the summer. It is a great way to use waste food! Try using what you have around the house, not all of us will have the wood they suggest, I’m going to use tightly rolled paper. When trying to fly your kite REMEMBER to follow the safety advice. Now all we need is a windy day!

P3 Artists ‘Black and White’

Lots of artists like to work in black in white. Think of as many things or creatures/ animals as you can that are black and white!

1. Listen to our new song; ‘Black And White.’

2. Now listen again; and try to follow the words of the song as you listen, (words below).3. Practise singing along with the song. Be careful to wait for the silences, (musical rests) which happen before the

words ‘the perfect match’ and ‘dark and light.’

4. Once you think that you can sing the song and remember the tune, you can try to add a simple rhythm accompaniment to the chorus. Practise this rhythm (tea, tea, tea, rest). (Crotchet, crotchet, crotchet, rest.) Remember to hit your imaginary surface on the rest! There are 8 bars of music to the chorus, so you will have this

pattern to play 8 times! Choose a sound that you have available to use as your accompaniment. Eg. an empty plant pot, a plastic box, wooden spoons…you decide!

5. Once you can play your accompaniment with the music, try to sing and play at the same time!

6. Listen to this short poem ‘Dark and Light’. You will find the words below.

7. Now listen to the poem with its ‘backing track.’

8. Listen to how the reader of the poem, and the backing track, gradually get louder crescendo – musical word and gradually get quieter diminuendo – musical word.

9. It’s now your turn to see if you can add your own ideas / sound effects to play while the poem and backing track are performed. Eg sunlight….. can you think of glistening, tinkly sounds?.... starting quietly and getting louder…..mountain lakes …. Watery drops of sound? Then get quieter, eerie sounds, night time sounds..... and end with silence..... there are no right or wrong sound choices. it's your ideas, your thoughts and choices. Experiment using objects …… and….. don’t forget that you can use your voice too for sound effects!!
