PRINCIPAL’S DESK:
For the safety of our students parents/carers are once again requested to ensure that students do not
arrive early or stay late after school unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-
arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice). I have noted quite a few students arriving before
8.45am unsupervised. What will it take for our parents to stop this practice – hopefully not a serious
injury!
PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Time is running out to book your interview. There are still time slots available to discuss your child’s
progress so far in 2018.
Parent/Teacher interviews are on Tuesday 26th June and Wednesday 27th June so log into Xuno and
book your time online.
All June reports will be available to view and download from Xuno on Monday 25th June at 9.00am.
If you are having trouble accessing the portal, please contact Mr Crilly at school straight away.
2019 PREP ENROLMENTS
Applications for Prep 2019 have now closed. Once again we have far more applications than we have
places available for families who are out of our zone. Families will be informed next week via letter if
they have a place at Templeton for 2019.
INTRODUCING THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD AT TEMPLETON
I am pleased to announce that we will be introducing the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Templeton next
term. Year five and six students now have the opportunity to participate in this world renowned
program of discovery and adventure.
Modelled on the international framework of The Duke of Ed, The Compass Award is designed to develop
goal setting and life skills to enhance the development of the individual child for young people aged 10
to 14. The program fosters positive attitudes to learning whilst building an environment for positive
engagement and interaction between young people, schools and family members.
The Duke of Ed - Compass Award is structured over four progressive levels. To achieve each level, young
people create a unique program of activities over a set length of time across four Sections:
Award Sections: Volunteering, Hobbies / Skill, Physical Activity and Exploration
By giving participants the opportunity to try new things and learn new skills, they develop initiative and
commitment, and in the process become more responsible, motivated and inspired young people.
PRINCIPAL’S DESK
The program is both fun and challenging, and introduces the framework of The Duke of Ed at an early
age. By taking the lead in setting goals in activities that interest them, young people take the initiative,
ownership and engage in their formal and informal education.
All our Year five and six students have attended an information session and are in the process of signing
up to take on the Award. Miss McCasker, Miss Jenkinson and Mrs Boag will be coordinating the program
at Templeton and I look forward to sharing with our community through the newsletter and at
assemblies
the many great activities and adventures our students will participate in.
YEAR 6 PRODUCTION: Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st June at Forest Hill Secondary College
Next week our community eagerly awaits opening night of this year’s production; Porridge. I take this
opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of the students, staff, and parents involved for their efforts
throughout Semester one. The rehearsals during lunch times and the time commitment required to bring
this production to the stage from these people was, and continues to be extraordinary!
THIS WEEK’S CLASSROOM VISIT
This week I visited the Preps again as they were getting their hands dirty potting
plants. The focus was on teaching our students how to care for plants and each
child was to be responsible for looking after their own plant at home. A perfect
way to teach the Templeton value …. Responsibility!
Have a great weekend with your family and friends.

ZONAL CHESS TOURNAMENT
On Tuesday 12th June, sixteen of Templeton’s best chess players ventured to The
Knox School to compete against over 100 other players. The team consisted of
students from Grades Three to Six.
During the day our chess coach Wayne Guy, stopped by to see the students and give
them some important coaching tips. The children not only demonstrated outstanding focus and
discipline but their positive sportsmanship was a credit to our school.
Templeton finished in 1st place overall, which secures our place in the State Chess Finals to be held in
Term 4. Our team completed the day with a high score of 24 points, 2.5 points clear of our nearest rival.
Special mention must go to Ian Li of 3M who was awarded with the individual trophy, Star of the
Tournament for scoring the most points on the day, winning 6 out of his 7 matches. Congratulations to
Ryan Chan, Daniel Lin and Leo Wang who also scored 6 points each towards our total score.
Overall, 14 members of our team have qualified to progress to the State Finals – An outstanding effort!
