October 28, 2018 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear parishioners:
Thursday, Nov. 1 is a holyday of obligation, the Feast of All the Saints.
Anticipated mass will be in Spanish, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. Masses on
Thursday: 8:30 a.m. (School mass) and 6 p.m. English/parish.
Nov. 21 is the Feast of the Presentation of Our lady, Mass is at 8 a.m. but
we will have a celebration on Sunday Nov. 18 after the morning masses
in the gym.
Classes for sacraments are underway. All parents are asked to attend a
Sunday morning class at 9:40. The materials in English and Spanish are
posted each week on the parish web site: presentationdenver.org. We
have a Confirmation project for the older students. We will explain it
shortly.
All Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion need to attend a two hr. workshop at the John Paull II Center Room 123, 1300 So. Steele on Sat. Oct 27
th from 9 to 11 a.m. You will receive a letter of appointment from
the Archbishop for a 4 yr period beginning the First Sunday of Advent.
Families asking for infant baptism must make sure that godparents (padrinos) are married in the church and are confirmed. Parents must be registered in the parish. Call Deacon Pablo for preparation class. We will run one per month on the second Monday evening 6 p.m. Spanish; 7:30 p.m. in English. Call the parish office: 303-534-4882 x117 to register. Marriage preparation: please see us 8 months before your marriage.
Quinceaneras celebrations will be scheduled through the parish only. The girl and her escorts must be baptized and confirmed to do these celebrations. No exceptions!! They also need to take a 4 class workshop at St. Joseph Church, located at 6th and Galapago offered by Endow. The Thanksgiving food drive is underway! Help us replenish our food bank. Canned and dry food only!!! Congratulations! We earned almost $300 this month from the grocery cards. Lets double that is November! If every family (using the reloadable $10 gift card that you purchase from Presentation) bought $50 worth of groceries at King Soopers we would make almost $2000. Also remember that practicing Catholics are pro-life. The seamless garment of life is from the moment of Conception to natural death. Join Formed.org. You can register on our parish website. The books and films are free to all parishioners.
God bless you and your Families this fall

Early Church Fathers and Abortion
One of the arguments in Roe v Wade court was: “It perhaps is not generally appreciated that the restrictive criminal abortion laws ...are not of ancient or even of common law origin." This is misleading. Consider the following teachings by early Church Fathers. The first passage comes from the Didache (Greek for “teaching”), which is usually dated as early as the end of the first century: “…you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is begotten” (chapter 2). This statement is as clear as it gets. The second passage is from St. Barnabas from the early second century: “You shall love your neighbour more than your own soul. You shall not slay the child by procuring abortion; nor, again, shall you destroy it after it is born” (Chapter 19). St. Basil the Great (c.330-379): “Women also who administer drugs to cause abortion, as well as those who take poisons to destroy unborn children, are murderesses” (Letter 188, to Amphilochius concerning the canons, section 8). Notice here how St. Basil is not making any distinctions about what stage in the pregnancy is okay to administer drugs to cause abortion. Nowhere in these quotes is there a distinction being made between any "stages" of life. For the Fathers, abortion is unequivocal taking of life.

Voting with a Clear Conscience
Since Roe v. Wade in 1973, it has possibly never been more important to support pro-life politicians as it is at the present time. The pro-life movement has recently gained considerable momentum. There has been numerous pro-life initiatives in Congress, such as the suspension of the dangerous RU-486 abortion drug, the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act, putting an end to taxpayer support of Planned Parenthood, protecting babies who survive abortions and granting a woman's right to view her ultrasound prior to having an abortion.
Election Day is Tuesday, November x. Our loyalty to Jesus Christ should be stronger than our loyalty to any political party. Life is the most precious gift that God gives us and so a politician's position on abortion is the most important issue and outweighs all others.
Please vote with a clear conscience for LIFE and having done so, trust the Lord to bring about the victory for a Culture of Life!
