I would just like to acknowledge and say a huge thank-you to all of our parents and/or caregivers for the work they have been doing to make the transition to Our Classroom on the Computer such a success! The amount of videos, pictures, voice recordings and comments have been incredible! It has been a pleasure learning and working with all of you every day. Being able to hear and see the kids learning, exploring and having fun brings an instant smile to my face. THANK-YOU!!! I would also like to thank all of our parents and/or caregivers for taking the time, just prior to the changes, to come out to support and celebrate our students during Student-Led Conferences on March 12th and 13th. It was wonderful to see the excitement of the children as they shared their learning success and discoveries with all of you! My fingers are crossed, in hopes of returning back to the classroom soon, but in the meantime, please continue to take care of yourselves and I will see you on SeeSaw! Sincerely, Ms. D

Washing hands are important because we all know that a

virus is spread out everywhere in the world. If we wash

our hands, before eating or touching something else it will

kill the germs from our hands. My parents always suggest

to me about washing your hands. Stay at your home and

keep distance from each other.

This month, we have been working on Seesaw! Thank you to all the families who have been connecting daily! We have been working on developing a virtual routine of calendar, place value, number of the day and weather announcements. We have also worked on a Science Animal Research Project and are learning new reading and writing strategies! It has been very nice to see families work together and send in fabulous videos, writing samples and photos of student work! Thank you for your support in getting your students engaged online! Washing hands are important because our hands contain germs, if you touch your face or eating food with your hands, you may sick if you not wash your hands. But if you wash your hands every 15 minutes then you are free from germs. My parents always ask me to wash your hands and stay at home because we all know that a virus is spread out in the whole world, so you can protect your self by washing your hands. In the school, my teacher always take care of all students that, all students must wash their hands with soap because if we are healthy, then we study hard and pass all the classes with good marks. - Sarabnoor

Grade 1 and 2 News by Mrs. Taylor

It was great to see you at Student Led Conferences in March. Students worked very hard to prepare their portfolios and they loved sharing all their work and the activity centres with you. They were so proud to share what they had learned and they really enjoyed getting a piece of plasticine to float. It seems so long ago and so much has happened since that time.

Well our online learning has been running for a week now and we have all learned so much. It has been an incredible learning experience for all of us in such a short time! Hope you are adjusting to our new learning and teaching style and are enjoying doing the many activities that are being suggested online. I have really appreciated all your written comments online and our chats on the phone have been very helpful and useful too. Please continue to contact me online if you have any concerns.

Please remember to do DreamBox and Raz-Kids every day. Students have been learning a lot. They have had a lot of fun recording their thoughts, writing and illustrating their ideas, dancing, singing and participating in many activities. Keep having fun and learning lots along the way.

Hope you had a fun time with your family during Spring Break! Happy learning!

How the small cat got the reflection of a tiger One day a small little cat was going on a walk but he was sad because all of the big cats teased him on how he was so small and weak. The other cats tried to cheer him up but it didn't work. The small cat then ventured for some more friends but they also didn't like him because he was little and weak. He was pretty thirsty so he went to go look in search for water. A few minutes later he found a puddle of water to drink from just before he had a lick he stared at his reflection . He saw himself as a tiger! at first he was pretty scared but then he thought he was pretty cool and it also gave him courage. He went back to the other cats. The big cats surrounded him and tried to tease him again but the small cat was smart. The small cat grabbed water and spilled it on the floor and then he told the big cats to look down and they did. When they did they saw a white tiger then they jumped up and down screaming hysterically. They couldn't believe how the small cat got a reflection of a tiger. The small cat then continued to find friends and did. The small cat had a body of a kitten and a soul of a tiger. - Rhinoa

In March, our class fever continued as students showed more improvement in setting SMART goals and working toward them both in class and for after school homework activities. We have completed our two big projects, which are our Social Studies Diorama of the 6 Aboriginal Culture Areas and our Science Fair Project. Tied in with the Science Fair Project was our Measurement Unit in Math. Students used manipulative to make sense of and measure the Mass, Volume and Capacity of objects. They also calculated elapsed time. Creating and interpreting graphs on Google Docs to show and analyze students’ data from their experiment was another application of the Math concepts learned. We would like to thank all the parents for celebrating student success with us during the Student Led Conference. We also would like to thank the parents for supporting their children in continuing their learning from home during the class suspension. Students in our class are connected and engaged in responding to the homework assigned online.

How to Avoid Coronavirus There are some ways to avoid coronavirus. Try to avoid hand shaking. You can get coronavirus from being close to someone who has the virus. Coronavirus germs can stay on your hands or your clothes. Symptoms of Coronavirus The symptoms of coronavirus mean that you might cough, you might have a fever, and you may have trouble breathing. Recommendations If you think that have some sort of illness, you should isolate yourself so you can’t spread this terrible disease. If you think you are sick, you should go for a checkup

Dear Prairie Rose

Today I will be writing a letter on Covid-19, specifically on how to avoid it. Covid-19 started in December of 2019. This virus started in Wuhan, a city in China, and has grown throughout the world.

Here’s one way to avoid Covid-19: you must make sure to wash your hands. Why? Well, washing your hands will kill all the bacteria and germs on your hands, which would help your chances of not getting sick. Make sure to wash your hands before you eat, after you eat, and after you do your business in the washrooms. Washing your hands is probably the best way to stay clean and to kill bacteria and germs.

Another way to avoid this virus is to be healthy. Being healthy is sometimes boring I know but doing this will also help your chances of not getting this virus. By being healthy I mean to eat your vegetables and fruits, drink water, wash your hands, and stay away 1-2 metres from people even if they are not sick.

And lastly is the way that everyone is mostly doing right is being stuck in your house/being quarantined. It seems like that's what we have to do nowadays. Just stay in your house and be healthy until you run out of supplies and have to travel to get more.

That is how I am avoiding this virus and other people I am pretty sure. I hope you enjoyed

Nature Nature is pure, Nature is natural, Nature is kind, Nature is beautiful, Nature is free, Nature is simple, Nature is healthy Nature can help us, The lives of you and me. - Ishnoor To Prairie Rose I want to write about why washing our hands is very important. It is important because we don't want to get sick. We can get sick from germs on our hands or germs on objects and things that we use everyday. The best way to stay healthy is to follow hand washing instructions. 1. Rinse hands with warm water and soap. 2. Count ABC's twice while washing your hands and making lots of soapy bubbles. 3. Wash the palm of your hands and fingers, then between fingers and wash your thumbs...don't forget the top of your hands too! 4. Rinse the bubbles away with warm water. 5. Dry hands with paper towel. 6. Don't touch the door handles with clean hands when leaving the bathroom. It's a good idea to use your paper towel before throwing it out or else use your sleeve. Always wash your hands after going to the washroom, before eating, and when you blow your nose because you have germs from being sick. If you can't go to the washroom to wash your hands then hand sanitizer is the next best thing! Unless your hands are gross with chunks of food or dirt. Another tip to keep your hands germ free is to cough or sneeze into your elbow. - Owen Don't know what to do during School Break? There's always a whole load of Ideas just sun-tanning on the beach on its vacation! You just got to think fully until the ideas pop out! There are many things to do when you are bored. Just like these: You can do some School Work Activities! To not let your learning go down the waterfall, you just got to keep on learning even if you're on a vacation! You can do some School Work like answering Printed out Math questions and English questions. You can also do as well some Reading, and Writing! Or going on Dreambox, And Raz Kids! Once your head is filled with learning and need a break from it, your body needs to get stronger! You can do some exercising! Just do light ones! Like Jogging or Running in place, Jumping Jacks, Push ups, or you can play your favorite Sports! If you have a Treadmill, that's awesome! Use that to work on your stamina! You can also do some things you love to do! Your favorite hobbies! Do you have any? Like cooking and baking, watching movies, reading books, making arts and crafts, sleeping, playing games, and doing chores! I like to read and write! What's your favorite hobby? Do you have different hobbies other than these? Do those instead! Hope I gave you some ideas! - Princess Dela Cruz

Physical Education News by Mr. Smoke:

Staying Active - Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

Throughout our shorten month of March, Prairie Rose students began to learn new movements and sports. Our grade 1-2 students focused on rolling and spatial awareness while attempting various types activities with numerous styles of balls. Students continue to practice stepping with the opposite foot, having a backswing and follow-through, and keeping their eyes on the target.

*While at home these next couple weeks try to set up targets and have our students try to knock them down. Make it more difficult by backing up, putting objects in the way or having a goalie protect the object!*

Grade. 3-6 students took the next step in the movement repertoire by learning the game of handball. Many off the movements in handball relate to skills we have been practicing earlier in the year and transition into future skills that will learn.

*While at home these next couple weeks try playing catch (how many can you do in a row without dropping it) with our students. Create mini nets and try to either throw or kick a ball past the goalie. Create obstacle courses that they have to bounce, dribble, or run through with or without a ball.*

Music News by Ms. Porco

Welcome April and welcome back the sun and warming temperatures. Looking back during March the music room was very busy, I am proud to announce that at the 102nd Winnipeg Music Festival both the Primary and Intermediate choirs did very well receiving a bronze and silver medal. All of our hard work paid off and the choirs did Prairie Rose very proud. Looking forward into April each grade grouping will be working on different concepts. In rooms 111, 116, 208, 209, and 215 we are continuing to work on basic rhythms through singing, playing and moving with a special focus on songs about spring. In rooms 212 and 214 we are continuing to work on learning how to read and follow music by playing the recorder so far we have learnt how to play Hot Cross Buns, Au Clair Du Lune, and Who has see the wind. In rooms 211, P1, and P2 we are playing the recorder at a more complicated level with songs that have up to 8 notes in them! We are also taking a look at world music from Brazil, India, China, Mexico, Jamaica, Philippines, South Africa, and Canada. Happy spring, keep on singing!
