*Student iPad Deployment Fall, 2014

Students who receive iPads will go through the following stations to get acclimated to their iPad

① iPad Checkout in TipWeb (checked out like a text book) 

② iPad Configuring - All students must input an Apple ID

③ Labeling Cases and Power Cables

④ Customizing Stations - Take first photo for camera roll

*Student will set picture as welcome page

*Set Restrictions

*Set Screen Passcode

⑤ Downloading of Apps to help them get started using their device

⑥ Digital Citizenship/AUP review

* To prepare for student deployment, YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITIY TO…

*Decide on and set up an Apple ID. There are two choices:

① Use your own Apple ID for your child.

② Create a new Apple ID for your child that is not linked to a credit card. RECOMMENDED

*Decide on the payment option, pay online and electronically sign the 1 to X user agreement.

*Ask questions about 1 to X implementation.

*WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IPAD

COVERAGE

* STUDENTS MUST BE USING AN IPAD COVER THAT MEETS THE DISTRICT IPAD COVER GUIDELINES. IF STUDENT’S CHANGE THE ISSUED COVER AND THE IPAD IS DAMAGED, IT WILL VOID THE WARRANTY.

* ESTIMATED COST OF CRACKED SCREEN REPAIR -$100 – CRACKED SCREEN

$600 – UNREPAIRABLE

* DISTRICT USES DFW REPAIR – OPTION 1 - CRACKED SCREENS ARE REPAIRED ON CAMPUS USUALLY WITHIN 1 DAY.

* NOT COVERED UNDER OPTION 1, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING IT REPAIRED)

* IF IT IS UNREPAIRABLE –IF COVERED UNDER OPTION 1 – IPAD IS SENT BACK TO APPLE AND THEY REPLACE IT WITH IN A WEEK

* NOT COVERED UNDER OPTION 1, PARENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE

* Parents will now be charged an additional $40 for damaged iPads taken out of the original case

* Will you have More than one Child at Prairie Trail?

Parents who will have more than one child in 4th or 5th grade child at Prairie Trail have three choices:

*Use your own Apple ID for all children.

*Create a single Apple ID for all children.

*Create a different Apple ID for each child.

*Step 1 – Creating a Google Email Account -You will need an email account to set up an Apple ID or use the go account in Skyward

*Step 2 – Creating an Apple ID – Students will need an Apple ID when they first register their iPad during deployment.

*Bring iPad to school daily fully charged

*Keep the iPad in it’s original case

*Campus suggests that the background remains student picture taken at deployment

*Keep iPad in a safe place when not in use

*Electronic communication must be school related

*Inappropriate Content

*Parents should set expectations for appropriate apps, content, music and videos

*Parents are encouraged to setup and manage Parental Controls on student device

*Consequences will be issued following the discipline matrix for inappropriate content

*Apps rated 12+ are not allowed on student devices

*Monday Teacher Reviews

*Teachers will randomly review iPad content on Monday mornings.

*Teachers will not delete student content, however students will be asked to take their iPad home and backup media to make room for instructional content

*Teachers will review apps are appropriate following 1:X guidelines; students will be asked to delete apps/media not following 1:X agreement

*Deleting Files/Apps and

Managing Space

*Do not delete any Apps, folders, or files that you did not create or that you do not recognize. Please check with your child’s teacher.

*Educational content must be prioritized when managing space on the LISD device. Students may be asked to remove non-educational files, apps, videos, or pictures to maintain space for educational content.

*Illegal downloading and distribution of copyrighted works are serious offenses that carry with them the risk of substantial monetary damages and in some cases criminal prosecution. Copyright infringement also violates the District’s Internet Service Provider’s terms of service and could lead to limitation or suspension of the District’s Internet service.

*Purchased, legal personal media is allowed on the device for after school use.
