EnglishWe will bring Shakespeare to life and introduce Year 3 to the famous love story, Romeo and Juliet, using a delightful text written by Lois Burdett which makes the play fun and accessible. We will start by looking at descriptions of settings and characters using lots of powerful vocabulary.
In our spelling, grammar and punctuation lessons we will focus on punctuating speech, noun phrases and using the correct tense . In addition, our weekly comprehension and grammar lessons will help enhance our writing and enable us to use a wider variety of vocabulary.
MathematicsDuring this half term in Year 3 we will revise addition and subtraction, then concentrate on multiplication and division.
Throughout our lessons we will be using a variety of hands-on challenges and resources to help improve our problem solving and to develop our understanding of mathematical concepts.
We will also be starting a new fun multiplication table challenge!
ScienceOur topic this half term is Animals including Humans.
Year 3 will start the term by identifying that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition, and that they cannot make their own food; they get nutrition from what they eat.They will use this knowledge to become personal trainers for clients in need of expert health, dietary and training advice. They will develop specialised knowledge, skills and understanding in nutrition, muscles, bones and joints and conduct theirown research in order to answer client’s questions. They will make a presentation tailored to their client’s needs that will set them on the road to a healthier life style.
Computing
• This half term we will focus on creating a presentation about Roald Dahl as well as developing our research skills.
• Identify the names of a range of input devices and output devices e.g. mouse, keyboard, monitor, touch screen and printer.
• Next we will focus on algorithms and looking at why logic is important in programming.
Geography – Modern Europe
• We will develop an understanding of the amazing physical and human geography of Modern Europe. Year 3 will create a map of Europe and personalise a passport recording our achievements. We will investigate key European physical features, research a European capital city for a display and examine the weather from each of Europe’s climate zones before deciding what to pack for our travels!
RE: In RE we will explore the impact Hindu beliefs have on the life of a child, the 5 daily duties; Hindu family life and worship in the home and we will explore the consequences of actions and choices.
Music: Mr Higgins will continue to develop Year 3’s sense of rhythm by introducing the class to drumming.
PHSE : Year 3 will discuss and understand the terms ‘rights’ and ‘responsibilities’. And we will prepare and agree to a class charter that reflects my rights and responsibilities as a pupil.
French: Through a range of different fun activities we will be learning the names of the different colours.
DT : Year 3 will investigate, design and make a healthy lunch.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday
Please ensure your children are not wearing earrings on these days
and label all children’s clothing. All children are expected take part in PE
unless they have a note from you.
HomeworkMultiplication tables: Please practise the tables with your child on a regular basis. The aim is for them to become part of your child’s memory and ready for use whenever they need them. They will be tested every Friday and if they are confident will be tested again by Miss Williams which could result in a certificate awarded in the next whole school assembly.
Reading: Please listen to your child read every day and record any comments in their Reading Diary.
In addition to the above your child should choose one activity each week from this half term’s homework grid.
