Thirty-three percent of American fourth graders read below the "basic" level on the National Assessment of Educational Progress reading test. Lifespan Literacy Center “Reading -- one child at a time!”

If you are interested in signing up a child for tutoring or being a tutor or have any questions, contact Jolene Reed, Ph.D., Coordinator of Lifespan Literacy Center, at [email protected]

We work with public and private schools, home school students, church schools, and any child struggling with reading, writing, and/or spelling.

Lifespan Literacy Tutors work in small groups with students focusing on:

• Print awareness • The sounds of speech • Phonemic awareness • Phonics • Informal Assessments • Fluency • Vocabulary • Spelling • Writing • Comprehension

LLC is funded by grant money from Entergy Corporation and a generous donation from Dr. Jack Staggs and is supported by the Huntsville Area Literacy Council,

the Huntsville Public Library, Friends of the Library, Region VI, and Sam Houston State University.

After School Sessions January 29 – March 5

Tuesday’s from 4:30-5:30

One day per week

The Lifespan Literacy Center provides tutoring to students who are challenged by literacy. It has been proven the earlier we begin working with readers, the better their success in the classroom. There is no cost.
