College interviews will usually start to take place November – all interviews take place at the colleges
If students need to miss school…NOT A WHOLE DAY OFF SCHOOL!

• During Year 10 students were asked to complete a Curriculum Vitae (CV) during tutorial. By the end of Year 11, they should have amended ready to enter the World of Work.
• This year they will be expected to complete a Personal Statement by October half term. We will begin this process in the next two weeks.
• It is important that students think about ways of improving their CV and personal statement. Part time jobs, volunteering, supporting their local community.
• These are all ways of making themselves stand out against growing competition.

Applied General: Level 3 courses
BTEC/UAL/CACHE/NCFE/CamTech/WJEC
• Level 3 Applied Generals are a 2 year course
• They can be a single/double/triple option
• Some colleges can mix them with A levels
• Assessed by written exam/course work/practical
• Your GCSE grades will determine which subjects you can take and what will be offered

T Levels: Level 3 Qualification
•2 year technical qualification•Equivalent to 3 A levels (stand alone course)
•900 hours study per academic year (includes 45 days of industry placement per year)
•Pass or Fail grading system•Education & Childcare, Construction Design, Digital (more available in the future)

• Any BTECs will have to be a Merit/Distinction grade and you will still need at least 4 GCSEs at 4 grade or above including maths and English

A job: • At least 30 hours a week• Minimum wage £3.90/hr (from 1st April ’19) (usually more)
• Levels 1 – 6 • 12 – 18 months to complete Levels 1-2• 18 – 24 months to complete Level 3• 3-5 years to complete Levels 4-6.
Training:• Recognised industry based training provided by an
accredited training provider either at college, university or all on the job site.

Use your contacts, family & friends and ask for work
Contact local employers directly, ask for work experience/weekend work now with the chance for an apprenticeship after year 11
Go directly to the larger companies you want to work and apply via their websites
(Applications can start from October 2018)

Apprenticeship stats:
Government records show 285,000 companies across the UK employed an apprentice during academic year 2018/19
The largest apprenticeship sectors: Health, public services and care. Business and Law. Engineering and Manufacturing. Retail and Commercial.
The proportion of Advanced and Higher education apprenticeships are steadily increasing whilst the number of Intermediate apprenticeships, whilst still the largest area, is also the fastest declining level of apprenticeship

£4.35 per hour for 16-17 year olds
£6.15 per hour for 18-20 year olds £7.70 per hour for workers aged 21-24
£8.21 per hour for 25+ year olds
