START UP

AFTER CONNECTING, PNMSj MAIN WINDOW WILL BE DISPLAYED. IN CASE OF LAN /ETHERNET CONNECTION, THE PNMS WILL AUTOMATICALLY START POLLING THE CONFIGURED NEs.

DOUBLE CLICK ON THE PNMS SHORTCUT ICON ON THE DESKTOP OR CLICK ON START>>PROGRAM>>PNMS>>PNMS

ENTER THE USER NAME AND PASSWORD TO LOGIN

CONNECT THE PNMS PC TO THE ROOT NE OR CPM NE USING LAN CABLE OR SERIAL CABLE

IF THE USER NAME OR PASSWORD IS WRONG PNMSj ERROR MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED. IF THE WRONG PASSWORD WAS ENTERED THREE TIMES USER WILL BE BLOCKED FORM LOGIN.

THE MAP VIEW PROVIDES A TOPOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF THE NETWORK ELEMENTS IN THE USER DEFINED GROUPS. WHEN THE GROUP IS SELECTED IN THE HIERARCHICAL VIEW THE NETWORK ELEMENTS AND GROUPS BELONGING TO THAT GROUP IS SHOWN IN THE MAP VIEW. THE USER CAN PLACE THE NE AND GROUP ICONS ON A BACK GROUND MAP.

TOOL BAR /ALARM SUMMARY

Buzzer Stop icon. The Alarm buzzer becomes active and sounds to notify the occurrence of alarm in the network, when the alarm buzzer function is activated from the system menu. The alarm buzzer function default setting is disabled.

Filter selection icon. This icon is used to select the registered filter. The filters registered by logging user or a member of the same group will be displayed in the list and can be selected.

Filter setting icon. This icon is used to set the filter setting. This function can be called from each screen such as Active Alarm, Alarm History, Event Log History and NE List

Search icon. This icon is used to search NEs . The function is to search and list NEs conditional to NE Name, NE Type, Opposite NE Name and IP Address.

Active Alarm icon. This icon opens the Active Alarm list window

Network Element List icon. This icon is used to view a list of monitored NEs

Active Alarm information of all managed NE in the network are displayed according to the category of severity in the area under the tool bar. The format is the same as the Alarm Information View (Not acknowledged count / Total count)

Critical (CRI). The most important alarms

Major (MAJ). The important alarms

Warning (WRN). Warning Alarms

LOGOUT /EXITSelect LOGOUT from the System Menu

Click OK when prompted to logout. PNMS window will close and PNMS login window appears

Click Cancel when prompted to cancel logging out. or

EXIT

Exit function shutdown the PNMS application program. When a PNMS User with valid privilege to exit login, this menu item will be active.

Click Cancel when prompted to cancel logging out.

or

Select EXIT from the System Menu.

Click OK when prompted to shutdown. PNMS window will close and PNMS program shutdown.

Enter the Old Password in the Old password field

Click Cancel before clicking OK to exit without saving the new password

Password for each user is assigned when the user is added to the user group. This password can be changed by the user from this menu

Enter the New Password in the new password field

Re enter the New Password in the Confirm new password field

Click OK to change the password and close the window

When wrong password is entered in the Old Password field, message below appears. Click OK and enter the correct Old Password

When the entered new password and the confirm new password are different this message appears. Click OK and enter the correct password .

PERIODIC POLLING: – Set the frequency of polling from the polling start time in seconds , hours or days. PNMS default is 60 sec.

If the entered value is out of range or wrong format this warning appears. enter the correct format and value

Click the drop down arrow and select seconds (1 ~ 1800 sec) or hours (1 ~12 hours) or days (1 ~ 7 days)

At the set time PNMS will automatically set the Date/Time in the connected NEs.

Enter the start time in the User defined start time field. (hh:mm)

In the Periodic setting, select the frequency of date/ Time setting from PNMS in hours or days..

If in hours (1 to 12 hours), if in days (1 to 7 ) days

In Time offset setting, you may change this value if NE time delay is considerable. Normally setting it to zero is ok.

Note: This setting does not apply to iPASOLINK

EVENT LOG

When a alarm, status , control event occurs in the network, that information is automatically sent to the PNMS and can be seen from the event log window in real time.

Click OK or Apply to activate the new setting

Select the Save Automatically check box to save the received event log items automatically.

If save automatically check box is selected, enter for how long the event log history data to be stored in the PNMS PC. Enter the duration in the Store max field (range is 1 ~ 90 days)

(if this is not set event log history is not available in the PNMS)

PNMS views show the icons according to severity status of the NE. the color coding of different severities can be changed from this properties setting.

Click apply to activate the new setting

There are two color coding, Status color coding for the icons displayed on different PNMS views and the font color coding displayed in the event Log window for each event.

Select Status or Log from the Select Type drop down list.

Color coding for the selected type will be shown below.

Click on the [….] Browse button to open the color pallet for the selected severity Status or Log item and change the color. Background or font color.

Click OK or Apply to activate and apply the new color code.

Event log font color coding applies to Alarm History, Event Log, Event Log History.

PNMS PROPERTIES - BACKUPIN THE PNMS PROPERTIES WINDOW. SELECT BACKUP

PNMS Support automatic and manual backup. Configuration, Event log and Performance Monitor files are backed up. Properties of the Backup function is set from here.

Automatic backup: To enable automatic backup function select the Enable backup automatically check box.

Next select when you want the automatic backup to occur for the select file type. Select the radio button Every day. Backup will be carried out once a day at a User defined start time

Select the radio button every week. Backup will be carried out once a week at a User defined day of the week, selected the day of the week from the drop down list.

Enter the start time for automatic backup in the User defined start time field. (HH: 0 ~ 23) and (mm: 00 ~ 59)

Enter the destination where the automatic backup file should be saved in the Set to the directory of PNMS server.

Click OK or Apply to activate the Backup Properties

AUTO-EXECUTE PROGRAM: WHEN BACKUP FILE HAS BEEN COLLECTED, A BATCH FILE, SCRIPT OR SHELL CAN BE RUN BY PLACING HERE THE LOCATION OF THE COMMAND FILE. (I.E. A BATCH FILE CAN BE CREATED TO SAVE THE FILE ANOTHER LOCATION).

Frequency Setting: you can select frequency of back up for the Config Files and the Log/PMON/Inventory files by selecting from the drop down menu.

PNMS PROPERTIES – PNMSj MANAGEMENT

PNMS Management is used to set the hardware threshold settings to monitor the hardware performance of the server.

PNMSj Management

To enable self-check of PNMSj server and auto update of hardware monitoring, select Enable PNMSj Management polling

When PNMSj Management polling is enabled, select the frequency of the Periodic PNMS Management Polling. Select from Seconds (10 – 60 seconds) or Hours (1 – 24 hours).

Set the Thresholds for the alarms to occur and recover for the HDD, CPU and Memory.

Note: The threshold is valid only on the PNMS Management window. It is not reflected on Event Log/Active Alarm/ Alarm history.

PNMSj Management

System Management shows the hardware monitoring status of the PNMSj server. When the threshold for the Occur value is reached, the item will be shown with background color for the Alarm (Major). When the value goes below the Recover threshold value, the background color will return Normal.

PNMSj Service shows the status of the process in PNMSj. If any abnormality occurs in the process, the following will be executed:

(In case of Foreground Mode)

Occurrence of abnormality in the PNMSj server is reported via a dialog and a message for confirming the auto restart of PNMSj.

(In case of Background Mode)

PNMSj restarts automatically

User can modify the severity setting for each alarm item for each type of equipment. When the degree of severity is changed the Region, Group, NE, icon color is displayed accordingly.

Disconnect Type.- When the NE is disconnected from the PNMS, it shows the status of the icon according to this setting If Status radio button is selected the NE icon is shown in disconnect color. If Alarm radio button is selected and the severity of the disconnect alarm is selected from the drop down menu. The NE when it is disconnected is shown in the selected severity color..

GET ALL DATA & CONNECTION CHECK

Get All Data is used to manually obtain all current status information from the target network element.

When NE icon appears in grey color use this function to get the NE’s status by performing the Get All Data function, the PNMSj will request the target NE to send all current status information to the server so that both will be synchronized.

Connection Check function is used to manually check the connection status of the target network element with the PNMSj. By using this function, the PNMSj will execute a force polling of the target NE instead of waiting for the automatic polling done by PNMSj. Auto polling may sometimes takes time to detect the connection status of the NEs specially in a huge network.

RUN DIAGNOSTICS

Run Diagnostics is used to troubleshoot the cause of failure of connection of the NE with the PNMSj.

Run Diagnostics

Displays the information of the target NE based on the information stored on PNMSj and not on the acquired info from the equipment

Indicate here the number of the packet (1 to 5) that must be sent during SNMP diagnostics. Also set the timeout settings to terminate the test if there is no response. Timeout setting is from 10 to 300 seconds.

This portion shows the result of the diagnostics.

Start Time: Shows the time the test was startedResponse Result: Shows if the target NE responded to the test or notResponse Time (Min/Max): Shows the response speed of the NE to the diagnostic testEquipment Type: Shows the actual equipment type retrieved from the target NE. If this is not matched with the equipment type registered on the PNMSj, the NE will not be connected.

PNMSj (State): Shows if the PNMSj is connected or not to the target NE.PNMSj (IP address): Shows the IP address of the PNMSj server registered in the NE. If this is different from the actual IP address of the PNMSj server, then the target NE cannot be monitored.

Network Element Name: Name assigned to the NE from Netconfigtool or Equipment Setup in Link Summary Window. (display only)

Antenna Direction: NE icons antenna direction can be selected pointing Left or Right. (Available in Group View edit mode)

Management properties allows the NE to be polled (Managed ) or Not polled (Un Managed) the selected NE. This allows the NEs already registered in the PNMS but not yet installed or available in the network, not to be polled thereby minimizing undesirable polls from the PNMS. It is advisable to set NEs that are currently being serviced and therefore offline to unmanaged.
